Updated: Oct 7

The Alpine PXE-R100-8 is a Hi-Res Audio sound processor with ten processing channels and an eight-channel amplifier, rated at 35 W RMS x 8. Alongside six high-level inputs for a factory head unit, it adds optical and coaxial digital inputs and HD Bluetooth, processes at 96 kHz / 24-bit, and is tuned from Alpine's PC software or the Alpine Music app. Its Indian MRP is ₹79,999, which is ₹11,000 above the PXE-R80-8, whose amplifier rating it shares. It suits owners who want to feed a digital source, such as a Hi-Res player, into a fully active system while keeping the factory touchscreen. See today's offer on our Alpine PXE-R100-8 product page.

Alpine PXE-R100-8 Hi-Res sound processor with eight-channel amplifier

Key takeaways

  • The same 8 x 35 W amplifier rating (4 Ω, 14.4 V, 10% distortion) and the same case as the PXE-R80-8.

  • It adds optical and coaxial inputs, ten RCA outputs instead of eight, 96 kHz processing and a quoted response to 40 kHz.

  • Six high-level inputs and turn-on from the speaker signal keep it practical with factory head units.

  • We found no owner reviews or independent tests, and Alpine doesn't list the sample rates its digital inputs accept.

Figures come from Alpine Asia's PXE-R100-8 product page and the PXE-R100-8 owner's manual, with the MRP from our June 2026 Indian price list. Our listing's figures match Alpine's.

What the digital inputs are for

Most factory head units only give you speaker-level outputs, and the R100-8 handles those through six high-level inputs, as the R80-8 does. The difference shows when you add a separate source with a digital output. Through the optical or coaxial input, the music stays digital from the source to the processor, skipping the extra conversion to analogue and back that an RCA or high-level connection involves. That is where 96 kHz / 24-bit processing and a response quoted to 40 kHz make most sense.

There are two practical routes. One is a dedicated player such as Alpine's UTS-A100, which Alpine describes as connecting a phone to a DSP amplifier. The other, for phone users, is a USB-C-to-optical converter such as the Zapco Z-OTG-OPT. Alpine doesn't list the sample rates the optical and coaxial inputs accept, so ask us to confirm compatibility before pairing it with a high-resolution source.

Be clear about the limit, too. If the factory head unit remains your only source, the processing rate can't make that signal high-resolution, and the R80-8 does the same job for less.

Factory integration and channel planning

For a factory system, the R100-8 works like its cheaper sibling. Six high-level inputs take the head unit's speaker feeds, Alpine lists matrix input summing to recombine signals that a factory system splits between speakers, and the manual allows turn-on from the signal on the first high-level input or from an ACC wire. Start-up takes 10 seconds, according to the manual. The factory screen and steering controls stay as they are.

The ten RCA outputs are the other practical gain. With eight amplified channels and ten processed outputs, two channels are available only as RCA feeds, which suits a subwoofer amplifier such as the Alpine S2-A60M. That leaves all eight amplified channels for an active three-way front stage plus rear fill. As with the R80-8, the 35 W rating is measured at 10% distortion, where CTA-2006 ratings use 1%, so hungry midbass drivers are better served by an external amplifier such as the R2-A60F.

Tuning and software

Alpine Asia supplies its ALPINE DSP PC Tuning software for Windows and the Alpine Music app, plus a firmware update file in the download list, so check the unit's firmware before a full tune. You get a 31-band parametric or graphic EQ that reaches up to 40 kHz, Linkwitz-Riley, Bessel or Butterworth filters at 6 to 48 dB per octave, and up to 20 ms of delay, far more than a car cabin needs. Our guide to setting up a DSP in your car explains the process.

What owners and reviewers say about the Alpine PXE-R100-8

When we checked in October 2026, we found no owner reviews, forum threads or independent tests of the PXE-R100-8. We looked at Alpine's Asian and Indian websites, retailer listings in India and South-East Asia, and forums including Team-BHP and DIYMobileAudio.

A Thai-language YouTube video is titled as a review of the R80-8, R100-8 and X120-10DP, but we could see only its title, so we can't report its verdict. Alpine's own material is promotional: it calls the R100-8 a next-generation digital sound processor, and the manual claims a signal-to-noise ratio of at least 100 dB and distortion of 0.01% or less. If you've installed one, tell us how it went, and we'll add genuine owner feedback here.

PXE-R100-8 vs PXE-R80-8 and PXE-X120-8

The PXE-R80-8 (₹68,999 MRP) has the same eight 35 W channels, six high-level inputs and 216 x 204 x 47.5 mm case. Alpine lists no optical or coaxial input for it, it has eight RCA outputs rather than ten, and it processes at 48 kHz. Its 8 ms delay range is shorter on paper but still ample for a car. If you won't use a digital source or the extra RCA pair, it is the better buy.

The PXE-X120-8 (₹1,05,999 MRP) keeps the optical and coaxial inputs and 96 kHz processing, but takes twelve high-level inputs, splits its amplifier into four 50 W and four 25 W channels, and has twelve RCA outputs. It suits premium factory systems with many speaker feeds. For a flagship build, look at Alpine's Status-series HDP-D90.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the PXE-R100-8 if you plan to add a digital source, such as a Hi-Res player or a phone-to-optical converter, while keeping the factory head unit for everything else, or if you need two processed RCA channels on top of eight amplified ones.

Skip it if the factory head unit will stay your only source; the R80-8 does the same amplifier job for ₹11,000 less. And if you want owner feedback before spending ₹79,999, we haven't found any yet.

Installation notes for Indian cars

The case measures 216 x 204 x 47.5 mm and weighs 2.4 kg, so measure under the seats before planning to put it there; a boot side panel is the usual alternative. Alpine rates it for operation up to 70 °C, but keep it out of direct sun and away from heat, moisture and dust, especially through a Delhi summer.

Route optical cables with gentle bends and keep them away from sharp edges and hot surfaces, because the fibre can be damaged by tight kinks. The unit is for 12 V negative-ground cars and runs from 9 to 16 V; fuse the power feed near the battery and use vehicle-specific T-harnesses where available. Price and where to buy

The Alpine PXE-R100-8 has an India MRP of ₹79,999. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current offer on the PXE-R100-8 product page, and tell us which source you plan to connect.

The bottom line

The PXE-R100-8 is the R80-8 with a digital front door: optical and coaxial inputs, two more RCA outputs and 96 kHz processing on the same eight 35 W channels. If you'll use a digital source, it is a sensible mid-range Alpine processor to build around. If you won't, save the ₹11,000 and buy the R80-8.

Alpine PXE-R100-8 FAQ

Does the Alpine PXE-R100-8 have digital inputs?

Yes. It has optical and coaxial inputs plus HD Bluetooth, alongside six high-level and two RCA inputs. Alpine doesn't list the sample rates the digital inputs accept, so check compatibility with us for high-resolution sources.

Is the PXE-R100-8 worth ₹11,000 more than the PXE-R80-8?

Only if you'll use what it adds: optical and coaxial inputs, ten RCA outputs instead of eight, and 96 kHz processing. The amplifier rating and case are the same on both.

Will the PXE-R100-8 work with my car's factory touchscreen?

It is designed to. Six high-level inputs accept the head unit's speaker outputs, and it can switch on from that signal, so the factory screen and steering controls stay in place.
