Zapco HB CB20F Review: A Compact 20 Farad Capacitor Bank
Updated: Oct 6
The Zapco HB CB20F is a compact 20-farad capacitor bank with a built-in voltage display, part of Zapco's Harmony Blue Note (HB) range. It's rated at 12 V DC working and 16 V DC peak, with an internal resistance of 0.0015 Ω, in a 160 x 115 x 45 mm case. The 2026 Indian catalogue lists it at an MRP of ₹26,990, about a third of the price of Zapco's 100 F Z-CB100F. It suits a single mid-power amplifier or a modest HB-series system in a hatchback or compact SUV, where a small bank is easy to hide. See it on our HB CB20F product page.

At a glance
20 F with 0.0015 Ω internal resistance, sized for one mid-power amplifier rather than a multi-amplifier build.
The voltage display is the most useful feature day to day, because it shows what your supply does at idle with the AC on.
It smooths short bass peaks but stores well under a watt-hour, so it can't replace battery or alternator capacity.
Feedback is thin: one five-star rating without comments at a European retailer, and a 2024 trade-news mention.

What a 20-farad bank does
Car audio's old rule of thumb asks for one farad per 1,000 W RMS. By that measure, 20 F is generous for any single amplifier, and the rule shows its limits: what actually decides whether a capacitor helps is where it sits and whether the battery and alternator can keep up.
Mounted close to the amplifier, the bank supplies the first part of each current burst through its very low internal resistance, so less of that burst has to travel from the battery through the full length of the power cable. That should trim the brief voltage dips that can make headlamps flicker on kick drums. Between notes, it refills from the same battery.
What it won't fix
In usable energy, a 20 F bank holds just under a fifth of a watt-hour between 14.4 V and 12 V, against hundreds of watt-hours in an ordinary car battery. Long bass notes at high volume, or an hour of loud music at idle with the AC on, are battery and alternator territory. If your voltage stays low rather than dipping and recovering, check the battery's health, the alternator's output and the Big 3 before buying any capacitor.
The display helps you tell the two apart. With the engine running and the system quiet, a healthy charging system usually reads above 13.5 V, though some modern cars vary their charging voltage to save fuel. Play bass-heavy music at idle with the AC on: quick dips that recover instantly are what the bank softens, while a reading that settles low means the charging system isn't keeping up.
Matching it to an amplifier
The HB CB20F makes most sense beside one amplifier with real current demand. Zapco's HB 810 II 8AD pairs a DSP with eight amplifier channels, four Class AB at 35 W and four Class D at 100 W into 4 Ω, so a rough estimate puts its full-output draw around 55 A. A four-channel Class D such as the HB 154D II (4 x 150 W into 4 Ω) sits in a similar bracket.
At the other end, the HB 46 II 4A drives 4 x 23 W RMS into 4 Ω and draws so little that a capacitor adds cost without a meaningful benefit. The same goes for a stand-alone processor like the HB 68 II, an 8-channel DSP with no amplifier channels.
What owners and reviewers say about the Zapco HB CB20F
We found no written owner reviews of this bank when we checked in October 2026. The European retailer Ahifi.store shows a single customer rating of five stars with no written comment, which tells you little either way. A 2024 trade-news item on CE Outlook lists the HB CB20F 20-farad capacitor among the Harmony products launched in the US through Apex Group, but it's a launch news item rather than an evaluation, and gives no price or specifications.
Zapco's own claims, which are promotional, are a very fast transient response, better sound quality, improved bass response and a more stable battery voltage. If you own one, tell us how its voltage reading behaves in your car.
HB CB20F vs the Z-CB100F
Zapco's Z-CB100F is the big brother: 100 F with the same 12 V working, 16 V peak and 0.0015 Ω figures, plus four displays covering current for up to three amplifiers as well as voltage. It measures 320 x 190 x 62 mm and carries an MRP of ₹79,990. Its titanium-top version, the Z-CB100F AT, isn't in our store and the 2026 catalogue prints no price for it. For one amplifier, the HB CB20F gives you the useful part, a voltage readout and a fast local reservoir, at about a third of the cost and in a case small enough to tuck beside the amplifier.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy it if you run one amplifier of moderate power, the headlamps flicker on bass notes, and your battery and alternator are healthy. It's also a neat way to add a voltage display to a stealth install in a hatchback or compact SUV.
Skip it if your amplifier is small, like the HB 46 II 4A, or your voltage stays low rather than dipping and recovering. For a multi-amplifier Class AB system, the Z-CB100F's capacity and per-amplifier monitoring suit the job better.
Installation notes for Indian cars
None of our sources describes a charging procedure for this model, but standard practice for any large capacitor is to pre-charge it through a resistor or test lamp before making the final connection; Zapco's manual for the bigger Z-CB100F prescribes a supplied charging bulb for the same reason. Connecting a flat bank directly draws a sudden surge that can spark at the terminal and blow the fuse.
Fit the main fuse within about 45 cm (18 inches) of the battery, the rule Zapco's manuals for the Z-CB100F and HB 68 II both give, then mount the bank as close to the amplifier as you can, with short cables of the same gauge as the main feed. For most single-amplifier installs, that means the Tchernov 8 AWG power cable or its 4 AWG sibling. Keep the bank out of direct sun, where you can still read the display, and secure it against vibration on rough roads. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad installs capacitor banks and amplifiers, and can help you interpret what the display shows.
Price and where to buy
The Zapco HB CB20F carries an MRP of ₹26,990 in the 2026 Indian catalogue. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP; see today's offer on our HB CB20F store page. It's a genuine Zapco product, distributed in India by Supreme Audiotek; Zapco itself is a brand of APEX Automotive Group.
The bottom line
The Zapco HB CB20F is a sensible, compact bank for one mid-power amplifier: 20 F, very low internal resistance and a voltage display that makes the electrical system easier to understand. It should smooth the short dips bass causes, but it adds no charging capacity and is wasted on very small amplifiers. Feedback is limited to a single comment-free rating, so judge it on its specifications and fit it properly.
Zapco HB CB20F FAQ
Is the Zapco HB CB20F enough for my amplifier?
For one amplifier of moderate power, such as a four-channel Class D like the HB 154D II, 20 F is ample for smoothing short bass peaks. For several high-current Class AB amplifiers, the 100 F Z-CB100F is the better match.
Will a capacitor stop my headlights dimming?
It can soften brief flickers on bass notes if it's mounted close to the amplifier. If the lights stay dim, the battery or alternator can't keep up, and a capacitor won't fix that.
Does the HB CB20F need charging before installation?
Our sources don't give a procedure for this model, but any large capacitor should be pre-charged through a resistor or test lamp before the final connection. Connecting it flat causes a current surge that can spark and blow the fuse.
