Alpine PWE-S800 Review: An 8-Inch Under-Seat Powered Subwoofer With a Wired Controller
Updated: Oct 6
The Alpine PWE-S800 is a super-shallow powered subwoofer box built around an 8-inch (20 cm) dual voice coil woofer, with its amplifier inside an all-aluminium alloy body and a wired controller in the box. Alpine rates the system at 240 W and pitches it at under-seat installation or other small spaces, but it publishes no RMS figure, frequency response or dimensions on the pages we could read. Its India MRP is ₹34,999, the same as the 7 x 7-inch PWE-M770, and far below the SS-SB10 loaded enclosure. It suits drivers who want bass hidden away under a seat and value a controller within reach, provided they check the fit first. You can see the current price on our Alpine PWE-S800 product page.

Quick summary
An 8-inch dual voice coil woofer and built-in amplifier in a super-shallow, all-aluminium alloy box.
A wired controller is included, so bass level can be adjusted from the driver's seat.
Alpine's 240 W rating has no RMS equivalent, so it can't be compared directly with RMS-rated subs.
Alpine's product pages list no dimensions, so ask us to measure the unit against your seat before you buy.

These details come from Alpine Asia's PWE-S800 page and Alpine India's feature page. Neither gives a specification table, and Alpine Australia doesn't list the model, so we have kept the table to what Alpine actually states.
What Alpine tells you, and what it doesn't
It is unusual to review a product with so few published numbers, so it is worth being clear. Alpine describes a 240 W amplifier subwoofer system driving an 8-inch dual voice coil woofer, an all-aluminium alloy body chosen for looks and quality, a wired controller, and a body small enough for under-seat installation. That is everything the two product pages say.
Missing are the figures that normally decide a purchase: continuous (RMS) power, frequency response, sensitivity, and the box's dimensions. Without an RMS rating, the 240 W figure can't tell you how much power the sub sustains, so treat it as a headline number. In a powered box the voice coils are normally wired to the built-in amplifier at the factory, so the dual voice coil isn't something you configure.
What you can rely on is the format. An 8-inch woofer in a compact box will add body to kick drums, bass lines and film soundtracks below where door speakers give up. It won't produce the depth or volume of a 10- or 12-inch woofer in a properly sized box.
The wired controller and connections
The included wired controller is the PWE-S800's most practical feature. Recordings vary a lot in bass content, and a controller near the driver should let you adjust the sub for each song instead of leaving it set too high for some tracks and too low for others. Alpine doesn't detail the controller's functions beyond adjustment, so ask us about it before you buy.
Alpine's product pages also don't list the input types. Whether your head unit connects through RCA pre-outs or speaker-level wiring decides how the sub is installed, especially with factory head units that have no pre-outs. Tell us your head unit and we'll confirm the connection. As with most powered subs, plan for a fused power cable from the battery, a ground and probably a remote turn-on lead, since the pages don't say how this one switches on; our guide on amplifiers in car sound systems covers the basics.
What owners and reviewers say about the Alpine PWE-S800
When we checked in October 2026, we found no owner reviews, forum reports or independent tests of the PWE-S800. Alpine's Asian and Indian pages offer promotional copy only, which leaves no owner record of its output, the controller's usefulness or long-term reliability. If you have one under your seat, we'd like to hear about it so we can add genuine feedback here.
PWE-S800 vs PWE-M770, SS-SB10 and S2-W8D4
The Alpine PWE-M770 shares the ₹34,999 MRP but is far better documented: a 7 x 7-inch square woofer, 150 W RMS (300 W peak), 10 Hz to 150 Hz, 90 dB and a 255 x 190 x 74 mm cast metal body. If published figures matter to you, or you need exact dimensions to plan an under-seat fit, the PWE-M770 is easier to buy with confidence. The PWE-S800 is the one with an 8-inch woofer and a wired controller listed.
For more output, the Alpine SS-SB10 (₹79,999 MRP) pairs a 10-inch shallow sub with a sealed enclosure rated at 300 W RMS, but it needs an external amplifier. A more involved route is the Alpine S2-W8D4 8-inch sub (₹20,999 MRP, 300 W RMS), for which Alpine lists sealed boxes of 5.1 to 15 litres, and which also needs an amplifier.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy the PWE-S800 if you want a hidden, all-in-one sub with a controller at hand, your car has a usable space under a seat, and you are happy to confirm the fit and connections with us before buying.
Look elsewhere if you want published RMS power and frequency response before you spend; the PWE-M770 provides both at the same MRP. The same goes if you want serious low-bass output, which calls for a larger woofer such as the SS-SB10 and an amplifier.
Installation notes for Indian cars
Under-seat space varies widely between cars, so start with measurements of the unit and the gap, checking seat rails, wiring and any rear-footwell air ducts with the seat fully lowered. If it won't fit there, a boot corner keeps it out of the way. Plan where the wired controller will sit: within reach of the driver, but away from the gear lever, handbrake and airbag zones.
Fix the box securely, because speed breakers and broken roads loosen anything that isn't bolted down, and leave some air around it rather than burying it under mats or luggage. Damping the panels around it prevents buzzes; our sound damping guide explains how. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation.
Price and where to buy
The PWE-S800 has an MRP of ₹34,999. We often sell below MRP, so check the current offer on the PWE-S800 listing. Every unit we sell is a genuine Alpine product.
The bottom line
The PWE-S800 offers an 8-inch woofer, a built-in amplifier and a wired controller in a slim aluminium box meant for under a seat. Alpine's thin specification sheet is its real weakness: no RMS rating, no frequency response and no dimensions on its product pages. If the fit checks out and the controller appeals, it is a neat way to add bass; if you want the numbers first, the PWE-M770 is the better-documented choice at the same price.
Alpine PWE-S800 FAQ
What is the RMS power of the Alpine PWE-S800?
Alpine's pages don't give one. They describe a 240 W amplifier subwoofer system without an RMS figure, so that number can't be compared directly with RMS ratings such as the PWE-M770's 150 W RMS.
Does the Alpine PWE-S800 come with a bass controller?
Yes. Alpine lists a wired controller with the PWE-S800, so you can adjust the subwoofer from the front of the car. Alpine doesn't detail its functions, so ask us about it before you buy.
Will the PWE-S800 fit under my seat?
Alpine's product pages call it ideal for under-seat installation and small spaces but don't publish its dimensions. Ask us to measure the unit against the space in your car, checking seat rails, wiring and air ducts.
