Alpine PXE-R500S Review: What Alpine Publishes, and What to Check First
Updated: Oct 6
The Alpine PXE-R500S is a six-channel sound processor with a built-in amplifier that you tune from the Alpine Music smartphone app or Alpine's Windows PC software. Its Indian MRP is ₹48,999, which puts it between the PXE-640E-EL and the eight-channel PXE-R80-8 among the Alpine processors we sell. Beyond that headline, Alpine publishes very little about it, so this review sets out what is confirmed, what isn't, and what to check before you buy. It suits buyers who want an Alpine DSP amplifier with app tuning and are happy to confirm the details with us first. You'll find the listing on our Alpine PXE-R500S product page.

Key takeaways
Confirmed by Alpine: a six-channel sound processor with a built-in amplifier, tuned by smartphone app or Windows PC software.
Not published for this model: amplifier power, the number of amplified channels, input types, EQ bands or dimensions.
At ₹48,999 it costs more than twice as much as the fully documented PXE-640E-EL, so ask us for the full specification before choosing it.
We found no owner reviews or independent tests of the R500S.

What Alpine says, and what it leaves out
Alpine Asia's page for the R500S is short. It describes the unit as an audio processor with a built-in amplifier, claims sound quality and performance well ahead of rivals at the same price, and confirms phone-app and computer tuning. The downloads are a Windows software package and the AlpineMusic app file. That is all of the published data: no power rating, no input list, no EQ details.
Alpine Asia also lists a model with an almost identical name, the PXE-R500, and gives full figures for it on its PXE-R500 product page and in the PXE-R500 owner's manual: 4 x 25 W rated into 4 Ω (at 14.4 V and 10% distortion), four high-level and two RCA inputs, high-resolution Bluetooth, four high-level and six RCA outputs, and a 31-band EQ. Its marketing sentence is word for word the same as the R500S page. Alpine doesn't say whether the S version shares those figures, so treat them as a pointer to the family, not as the R500S specification.
That shared sentence also shows why the wording needs care. On the R500, a built-in amplifier and six channels turn out to mean six processed outputs and four amplified channels. Don't read six amplified channels into the R500S description until Alpine, or we, confirm it.
What a DSP amplifier does in your car
Whatever the final figures, a DSP amplifier does the same job. It takes the signal from your head unit, applies crossovers so each speaker only gets the frequencies it can handle, equalises the peaks and dips a car cabin creates, and delays the nearer speakers so the stereo image centres on the dashboard. The built-in amplifier then drives the speakers directly, so one box replaces a separate processor and amplifier.
If your car has a factory touchscreen you want to keep for its camera, phone mirroring and steering controls, the processor must accept the head unit's speaker outputs through high-level inputs. Alpine's PXE-640E-EL, PXE-R80-8 and PXE-R100-8 all have them. Alpine doesn't list the R500S inputs, so confirm high-level inputs before you plan an installation around it. Our explainer on the need for a DSP in car audio covers the background.
Tuning by app or PC
Alpine's page and our listing confirm two ways to tune the R500S: the Alpine Music smartphone app and Windows PC software. Alpine describes Alpine Music as an iOS and Android app, and its R500S download list includes a Windows package and the Android app file. The app suits quick adjustments from the driver's seat; a laptop session is the better way to do the first full set-up.
Careful tuning matters more than the box. Set the gains to avoid clipping first, and keep tweeters protected with sensible high-pass filters before you touch the EQ. Our guide to setting up a DSP in your car explains the process in more detail.
What owners and reviewers say about the Alpine PXE-R500S
When we checked in October 2026, we found no owner reviews, forum threads or independent tests of the PXE-R500S. We searched Alpine's Asian and Indian websites, retailer listings and the main car audio forums, including Team-BHP, Reddit and DIYMobileAudio, and also looked for feedback on the similarly named PXE-R500, without finding any.
The only claims about its sound come from Alpine's own page, which is promotional. If you own an R500S, we'd like to hear how it works in your car, and we'll add genuine owner feedback here when we have it.
How it compares with the PXE-640E-EL and PXE-R80-8
The PXE-640E-EL (₹21,999 MRP) is also a six-channel processor with a built-in amplifier and app or PC tuning, and Alpine documents it fully: 25 W x 4 into 4 Ω at 10% distortion, four high-level inputs, Hi-Res Bluetooth, four amplified outputs plus two RCA outputs, a 15-band EQ and up to 7.354 ms of delay. Unless the R500S turns out to offer something you need beyond that, the 640E-EL is the easier choice to judge.
The PXE-R80-8 (₹68,999 MRP) is the documented step up: eight channels at 35 W each under the same test, six high-level and two RCA inputs, HD Bluetooth, eight high-level and eight RCA outputs, and a 31-band EQ. For an active front stage plus rear speakers or a subwoofer it is the safer base, and the PXE-R100-8 adds optical and coaxial inputs with 96 kHz processing.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Consider the PXE-R500S if you want an Alpine DSP amplifier with app tuning in this price band and you're willing to have us confirm its inputs, outputs and power before you commit. We can check it against your head unit and speakers.
Look elsewhere if you want to compare published figures and owner experience before buying. The PXE-640E-EL and PXE-R80-8 both come with full specifications from Alpine, and they sit either side of the R500S on price.
Installation notes for Indian cars
Without published dimensions, measure the space you have in mind, such as under a front seat or behind the glovebox, and ask us to check the unit against it before ordering. Alpine's manual for the PXE-640E-EL warns against mounting in direct sunlight, near heat sources, or where there is humidity, dust or strong vibration, and the same advice makes sense here. A parked car in a Delhi summer gets very hot inside, so leave space around the unit for air.
Plan the wiring as you would for any DSP amplifier: a vehicle-specific T-harness where one exists so the factory loom isn't cut, a properly fused power feed from the battery, and a solid chassis ground. VA3 Car Studio offers professional installation in Ghaziabad if you'd rather we handle it.
Price and where to buy
The Alpine PXE-R500S has an India MRP of ₹48,999. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP. Check today's offer on the PXE-R500S product page, and ask us for the full specification at the same time.
The bottom line
The PXE-R500S could suit your system, but for now Alpine publishes only its headline: six channels, a built-in amplifier, and app or PC tuning. With no power, input or EQ figures and no owner reviews, it is hard to judge against the fully documented PXE-640E-EL below it and PXE-R80-8 above it. Ask us for the details first, and choose it once the numbers fit your plans.
Alpine PXE-R500S FAQ
How much power does the Alpine PXE-R500S have?
Alpine hasn't published a power rating for the R500S. The similarly named PXE-R500 is rated at 4 x 25 W into 4 Ω at 10% distortion, but Alpine doesn't say whether the R500S matches it, so ask us to confirm before you buy.
Can the PXE-R500S be tuned from a phone?
Yes. Alpine and our listing both say it can be tuned with the Alpine Music smartphone app, and Alpine Asia also offers a Windows PC software package for it.
Should I choose the PXE-R500S or the PXE-640E-EL?
The PXE-640E-EL costs less and comes with full published figures, including 25 W x 4 and four high-level inputs. Choose the R500S once we've confirmed it offers something your system needs that the 640E-EL doesn't.
