Zapco Z-OTG-RCA Review: USB-C to RCA Cable with a Built-In DAC

Updated: Oct 7

The Zapco Z-OTG-RCA is a USB-C OTG cable with a DAC built into it: plug it into a phone and the other end gives you a stereo pair of gold-plated RCA plugs, ready for an amplifier's or processor's line inputs. Inside the converter barrel sits a CX31933 DAC rated at 128 dB dynamic range and 0.0003% harmonic distortion, followed by a MAX97220AETE amplifier stage, with an output drive Zapco rates at 3 V into 1 kΩ. Its 2026 Indian MRP of ₹13,990 places it between Zapco's ₹6,990 optical cable and ₹19,990 converter box, and it's meant for systems with RCA inputs but no digital input. See the current offer on our Z-OTG-RCA store page.

Quick take

  • It converts digital to analogue inside the cable, so an amplifier or DSP with RCA inputs can take a phone directly.

  • Its 3 V output into 1 kΩ is a strong line-level signal, which helps when setting amplifier gains.

  • Zapco lists 157 cm of cable; the 2026 catalogue prints 50 cm plus 150 cm.

  • There are no independent reviews yet, and Zapco publishes neither a phone compatibility list nor charging pass-through.

Figures are from Zapco's official Z-OTG-RCA page, our store listing and the 2026 Indian catalogue. The catalogue gives the length as 50 cm plus 150 cm, while Zapco's page and our listing say 157 cm, which we've used. The PCM and DSD decoding figures come from the catalogue and our listing, since Zapco's page doesn't list sample-rate support.

A DAC in a cable: what that means

Many current phones have no headphone socket, so wired audio leaves through the USB-C port as digital data. Something has to turn that data into an analogue signal before a conventional amplifier can use it, and here that job falls to the CX31933 inside the converter barrel. Zapco's figures for it are comfortably beyond what a moving car's background noise will reveal.

Zapco also lists a MAX97220AETE amplifier stage, rated 125 mW into 32 Ω, which is a headphone-style figure; the number that matters in a car is the 3 V into 1 kΩ output drive, a healthy line level. A stronger signal lets you run an amplifier's input gain lower, which generally keeps hiss down, and 3 V sits inside the 1–9 V input range of Zapco's Z-150 AP amplifiers and the 1–5 V range of its DSP-IV processors.

On the catalogue's figures, the DAC decodes PCM up to 32-bit/384 kHz and DSD64–128, so high-resolution files are within its range if your music app can send them over USB.

Which Zapco products it can feed

Zapco doesn't publish a compatibility list, but the requirement is simply a pair of RCA line inputs. Its Z-150.2 AP and Z-150.4 AP amplifiers have them, as do the low-level inputs on the DSP-Z8 IV AT, the ADSP-Z12 IV-10A and the HDSP-Z16 V AD-8A and AD-16A, all rated 1–5 V.

If your processor has an optical input, though, the Z-OTG-OPT is the cheaper partner, and it keeps the signal digital into the DSP, avoiding a conversion to analogue in the cable and another back to digital in the processor. Zapco's HB II processors list an OTG input and Bluetooth of their own, which may make an adapter unnecessary.

Volume, noise and charging

Plugged straight into an amplifier, the phone becomes your only volume control. Set the amplifier's gain with the phone at full volume and a clean test track, so that even full phone volume can't drive the amplifier into clipping. A processor with a dash remote, such as the DSP-IV units, adds a proper master volume between the two.

Analogue signals pick up interference more easily than digital ones, so route the RCA end away from amplifier power cables. With the phone running on its battery or a wireless charger, there's no charger ground to form a loop; Zapco doesn't mention charging pass-through for this cable anyway. Zapco describes the cable only as an audio link and mentions no control or tuning function, so don't expect it to connect a phone or laptop to a DSP for tuning; our guide to why cars need DSP explains what a processor does.

What owners and reviewers say about the Zapco Z-OTG-RCA

Independent reviews of the Z-OTG-RCA are scarce: when we checked in October 2026, we found no owner, forum or press reviews we could verify. The DAC and driver figures above are Zapco's specifications, not independent measurements, and there's no published data on how it behaves with particular phones. If you own one, we'd welcome a note on how it performs in your car.

Z-OTG-RCA vs the Z-OTG-OPT and Z-OTG-BT C

Against the Z-OTG-OPT (₹6,990), the RCA cable costs twice as much and includes the DAC and line driver; the optical cable leaves conversion to the processor, so it only works with a digital input. Against the Z-OTG-BT C (₹19,990), it gives up Bluetooth, the charging-capable OTG input and digital outputs. In return there's no box to mount, Zapco lists no separate power supply, and its 3 V rating is higher on paper than the converter's 1.5 V RMS RCA output, though Zapco doesn't say the two are measured the same way.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the Z-OTG-RCA if your amplifier or processor has RCA inputs but no digital input, your phone is your music source, and you want a strong line-level feed without installing a converter box.

Look elsewhere if your DSP has an optical input, since the Z-OTG-OPT keeps things digital for less; if you want Bluetooth or charging, which point to the Z-OTG-BT C; or if your electronics sit further from the phone than 157 cm allows.

Installation notes for Indian cars

At 157 cm, the cable suits a phone mount near the amplifier or processor, such as a DSP behind the glovebox or under a front seat; in most cars it won't reach the boot from the dashboard. You can extend the RCA run with a separate interconnect, but every extra metre of analogue cable is another chance to pick up noise, so plan where the electronics go with the phone position in mind.

Rough roads are hard on connectors, so support the converter barrel with a clip or cable tie and leave a loop of slack at the phone end so the USB-C plug isn't strained. Keep the cable off the sun-baked dashboard top in summer. VA3 Car Studio offers professional installation in Ghaziabad.

Price and where to buy

The Zapco Z-OTG-RCA carries an MRP of ₹13,990 in the 2026 Indian catalogue. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check today's offer on our Zapco Z-OTG-RCA product page. Every cable we sell is a genuine Zapco product, and Zapco is distributed in India by Supreme Audiotek.

The bottom line

On paper, the Z-OTG-RCA solves a specific problem well: getting a phone without a headphone socket into an amplifier or DSP with only analogue inputs, at a healthy 3 V line level. It costs twice the optical cable, lists no charging or Bluetooth, and has no independent reviews yet. If your system has RCA inputs and no digital one, and you want neither Bluetooth nor charging, it's the Zapco OTG product to choose.

Zapco Z-OTG-RCA FAQ

How long is the Zapco Z-OTG-RCA cable?

Zapco's product page and our listing give 157 cm. The 2026 Indian catalogue prints the length as 50 cm plus 150 cm, so ask us to confirm before you plan a tight route.

Can I plug it straight into an amplifier?

Yes, into any amplifier with RCA inputs. Its 3 V output into 1 kΩ sits within the 1–9 V input range of Zapco's Z-150 AP amplifiers; set the gain with the phone at full volume so the phone can't overdrive it.

Does it play DSD and high-resolution files?

The catalogue and our listing say its CX31933 DAC decodes PCM up to 32-bit/384 kHz and DSD64–128. Zapco's own product page doesn't list sample-rate support, and your music app has to send those formats over USB.
