Figures come from Alpine's S2-A120M and S2-A60M owner's manual. Alpine Australia adds the 9–16 V supply range and three turn-on modes, and Alpine India describes the side-mounted controls; its page lists only the 4 Ω and 2 Ω ratings.

600 W at 2 Ω or 1 Ω: what the ratings mean

Into 4 Ω the S2-A60M is rated at 330 W, and into 2 Ω at 600 W. The 1 Ω rating is also 600 W: the amp is built to handle a 1 Ω load, but it doesn't make more power there. That's handy when a subwoofer's coils only add up to 1 Ω, but there's no reward for chasing the lowest impedance.

Alpine quotes the 4 Ω figure at 0.2% THD+N or less, and the 2 Ω and 1 Ω figures at 1.0% or less. Like every rating, they assume 14.4 V. Alpine Australia lists 9 to 16 V as the allowable supply, and output can fall as voltage drops, so a healthy battery matters in stop-start traffic with the AC running.

Matching Alpine subwoofers

The 600 W rating lines up neatly with Alpine's S-Series subs. The S2-W10 and S2-W12 are each rated at 600 W RMS and sold in dual 4 Ω (D4) and dual 2 Ω (D2) versions. A D4 with its coils in parallel presents 2 Ω, and a D2 with its coils in parallel presents 1 Ω; either way the amp delivers 600 W, matching the sub's rating. A D2 wired in series presents 4 Ω and gets 330 W.

For two smaller subs, a pair of S2-W8D4 drivers, each rated at 300 W RMS, can be wired to 1 Ω: each sub's coils in parallel, then the two subs in parallel. The amp's 600 W then splits into 300 W per sub, exactly their rating.

Controls, turn-on and factory head units

Tuning is kept simple: a 50–400 Hz low-pass at 24 dB per octave and a bass EQ of up to 12 dB at 50 Hz, which you should use sparingly, since each 3 dB of boost doubles the power demand. Alpine doesn't list a subsonic filter for this model, which matters most with a ported box; plan the enclosure with that in mind, or let a head unit or processor with a subsonic filter handle it.

Alpine Australia lists three turn-on modes: DC HI, Remote HI and Remote LO. The manual explains that DC mode switches the amp on by sensing the DC offset on a head unit's speaker-level outputs, fed in through a speaker-RCA conversion cable, so the amp works behind a factory touchscreen without a remote wire. The sound controls sit on the side panels under removable end caps, and Alpine's RUX-KNOB.2 remote adds a bass level control at the dashboard.

Alpine also quotes a damping factor of over 1,000, higher than any other R- or S-Series mono we sell, though in a car the length and gauge of the speaker wiring also affect how tightly the cone is controlled.

What owners and reviewers say about the Alpine S2-A60M

Here's what we found when we checked in October 2026: three reviews on OnlineCarStereo, dated October 2023 to March 2025, and no magazine tests.

All three are positive. One owner calls it a small amp with a lot of power and praises Alpine's consistent sound quality; another rates it good value and says it made the subwoofer clearer at 2 Ω, with better low-end reproduction; a third, a long-time Alpine buyer, praises its versatility and output, joking that it might be strong enough to hurt the sub. OnlineCarStereo moderates reviews to remove unproven negative comments, so treat this as a small, favourable sample. Alpine's own pages are promotional.

S2-A60M vs S2-A120M, R2-A75M and S2-A55V

The S2-A120M (₹55,999 MRP) roughly doubles the output, to 600 W into 4 Ω and 1,200 W into 2 Ω or 1 Ω, for ₹20,000 more. It's also wider, at 352 mm against 220 mm, calls for a main fuse of 100 A or more, and limits 4 AWG cable to 4.5 m, where the S2-A60M allows 10 m. The R-Series R2-A75M, at the same ₹55,999, is rated at 500 W into 4 Ω and 750 W into 2 Ω, and Alpine lists an 8–40 Hz subsonic filter for it.

If you're also buying a four-channel, compare the S2-A55V (₹47,999 MRP), whose built-in sub channel is rated at 300 W into 2 Ω. The S2-A60M plus the S2-A36F costs ₹71,998 at MRP but doubles the sub power at 2 Ω; the two share the same 220 × 56.5 × 210 mm chassis size, so they mount neatly side by side.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the S2-A60M if you're running one S2-W10 or S2-W12, or two S2-W8D4s, you're keeping a factory head unit, or you want a compact sub amp that matches the S2-A36F.

Look elsewhere if you plan two 10- or 12-inch subs at full power, which calls for a bigger amp such as the S2-A120M, or if you want a built-in subsonic filter for a ported box, which Alpine lists for the R2-A75M but not for this model. Installation notes for Indian cars

Alpine's manual warns that the amplifier produces considerable heat in operation and should be mounted where air can circulate freely. The boot is the usual spot; a 220 × 210 mm chassis can also fit under a seat in some cars, but only with enough clearance and airflow, so ask us to check yours.

Alpine specifies 4 AWG (21 mm²) power cable for runs of up to 10 m and a main fuse of 60 A or more; fit that fuse close to the battery. Ground the amp to bare metal, set the gain with a test tone rather than by ear, and keep the bass EQ low. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation, including enclosure advice.

Price and where to buy

Alpine S2-A60M - another view

The bottom line

The S2-A60M is a straightforward, compact sub amp: 600 W into 2 Ω or 1 Ω, a steep low-pass, bass EQ and factory-head-unit turn-on, in a chassis that matches the S2-A36F. It's well matched to one 600 W S-Series sub or two 300 W 8-inch subs. The one thing to plan around is that Alpine lists no subsonic filter, and owner feedback, while positive, is too limited to lean on.

Alpine S2-A60M FAQ

Is the Alpine S2-A60M stable at 1 ohm?

Alpine rates it at 600 W RMS into 1 Ω at 14.4 V, the same as its 2 Ω rating, so it can drive a 1 Ω load such as a dual 2 Ω subwoofer with its coils in parallel, but it won't make more power there.

Which subwoofer suits the S2-A60M?

An S2-W10 or S2-W12, both rated at 600 W RMS. Wire a dual 4 Ω version's coils in parallel for 2 Ω, or a dual 2 Ω version's coils in parallel for 1 Ω; either way the amp is rated at 600 W.

Can the S2-A60M work with a factory head unit?

Yes. It accepts speaker-level signals through a speaker-RCA conversion cable, and its DC turn-on mode switches the amp on by sensing the head unit's DC offset, so no remote wire is needed.
