DS18 ZXI-62C Review: 6.5-Inch Component Set, 120 W or 80 W RMS

7 min read

The DS18 ZXI-62C is a ZXI series 6.5-inch two-way component speaker set, sold as a pair with tweeters, passive crossovers and grilles, and DS18 gives it two RMS ratings: 120 W on its product page and, as far as we can read, 80 W in its range manual. Both agree on 240 W maximum, 4 ohm and 88 dB. The Indian MRP is ₹22,990, the highest of the six GEN-X and ZXI speaker sets we list. It suits a buyer who wants a component set with a listed tweeter adjustment and has an amplifier to match. This review sorts out the power and cone labels and the fitting dimensions, and reports what DS18's own shop reviewers say. You can see the set on our DS18 ZXI-62C product page.

DS18 ZXI-62C 6.5-inch 2-way component speaker system

Key takeaways

  • DS18's product page and our listing give 120 W RMS, but its range manual appears to give 80 W. Both give 240 W maximum, so treat 80 W as the cautious figure for now.

  • The woofer cone is Kevlar in DS18's heading and overview but glass fibre in its spec table and manual.

  • The 3.5 kHz, 12 dB per octave crossover lists tweeter attenuation of plus or minus 3 dB and tweeter protection. DS18 does not say how the attenuation is set.

  • The woofer needs a 141 mm cutout and 60 mm of mounting depth; the tweeter needs a 48 mm cutout and 20 mm.

Figures come from the DS18 product page and the ZXI range manual, matched against our listing.

DS18 ZXI-62C power: 120 W or 80 W RMS?

DS18's product page is consistent with itself: the heading reads 120 Watts RMS, the key features list MAX Power as 240 Watts and RMS Power as 120 Watts, and the spec table gives the same two figures. The browser title and web address carry 240 W on its own, so read that number in a search result as the maximum.

The range manual disagrees. Its General table for the ZXI-62C appears to give RMS 80 W and maximum 240 W. The text we could read puts labels and values in separate blocks, but the ZXI-62C block has eight of each that line up one to one, so we read 80 W as the manual's figure. The same manual lists the ZXI-654 coaxial at 80 W RMS and 240 W maximum.

We cannot tell you which figure is right, and DS18 does not explain the gap. Two observations point to the lower one. For the other six ZXI models in the manual's table, the maximum is three times the RMS rating, which 80 W and 240 W follows and 120 W and 240 W does not. The ZXI-654's woofer also lists the same 141 mm cutout, 60 mm mounting depth, 94 mm motor diameter, 410 g magnet and 64 Hz resonance. Neither settles it, so until DS18 says otherwise we would keep an amplifier to about 80 W RMS per channel at 4 ohm, which is safe under either reading. DS18's help page also advises matching the amplifier to the speakers' RMS rating.

Tweeter, crossover and attenuation

The tweeter is a 31.7 mm silk dome with a 25.5 mm voice coil and a 13 g neodymium magnet. The manual gives it a 48 mm cutout and 20 mm of mounting depth. The crossover is a passive two-way unit at 3.5 kHz and 12 dB per octave with screw terminals.

DS18 lists tweeter attenuation of plus or minus 3 dB, names tweeter attenuation as the crossover's adjustment and lists tweeter protection as an extra feature. It does not say how the attenuation is set or in what steps. The DS18 G6.5XC shares the 3.5 kHz, 12 dB per octave figures, but the manual we read for it lists neither attenuation nor protection.

Kevlar or glass fibre: the cone labels

DS18's on-page heading and overview call the woofer cone Kevlar. The spec table, manual, browser title and web address say glass fibre. The browser title and web address also call it an Elite set, while the heading, SKU and manual say ZXI. We cannot tell you which cone material is correct, so treat it as unconfirmed.

Fitting the woofer, tweeter and crossover

The woofer needs a 141 mm cutout and 60 mm of mounting depth, with a 66.3 mm overall depth and a 94 mm motor diameter to check against brackets and window tracks. Each crossover is 65 mm long, 128 mm deep and 35.8 mm high, so choose a dry spot for it. The manual has an installation heading with no steps under it and no box-contents list beyond the grilles, so we cannot tell you which mounting hardware or wiring comes with the set.

The response is listed to 40 Hz, but the free-air resonance is 64 Hz and DS18 recommends a 60 Hz high-pass, so plan on a subwoofer for real low bass.

What owners and reviewers say about the DS18 ZXI-62C

We did not find independent owner reviews, forum threads or magazine tests for the ZXI-62C that we could read when we checked in October 2026. What we could read is on DS18's own shop page. It is the maker's shop, so these reviews are not independent, and none of the four carries a date.

The page states four reviews, two in the first rating bar and two in the second, with no star labels or average in the text we read. One owner used a 125 W amplifier with DSP settings of 90 Hz, LR24, and calls the set loud and clear with nice mid-bass; the review does not say whether the 125 W is per channel or RMS, so it does not settle the rating question. Another ran it on a new head unit at 22 W RMS and found it surprisingly good, far better than the factory Bose speakers. A third calls it a good component set for the price.

The fourth review is the complaint: the sound is great, but the tweeters do not fit the enclosures provided. Its text says no more, and DS18's page does not say what those enclosures are. Treat the four as a small sample from the seller's own page. If you run a pair, tell us about the car, the amplifier and where the tweeters went.

DS18 ZXI-62C vs G6.5XC and ZXI-654

The G6.5XC (₹9,990 MRP) is the GEN-X component set in the same size. It is rated 50 W RMS and 150 W maximum at 86 dB, so the ZXI-62C has the higher RMS rating under either reading and 2 dB more sensitivity, and it costs more than double at MRP.

The DS18 ZXI-654 (₹12,990 MRP) is a 6.5-inch coaxial from the same series, rated 80 W RMS and 240 W maximum on DS18's product page and in the manual. If the manual's 80 W is right for the ZXI-62C, the two share a power rating, and the main differences are a separate silk-dome tweeter and a crossover with listed attenuation, against a coaxial with a PEI tweeter.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the ZXI-62C if you want a component set with tweeter attenuation and protection listed, you will size the amplifier to the cautious 80 W RMS reading, and ₹22,990 MRP fits your budget.

Look elsewhere if the unresolved RMS and cone labels bother you, if you want to stay near ₹10,000 (see our guide to car speakers under 10,000 INR), or if you want a simple drop-in swap, for which a coaxial is easier to fit.

Installation notes for Indian cars

A component set rewards planning: decide where the tweeters will go before you cut anything, leave slack in the crossover leads and keep the crossovers out of splash zones. Our guide to applying sound damping covers treating the door while the panel is off.

VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation, can build speaker pods and door baffles, and does DSP tuning if you add a processor. Our guide to the need for DSP explains when that is worth doing.

DS18 ZXI-62C price and where to buy

The DS18 ZXI-62C carries an MRP of ₹22,990 in our catalogue, for the pair. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current offer on the ZXI-62C product page. The listing says the pair comes with tweeters, passive crossovers and grilles.

The bottom line

The DS18 ZXI-62C is well documented in its dimensions and crossover figures, but DS18 has not kept its power and cone labels consistent. The feedback we could read is four reviews on DS18's own shop, mostly positive, with one fit complaint about the tweeters. Buy it for the component layout and keep the amplifier to about 80 W RMS per channel.
