Recoil RS CCA Speaker Wire Review: 16 AWG and 12 AWG Copper-Clad Aluminium Spools
The Recoil RS CCA Speaker Wire is a pair of speaker-wire spools with copper-clad aluminium (CCA) conductors, not pure copper: the RS16-300, 16 AWG on 300 ft (91 m) at ₹7,000 MRP, and the RS12-200, 12 AWG on 200 ft (61 m) at ₹11,000 MRP. Recoil publishes no resistance or current rating for either. They suit fitters who want a lot of wire at a low price per foot and accept the trade-offs of CCA, which this post spells out.

Key takeaways
Both spools are CCA, an aluminium core with a copper layer. The 16 AWG spool has 111 strands per channel and the 12 AWG spool 294.
At MRP they work out at about ₹23 and ₹55 per foot, and Recoil's OFC Premium spools of the same gauge and length carry MRPs about 3.3 and 3.9 times higher.
Recoil gives no copper share, resistance, current rating or positive-lead colour, so size the run with margin.
Our best-case copper table shows 16 AWG losing 3.19% of power over 5 m into 4 ohm; CCA of the same gauge loses more, by an amount Recoil does not publish.

Figures follow our listings and Recoil's pages for the RS16-300 and the RS12-200, which are promotional. The jacket colours are for polarity, but neither page says which is positive. Our RS12-200 address says woofer wire, while its name and Recoil's page say speaker wire.
What copper-clad aluminium means here
CCA has an aluminium core with a thin copper layer outside. Wikipedia's article on copper-clad aluminium wire says that for direct current it has higher resistance than copper of the same size, or needs a larger conductor to match, and that it can be hard to solder. Lower cost and lighter weight are among the reasons it is used. Speaker signals are alternating, but as a general rule, over a car-length run at audio frequencies the loss comes down mainly to conductor resistance.
Recoil's pages name CCA in the title and conductor line, and say the strand count gives maximum signal quality and longevity, which is promotional. They give no copper share or resistance per metre, so how far these spools fall short of copper is not something we can state. Recoil also puts True Spec in the title of its CCA and OFC spools alike without defining it, so the phrase does not tell you the conductor. Read the conductor line.
Choosing the gauge: a best-case copper table
Gauge is cross-section, so the American wire gauge table for solid copper gives a best case. A 5 m run to a speaker is 10 m of conductor out and back; an 8 m run is 16 m. The table shows the share of the amplifier's power that copper takes in the cable. CCA of the same gauge takes more, by an amount Recoil does not publish.
Copper reference | 5 m run, 4 ohm | 5 m run, 2 ohm | 8 m run, 4 ohm | 8 m run, 2 ohm |
|---|---|---|---|---|
16 AWG (RS16-300) | 3.19% | 6.18% | 5.00% | 9.53% |
12 AWG (RS12-200) | 1.29% | 2.54% | 2.04% | 4.00% |
In copper, 12 AWG has about 2.5 times the cross-section of 16 AWG (3.31 mm² against 1.31 mm²) and about 40% of its resistance per metre. With the CCA penalty unquantified, read the 16 AWG spool as a short-run, higher-impedance choice, and move to the 12 AWG spool for longer runs or 2 ohm loads. For scale, Recoil's page for the Recoil DII700.4 amplifier gives 95 W RMS per channel at 4 ohm and 150 W RMS at 2 ohm.
RS CCA against the OFC Premium spools
Spool | MRP | MRP per foot | Weight per Recoil |
|---|---|---|---|
RS16-300, 16 AWG, 300 ft, CCA | ₹7,000 | about ₹23 | 2.5 lb (1.13 kg) |
SW16-300, 16 AWG, 300 ft, OFC | ₹23,000 | about ₹77 | 8.4 lb (3.81 kg) |
RS12-200, 12 AWG, 200 ft, CCA | ₹11,000 | ₹55 | 7.94 lb (3.60 kg) |
SW12-200, 12 AWG, 200 ft, OFC | ₹43,000 | ₹215 | Not listed |
The OFC spool costs about 3.3 times the CCA spool at 16 AWG and about 3.9 times at 12 AWG. At 16 AWG the weights, 2.5 lb against 8.4 lb on Recoil's pages, fit an aluminium core being lighter, but the spools differ, so take the gap as a rough guide. The OFC spools are covered in our Recoil Premium OFC Speaker Wire post. The nine-conductor Recoil SW9C18 Speed Wire is an 18 AWG OFC alternative for four-speaker runs.
What owners and reviewers say about the Recoil RS CCA Speaker Wire
When we checked in October 2026, Recoil's pages for both spools showed no customer reviews, neither of our listings has one, and we found no independent reviews we could read. So there is no owner verdict to report, and we will not invent one. The only claims are Recoil's own, about signal quality, longevity and flexibility, and none has been independently tested that we know of.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy the Recoil RS CCA Speaker Wire if you need long lengths for a workshop or a budget build, will terminate with crimp or clamp-type connectors, and accept that Recoil publishes no copper share or rating. Short runs to rear or fill speakers are the easiest fit for the 16 AWG spool.
Look elsewhere if you want pure copper, plan to solder every joint, or are wiring 2 ohm loads over a long run, where the OFC Premium spools or a heavier gauge make more sense. Also skip it if you need a published resistance or current rating before you buy.
Installation notes for Indian cars
Terminate CCA with crimp terminals or clamp-type speaker terminals rather than relying on solder, and seal exposed ends with heat-shrink where monsoon damp or car-wash spray could reach them. Check that 12 AWG will go into your terminals before buying: the Recoil SW12D2 subwoofer's listing, for one, says its terminals take wire up to 4 AWG, but spring-clip terminals on small speakers often take less.
Recoil does not say which of blue and black is positive, so pick one, keep it the same at the amplifier and every speaker, and check polarity before panels go back. Doors flex thousands of times, so leave a slack loop at the door-jamb boot, use a grommet where the wire crosses metal, and keep it off sharp edges. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation if you would rather have the runs done for you.
Price and where to buy
The RS16-300 (16 AWG, 300 ft) carries an MRP of ₹7,000: see the RS16-300 listing. The RS12-200 (12 AWG, 200 ft) carries an MRP of ₹11,000: see the RS12-200 listing. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current price on each page.
The bottom line
The Recoil RS CCA Speaker Wire is cheap wire by the spool, and the price reflects a CCA conductor. It makes sense for short runs, long lengths on a budget and crimped joints. Recoil publishes no rating, so when the run is long or the load is low impedance, take the 12 AWG spool or step up to copper.
Recoil RS CCA Speaker Wire FAQ
Is the Recoil RS CCA Speaker Wire pure copper?
No. Both spools use copper-clad aluminium (CCA), an aluminium core with a copper layer, as Recoil's titles and our listings state. Recoil's OFC speaker spools that we list are covered in our Recoil Premium OFC Speaker Wire post.
Which spool should I buy, the RS16-300 or the RS12-200?
The 16 AWG RS16-300 (₹7,000 MRP) suits short runs to higher-impedance speakers. For longer runs or low-impedance loads take the 12 AWG RS12-200 (₹11,000 MRP), which in copper has about 40% of the 16 AWG resistance per metre. Recoil gives no CCA figures.
Can I solder the Recoil RS CCA Speaker Wire?
Recoil does not say. Wikipedia notes that CCA can be hard to solder, so use crimp terminals or clamp-type speaker terminals and seal the ends against damp.
Does Recoil publish a current rating for the RS spools?
No. Recoil's pages give gauge, strand count, jacket, length and weight, but no resistance, current rating or copper share, so size the run with margin.
