DS18 G6.5XC Review: GEN-X 6.5-Inch Component Speakers, 50 W RMS

6 min read

The DS18 G6.5XC is a GEN-X series 6.5-inch two-way component set, sold as a pair and rated at 50 W RMS and 150 W maximum into 4 ohm, with a listed sensitivity of 86 dB. Its Indian MRP is ₹9,990, and the pair includes silk-dome tweeters, passive crossovers and grilles. It suits a buyer who wants separate tweeters for a higher mounting position and has an amplifier to drive them. This review separates the 50 W RMS rating from the 150 W figure in DS18's page title, covers fitment and crossover details, and reports what DS18's own shop reviewers say. You can see the set on our DS18 G6.5XC product page.

DS18 G6.5XC GEN-X 6.5-inch 2-way component speaker system

Key takeaways

  • The listing gives 50 W RMS and 150 W maximum. The 150 W in DS18's page title and web address is the maximum rating, not RMS.

  • At 86 dB sensitivity it gets more out of an amplifier than out of a head unit, though DS18 says GEN-X can be used with 4-ohm factory amplifiers in most cases.

  • The crossover is a passive 3.5 kHz, 12 dB/octave unit, and DS18's manual mentions no tweeter level adjustment.

  • The woofer needs a 142 mm cutout and 57 mm of mounting depth; the tweeter needs a 40.8 mm cutout and 14.5 mm.

Figures come from the DS18 product page and the G6.5XC manual, matched against our listing.

DS18 G6.5XC power: 50 W RMS versus the 150 W in the title

DS18's page heading and web address both carry 150 Watts. That is the maximum rating. The key features list MAX Power as 150 Watts and RMS Power as 50 Watts, and the spec table and manual give RMS Power Handling 50 W and MAX Power Handling 150 W without defining either term. One reviewer on DS18's own shop makes the same correction, saying the 150 in the title is not the RMS rating and the speakers are 50 W RMS.

Size an amplifier against the 50 W RMS figure, as DS18's help page advises, and keep the maximum as a short-burst allowance. A four-channel amplifier giving about 50 W RMS per channel at 4 ohm is the natural match. For help judging that, see our guide to whether you need an amplifier.

Amplifier or factory power: what 86 dB means

DS18's overview says the GEN-X series was made for amplifiers but can be used in factory settings with 4-ohm factory amplifiers in most cases. It does not mention factory head units. With 86 dB sensitivity, the G6.5XC asks for more power than a higher-sensitivity speaker for the same loudness, so a head unit's built-in amplifier will not make the most of it.

The response is listed down to 35 Hz, but the woofer's resonance is 72 Hz and DS18 recommends a 60 Hz high-pass. Read the 35 Hz figure as a paper number and plan on a subwoofer for real low bass. One reviewer on DS18's shop found the set strong in the mid-highs and highs but weak in the mid-lows, and added a subwoofer.

The component design: tweeter and crossover

The silk-dome tweeters are 43.5 mm across and 27 mm deep, so they are small enough to flush-mount in many panels, with a 40.8 mm cutout and 14.5 mm of mounting depth. The crossover is a 2-way passive unit with a metal film capacitor and an inductor coil. Its 400 W rating is well above the speaker's 150 W maximum, so the crossover is not the limit.

The manual we read mentions no tweeter level adjustment and no tweeter protection feature. That does not prove the crossover lacks them, only that they are not listed, but it is a difference from the more expensive ZXI-62C, whose listing does mention both.

What owners and reviewers say about the DS18 G6.5XC

We did not find independent owner reviews, forum threads or magazine tests for the G6.5XC that we could read when we checked in October 2026. What we could read is on DS18's own shop page, which is the maker's shop, so these reviews are not independent. None carries a date.

The page showed four reviews, three in the top rating bar and one in a lower bar, with no star labels or average in the text we read. One owner tried many speakers, found these fit best and recommends them to anyone upgrading. Another calls them very loud and plans to upgrade later. A third calls them the best speakers they have owned, with strong bass and vocals, and would buy again.

The fourth is the useful one. That reviewer likes the mid-highs and highs but found the mid-lows weak, so added a 6.5-inch high-excursion subwoofer. With only four reviews, treat all of this as a small sample from the seller's own page.

DS18 G6.5XC vs G6.5XI and ZXI-62C

The DS18 G6.5XI (₹5,490 MRP) is the coaxial in the same series, with the same 50 W RMS, 150 W maximum, 86 dB and 60 Hz high-pass figures, but with the tweeter on the woofer and no crossover listed. The component G6.5XC costs ₹9,990 and lets you mount the tweeters higher, at the price of more installation work.

The DS18 ZXI-62C (₹22,990 MRP) is a different series: a 6.5-inch component set rated at 120 W RMS on DS18's page and our listing, with 88 dB sensitivity and a crossover that lists tweeter attenuation and protection. Its post sets out where DS18's own figures disagree. The ZXI-62C costs more than double the G6.5XC at MRP, and its higher RMS rating means it needs a bigger amplifier to make use of it.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the G6.5XC if you want separate tweeters for a pillar or sail-panel mount, you have or plan an amplifier of roughly 50 W RMS per channel, and your budget sits near ₹10,000. Our guide to car speakers under 10,000 INR covers that price band.

Look elsewhere if you want an easy drop-in swap, in which case the G6.5XI is simpler, or if you want deep bass from the doors alone. Plan a subwoofer either way, and look at the ZXI-62C if a listed tweeter level adjustment matters to you.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Check the door before you buy: the woofer needs a 142 mm cutout and 57 mm of mounting depth, and the overall depth with the grille fitted is 76 mm. DS18's manual says only to refer to the car stereo owner's manual for installation, and the page lists no mounting hardware or wiring, so confirm what you need first. The crossover box is 65 mm long and 27.5 mm high; its depth is unclear in the manual, so leave room.

Damp the door while the panel is off, as our guide to applying sound damping explains, and keep the crossovers away from wet zones. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation, and can build speaker pods and door baffles if a tweeter needs a new home.

DS18 G6.5XC price and where to buy

The DS18 G6.5XC carries an MRP of ₹9,990 in our catalogue, for the pair. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current offer on the G6.5XC product page. The listing says the pair comes with tweeters, passive crossovers and grilles.

The bottom line

The DS18 G6.5XC is a straightforward component set for a modest budget. Its rating is 50 W RMS, not the 150 W in the title, and its 86 dB sensitivity wants an amplifier and a subwoofer. The feedback we could read is four reviews on DS18's own shop, mostly positive and with one useful complaint about the low mids, so judge it on the specifications and on how well you can power and install it.

DS18 G6.5XC FAQ

What is the RMS power of the DS18 G6.5XC?

The listing and DS18's key features give 50 W RMS at 4 ohm. The 150 W in DS18's page title and web address is the maximum rating, so size your amplifier against the 50 W RMS figure.

Does the DS18 G6.5XC need an amplifier?

DS18 says the GEN-X series was made for amplifiers but can be used with 4-ohm factory amplifiers in most cases. At 86 dB sensitivity it gets more out of an amplifier delivering about 50 W RMS per channel than out of head-unit power.

What is the difference between the G6.5XC and the G6.5XI?

The G6.5XC is a component set with separate silk-dome tweeters and passive crossovers. The G6.5XI is a coaxial with the tweeter on the woofer. Their power, sensitivity and high-pass figures match, and the XI costs less.

What comes with the G6.5XC?

Our listing says the pair comes with tweeters, passive crossovers and grilles. DS18 gives no full contents list, and mounting hardware and wiring are not listed, so check with us before you assume anything else is in the box.
