Recoil Premium OFC Speaker Wire Review: Four Spools, 16 and 12 AWG, 25 ft to 300 ft

6 min read

The Recoil Premium OFC Speaker Wire is four oxygen-free copper (OFC) speaker-wire spools in two gauges. In 16 AWG there are the SW16-300, 300 ft (91 m) at ₹23,000 MRP, and the SW16-60, 60 ft (18 m) at ₹5,000. In 12 AWG there are the SW12-200, 200 ft (61 m) at ₹43,000, and the SW12-25, 25 ft (7.6 m) at ₹5,000. All four have a red and black soft-touch PVC jacket, and Recoil publishes no resistance or current rating. They suit fitters who want copper conductors and choose the spool by how much wire the job needs.

Key takeaways

  • Four OFC spools: 16 AWG on 300 ft and 60 ft, 12 AWG on 200 ft and 25 ft, with 111 and 294 strands per channel.

  • Recoil's own pages disagree on purity and on the SW16-60's length, and our SW12-25 listing differs from Recoil's US page on the spool, so confirm with the maker.

  • Solid-copper tables put the power lost over 5 m into 4 ohm at 3.19% for 16 AWG and 1.29% for 12 AWG.

  • The only review we found is a five-star one on Recoil's site for a related 100 ft spool, dated October 2023.

Figures follow our listings and Recoil's promotional pages for the SW16-300, SW16-60, SW12-200 and SW12-25. Our SW16-300 and SW12-200 web addresses say Echo Pro; their names and Recoil's pages say Premium True Spec.

Choosing a spool: rack format or mini spool

Recoil supplies the 300 ft and 200 ft spools on its patented modular spool and rack system, gives no patent number, and says the spools and racks assemble vertically or horizontally and that bearings let the wire pull off smoothly and quietly. The SW16-60 comes on a patent-pending mini spool that Recoil says holds enough wire to connect the speakers of a standard audio system, fits standard spool racks and has a hanging notch.

Work out the metres before the format. Measure each run from the amplifier to its speaker, add slack for the door-jamb loop and total them. Four 4.5 m runs use 18 m, about the whole 60 ft spool. At MRP the 60 ft spool is about ₹83 per foot against about ₹77 for the 300 ft spool, while the 25 ft spool is ₹200 per foot against ₹215 for the 200 ft spool, so a small spool is not always dearer per foot. These are plain divisions of MRP, so compare current prices.

Where Recoil's own pages disagree

Recoil's pages for these spools, read in October 2026, do not always agree with each other or with our listings.

  • Purity. Recoil's titles for the SW16-300, SW12-200 and SW16-60 say 99.9% oxygen-free pure copper, but the descriptions say 99.99%. The SW12-25 page says pure OFC with no percentage, and our listings give none, so we quote no figure.

  • SW16-60 length. Recoil's main-site title and web address say 50 feet, a bullet on the page says 60, and so do our listing and Recoil's US shop.

  • SW12-25 spool. Recoil's US page describes a patented modular spool and does not mention the mini spool and hanging notch in our listing. Recoil's main site also lists a 12 gauge, 50 foot wire as SW1250, the name that starts the US page's web address.

The table follows our listings. Confirm length and purity with Recoil or the distributor before you order.

OFC against the RS CCA spools

At MRP the SW16-300 costs about 3.3 times the RS16-300 and the SW12-200 about 3.9 times the RS12-200, the spools covered in our Recoil RS CCA Speaker Wire post. The listed difference is the conductor: copper rather than copper-clad aluminium. So the gauge-table figures for copper are a best-case reference, assuming each spool matches its labelled gauge, with stranding adding a little. Over 5 m, 16 AWG takes about 3.19% of an amplifier's power into 4 ohm and 6.18% into 2 ohm; 12 AWG takes 1.29% and 2.54%. CCA of the same gauge loses more, by an amount Recoil does not publish. Recoil's SW12-25 page says the wire avoids the signal degradation associated with CCA, a promotional claim with no figures.

For four speakers and a remote lead in one jacket, the 18 AWG OFC Recoil SW9C18 Speed Wire is the alternative. For power cable, see the Recoil PW OFC Power Wire.

What owners and reviewers say about the Recoil Premium OFC Speaker Wire

When we checked in October 2026, Recoil's pages for the four spools showed no customer reviews, and we found no independent reviews we could read.

The nearest feedback is related, not direct. Recoil's own site has a page for a 100 ft spool of 16 gauge Premium True Spec wire, a different SKU from our four, with one customer review: five stars, dated 11 October 2023. The reviewer called the wire very flexible with a nice soft-touch jacket, said they used it to install an amplifier and a component set and were adding rear fill speakers, and said you can save a few dollars over other brands' wire and still get true 16 AWG. That is one review on the maker's own site, where moderation is unknown, so it is an anecdote, not a consensus.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the Recoil Premium OFC Speaker Wire if you want copper conductors in 16 or 12 AWG, can size the spool from your measured runs, and accept that Recoil publishes no resistance or rating and that its pages disagree on a few details. The 60 ft and 25 ft spools suit one car only if your measured runs fit within their length; the 300 ft and 200 ft spools make sense for a workshop cutting many runs.

Look elsewhere if you need a confirmed purity figure or length for the SW16-60 or SW12-25 before ordering, want the lowest price per foot (the CCA RS spools are lower at MRP), or want four speakers and a remote lead in one cable.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Red and black mark polarity, but our listings do not say which lead is positive. Red for positive is the usual convention; whichever you choose, use it the same way at the amplifier and every speaker. Measure twice before cutting from a long spool.

Route the wire along the sill under the trim, leave a slack loop at each door-jamb boot, and use a grommet where it crosses metal. Summer heat and monsoon damp are hard on joints, so seal crimp or solder joints with heat-shrink. Check that 12 AWG fits your terminals before buying, since small speaker terminals may not take it. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation if you would rather have the runs done for you.

Price and where to buy

VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current price on each page.

The bottom line

The Recoil Premium OFC Speaker Wire is copper speaker wire in two gauges and four lengths, so the decision is how many metres your car needs. Recoil publishes no rating, and its pages disagree on purity and two lengths, so confirm those before ordering.

Recoil Premium OFC Speaker Wire FAQ

Is the Recoil Premium OFC Speaker Wire pure copper?

Our listings call it oxygen-free pure copper (OFC) but give no purity percentage. Recoil's page titles say 99.9% and the descriptions 99.99%, and the SW12-25 page gives no figure, so confirm purity with Recoil or the distributor if it matters to you.

How much wire is on the Premium mini spools?

The SW16-60 holds 60 ft (18 m) of 16 AWG and the SW12-25 holds 25 ft (7.6 m) of 12 AWG, per our listings. Recoil's main-site title for the SW16-60 says 50 feet, so confirm the length before planning a job around it.

Which spool suits one car?

Measure each run from the amplifier to its speaker, add slack and total them. Four 4.5 m runs use 18 m, about the whole 60 ft SW16-60, and the 25 ft SW12-25 covers a single short 12 AWG run. The 300 ft and 200 ft spools make sense for a workshop.
