Alpine iLX-F509E Review: 9-Inch Floating Screen, Wireless CarPlay and Wired Android Auto
Updated: Oct 6
The Alpine iLX-F509E is a media receiver that mounts a 9-inch capacitive touch screen (1280 x 720) in front of a single-DIN chassis, giving cars with a small dash opening a large display. Alpine lists wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, LDAC Bluetooth, HDMI in and out, two camera inputs and three 4 V pre-outs. In India it carries an MRP of ₹89,999, a little below its 11-inch sibling, the iLX-F511E. It suits drivers who live in CarPlay or Android Auto and want a big, bright screen without cutting the dash, plus room to build a proper sound system later. See the current price on our Alpine iLX-F509E product page.

Quick summary
A 9-inch 720p floating screen on a 1-DIN body, with lamination, an anti-glare surface and an automatic dimmer.
Apple CarPlay is wireless; Android Auto is wired through USB, according to Alpine's own specifications.
Serious tuning for a head unit: a 13-band EQ, six-channel time correction, crossovers and three 4 V pre-outs.
Steering-wheel buttons need an optional interface, and the cameras are extra, so budget for both.

The feature list comes from Alpine Asia's iLX-F509E page and Alpine India's spec sheet; the camera, steering and EQ details come from the shared owner's manual. The two product pages list no power output or chassis dimensions, and the part of the manual we could read stops before its specification table, so we don't quote them.
The screen and the floating design
Alpine calls this its single-DIN design for a 9-inch display. The receiver body slides into a 1-DIN space and the screen sits in front of the dash on a mount, so you get a tablet-sized display without a car-specific fascia that can take a 9-inch frame. The manual covers adjusting the display up and down on the iLX-F509E and iLX-F511E, which helps the screen clear the controls beneath it. It doesn't show an adjustment range in the part we could read, so ask us to check it in your car.
The panel is a capacitive 1280 x 720 touch screen with lamination. Alpine's page credits the lamination with a figure of 2.4 times, without saying what was measured or against what, so treat it as marketing. The anti-glare surface and automatic dimmer are the more practical features in Indian conditions. A screen that dims itself at night and resists the midday sun through the windscreen is easier to live with than a brighter one that reflects everything.
CarPlay, Android Auto and connections
This is where buyers need to read carefully. Headlines on Alpine's page can read as if both are wireless, but Alpine's spec sheet lists CarPlay as wireless and Android Auto as wired. The manual confirms Android Auto runs by plugging the phone into the USB connector, so Android users should plan on a cable. The manual also notes that wireless CarPlay is unavailable while the unit's Internet Mode is selected.
Beyond phone mirroring, you get LDAC Bluetooth streaming, two USB inputs and USB playback of FLAC, WAV and common video files, a 3.5 mm AUX input and a GPS antenna input. The HDMI input accepts an external video source, and the HDMI output can feed another screen. The manual also mentions optional HDMI selector support.
Cameras, steering controls and sound tuning
There are two camera inputs. The first is for a reverse camera, and the second can be set to front, side or other, which is handy for parking a large SUV in a tight Indian lane or a crowded mall basement. Both cameras are optional extras.
For steering-wheel buttons, the manual states that an optional steering wheel remote control interface is required. Ask us to check which interface suits your car before you order.
The sound settings go well beyond bass and treble. The manual describes a 13-band EQ from 20 Hz to 40 kHz, time correction from 0 to 20 ms per speaker, high- and low-pass filters with slopes up to 24 dB per octave, and subwoofer level and phase. The three 4 V pre-outs give an external amplifier or DSP a strong, clean signal. Our article on why a DSP matters explains when to go further, for example with an Alpine PXE-R80-8 processor amplifier.
What owners and reviewers say about the Alpine iLX-F509E
When we checked in October 2026, we found no owner reviews, forum reports or independent tests of the iLX-F509E. Alpine's Asian and Indian pages carry feature lists and promotional copy only. We won't fill the gap with guesses about reliability, screen stability on rough roads or software behaviour. If you own one, tell us how it has held up, and we'll add real feedback here as it arrives.
iLX-F509E vs iLX-F511E and Alpine's audio-first units
The Alpine iLX-F511E (₹94,999 MRP) shares the same published feature list, including wireless CarPlay, wired Android Auto, LDAC, HDMI in and out, two camera inputs and three 4 V pre-outs. The difference is an 11-inch screen at the same 1280 x 720 resolution, for ₹5,000 more at MRP. The 9-inch is the safer choice for compact dashboards where a bigger panel would cover vents or switches.
If phone mirroring matters less than sound, Alpine's audio-first media units are a different route. The UTX-A09 PRO (₹75,999 MRP) plays FLAC, WAV and APE up to 24-bit/192 kHz through a small separate controller, with no CarPlay listed. The UTS-A100 (₹48,999 MRP) is a Hi-Res player that feeds a DSP amplifier directly.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy the iLX-F509E if you use an iPhone and want CarPlay without a cable, your dash has a single-DIN or double-DIN opening, and you plan to add an amplifier, DSP or cameras over time.
Think twice if you use Android and specifically want wireless Android Auto, since Alpine lists it as wired. The same applies if your factory screen also controls climate or vehicle settings that a replacement may not carry over, or if you need owner reviews before buying.
Installation notes for Indian cars
If your car has a factory touchscreen built into the dash rather than a DIN slot, fitting the iLX-F509E may need a fascia kit and wiring adapters, and some factory functions may not carry over, so ask us to check your model first. Where there is a DIN opening, the floating screen makes fitting simpler, but confirm it won't block AC vents, the hazard switch or a phone holder, using the up-down adjustment to fine-tune.
Budget for the steering interface, cameras and a USB cable for Android Auto. If you are upgrading speakers too, a coaxial set such as the Alpine BRV-S65 is a sensible first step. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation; ask us about camera and steering-control wiring when you book.
Price and where to buy
The iLX-F509E carries an MRP of ₹89,999. We often sell below MRP, so check the current offer on the iLX-F509E listing. Every unit we sell is a genuine Alpine product.

The bottom line
The iLX-F509E puts a large, laminated 9-inch screen into cars with a small dash opening, and its tuning tools and 4 V pre-outs make it a good base for a serious system. Its weak points are on paper: Android Auto is wired, steering control needs an extra interface, and Alpine's pages don't list its power output. Go in with those facts, and it is a strong choice for iPhone users with a DIN-sized dash.
