Alpine R2-S652 Review: What the Pro Two-Way Adds Over the R2-S65C
Updated: Oct 6
The Alpine R2-S652 is the Pro version of Alpine's 6.5-inch R2 two-way component set: 165 mm glass-fibre reinforced woofers in die-cast aluminium baskets, 25 mm magnesium hard-dome tweeters and two full passive crossover networks, rated at 100 W RMS (300 W peak) into 4 Ω. Its Indian MRP is ₹36,999, which is ₹4,000 above the standard R2-S65C and well below the three-way R2-S653 at ₹55,999. It is for buyers who want stiffer baskets and proper crossover boxes in a two-way layout, driven by an amplifier. Today's price is on our R2-S652 product page.

Key takeaways
The Pro two-way: die-cast aluminium baskets and two full passive networks, where the R2-S65C has composite baskets and in-line high-pass filters.
Alpine UK lists level settings for the tweeter and for what it calls the mid-range speaker (on this two-way, the 6.5-inch driver), each at −3, 0 or +3 dB.
Published power, 88 dB sensitivity, 65 Hz – 40 kHz response, 63 mm depth and 135 mm cutout match the R2-S65C.
Owner feedback is thin: three moderated reviews, positive on sound overall, with one reporting harsh tweeters at high volume and another wishing they had bought the three-way set.

Alpine's regional pages disagree on driver sizes: Alpine UK lists 4.3 cm tweeters and a 9.6 cm midrange, Alpine USA 1-inch tweeters and a 3-inch midrange, and Alpine India 25 mm and 90 mm, the figures used in the table. Everything else in the table comes from Alpine's regional pages, and the headline ratings really are identical across the three.
What the Pro hardware does
Alpine says the Pro models' die-cast aluminium basket is rigid enough to eliminate flexing and resonance during playback. That is the maker's claim, but the principle is sound: a basket that doesn't flex keeps the cone and voice coil aligned when the woofer is working hard.
The bigger practical difference is the crossover. The R2-S65C uses compact in-line filters for its tweeters; the R2-S652 gets two full passive networks, which in a two-way design normally filter the woofer as well as the tweeter. Alpine also lists level settings for the mid-range and the tweeter, so you can trim the balance in either direction: tweeter down if the windscreen makes it bright, or the 6.5-inch up if a dash-mounted tweeter overshadows the doors.
Amplifier and tuning
With 88 dB sensitivity and a 100 W RMS rating, this is a set to drive from an amplifier. Alpine's R2-A60F, which our listing rates at 100 W RMS per channel into 4 Ω, is a direct match and leaves two channels for rear speakers. One owner found the tweeters harsh at high volume, so set the gains with a test tone rather than by ear, start the tweeter level at 0 dB or −3 dB, and stop short of clipping. If you later add a DSP for time alignment, our piece on why DSP matters explains the gains.
What owners and reviewers say about the Alpine R2-S652
Feedback on this model is limited. This is what we found when we checked in October 2026.
Three reviews on OnlineCarStereo, dated February 2024 to April 2025, are mostly positive. One owner said they seem durable, are loud enough that the amplifier's volume needn't be pushed, and improve on the earlier R-Series sound. Another called them great-sounding but found the tweeters can be harsh when the volume goes up a lot. The third liked the sound but wondered whether the three-way version would have had better mids. OnlineCarStereo moderates reviews, so the sample may lean positive.
A YouTube video review of the R2-S652 also exists, but we haven't assessed its content. Alpine's product pages are promotional. We found no independent lab test, and no reviews from Indian owners, so if you run a set we'd like to hear how it performs in your car.
R2-S652 vs other Alpine component sets
Against the R2-S65C, the extra ₹4,000 buys die-cast baskets, full networks and the extra level setting, not higher ratings. Stepping up to the R2-S653 costs ₹19,000 more and adds a dedicated midrange, the change one R2-S652 owner wished they had made.
Outside the R2 family, the DP2-65C (₹43,999) is another Alpine Hi-Res two-way component set above this price, and the Status-series HDZ-65C (₹89,999) costs more than twice as much.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy the R2-S652 if you are building an amplified front stage, want proper crossover networks with level settings for both drivers, and like the idea of a rigid die-cast basket for a small premium over the R2-S65C.
Look elsewhere if you will stay on head-unit power, where the R2-S65C or the cheaper S2 sets make more sense, or if vocals are your priority and the budget stretches to the three-way R2-S653.
Installation notes for Indian cars
Check the door against Alpine's 135 mm cutout and 63 mm depth with the window lowered, and use an adapter ring where the factory mount needs one. Damp the door skin and seal the inner panel first; our damping guide shows how. The full crossover networks need a dry, secure home, ideally behind the kick panel or under the dash rather than inside the door, where water runs down the glass in the monsoon.
Place the tweeters on the A-pillars, sail panels or dash corners and use the swivel housings to aim them across the car. If your car has factory tweeter positions, ask us whether the R2 tweeters can use them. VA3 Car Studio offers professional installation at our Ghaziabad studio.
Price and where to buy
The R2-S652 carries an MRP of ₹36,999 in our current Indian price list. We often sell below MRP, so see the current offer on the R2-S652 product page. Every set we sell is a genuine Alpine product.
The bottom line
The R2-S652 is the R2 two-way for people who care about the hardware behind the drivers: die-cast baskets, full passive networks and level settings for both the 6.5-inch driver and the tweeter. It doesn't claim more power or a deeper response than the R2-S65C, and owner feedback is still sparse, but for an amplified install it is a well-equipped set.
Alpine R2-S652 FAQ
What does Pro mean on the Alpine R2-S652?
In the R2 range, Pro models use die-cast aluminium woofer baskets and full passive crossover networks. The standard R2-S65C uses composite baskets and in-line high-pass networks, with the same published power and sensitivity.
Should I choose the R2-S652 or the three-way R2-S653?
Choose the R2-S653 if you can mount a separate midrange and want more focus on vocals, and the budget allows ₹19,000 more. The R2-S652 is simpler to install, with one fewer driver per side.
Does the R2-S652 need an amplifier?
It is best with one. Its 88 dB sensitivity is average and it is rated for 100 W RMS, so an amplifier such as the R2-A60F at 100 W RMS per channel suits it far better than head-unit power.
