Zapco Z-150.6 AP Review: One Chassis for a Fully Active Three-Way Front Stage
Updated: Oct 6
The Zapco Z-150.6 AP puts six Class AB channels on one chassis, each rated at 150 W into 4 Ω or 275 W into 2 Ω, which is exactly the count an active three-way front stage needs: tweeter, midrange and mid-bass on each side, all filtered by a processor. Like the rest of Zapco's Z-AP competition audiophile series, it has no crossover and no controls beyond gain. At ₹2,69,990 MRP it is the most expensive of the three AP models in the 2026 Indian catalogue, and it is the one that Zapco-side results releases name in championship-winning cars. It suits a committed sound-quality build with a capable DSP and room for a 628 mm amplifier; our Z-150.6 AP store page has the details.

In brief
Six Class AB channels at 150 W (4 Ω), 275 W (2 Ω) or 500 W (1 Ω, music signal only) each.
At 628 mm long it is the largest AP chassis, so measure your mounting position before you buy.
The catalogue lists six RCA inputs and no outputs, so plan one processor output per channel and no daisy-chaining.
Promotional results releases say Z-150.6 AP amps powered MECA sound-quality champions in 2018 and 2019; we found no independent review we could verify.

Six channels, one processor: the active three-way
An active three-way front stage splits the spectrum between a tweeter, a midrange and a mid-bass driver on each side, with every crossover, delay and EQ band set in the processor. That takes six amplifier channels, which usually means two or three separate amplifiers, each with its own power wiring and mounting position. The Z-150.6 AP does it on one chassis with one set of power and ground cables.
A subwoofer can go two ways. Bridge one pair into 4 Ω at 500 W and run the front stage as an active two-way on the remaining four channels, or keep all six for the three-way and add a bass amplifier such as a bridged Zapco Z-150.2 AP. Either way the processor needs enough outputs. Zapco's HDSP-Z16 V AD-8A has eight, covering this amplifier plus a two-channel bass amp, while the HDSP-Z16 V AD-16A has sixteen, enough for two of these amplifiers. Our guide to setting up a DSP walks through the tuning.
Power, loads and the bridged figure
Per channel, the six-channel matches the two-channel AP exactly: 150 W at 4 Ω, 275 W at 2 Ω and 500 W at 1 Ω. The 1 Ω and 2 Ω bridged ratings carry Zapco's music-signal-only asterisk, and our listing calls for proper ventilation at those loads. The 4 Ω bridged rating is the odd one out at 3 x 500 W, where the smaller AP models manage 550 W per bridged pair. Zapco's product page repeats the lower number, so plan on 500 W if you bridge a pair for a subwoofer.
Six Class AB channels also make a lot of heat in one place. Class AB output transistors are biased to pass some current even at idle, which is what keeps crossover distortion low, so the amplifier warms up even at modest volume. Spread along a 600 mm finned chassis that is manageable, but only if air can reach the fins.
What owners and reviewers say about the Zapco Z-150.6 AP
When we checked in October 2026, we found no independent owner or magazine review of this amplifier that we could open. What does exist is a competition record, reported from the manufacturer's side, so read it as promotional.
A PASMAG write-up of the 2019 Car Audio Championships, attributed to Aurigin, Inc., says the SQ2 class champion at the IASCA INAC and MECA World Finals in Louisville, Kentucky, used a single Z-150.6 AP as the system's amplification, driving Hybrid Audio Unity U3 and U69-S speakers in a pickup's factory locations. A release on the 2018 championship, reproduced on Mobile Electronics magazine's Zapco page, says that year's MECA Modified Street champion ran a pair of Z-150.6 AP amps and also took the Gates Cup for the top sound-quality score across the Stock, Street and Modified Street divisions. It credits the 2018 SQ2 champion with a single Z-150.6 AP too.
That is genuine competition use, but it is not independent testing, and sound-quality judges score the whole installation and tune rather than the amplifier alone. An independent channel has also posted a YouTube technical review; we couldn't view it, and its title calls the amplifier Class B, while Zapco specifies Class AB. If you own a Z-150.6 AP, we would welcome your experience.
Z-150.6 AP vs Z-150.6 II vs REF 150.6
The Zapco Z-150.6 II costs ₹1,49,990 MRP, ₹1,20,000 less, and is a different kind of amplifier. It has filters on every pair, a 0–12 dB bass boost, a subsonic filter on channels five and six, and an input mode selector for two-, four- or six-channel sources. It is rated at 6 x 165 W into 4 Ω, the same 275 W into 2 Ω and 3 x 550 W bridged, but has no 1 Ω rating and quotes a signal-to-noise ratio above 100 dB. At 614 mm overall it is barely shorter. Choose it if the amplifier, not a DSP, will do the filtering.
The Zapco REF 150.6 (₹2,39,990, ₹30,000 less) is the closer rival for a DSP system. It also lacks controls, and Zapco rates it at 6 x 150 W into 4 Ω, 6 x 220 W into 2 Ω and 3 x 450 W bridged, with lower rated distortion (under 0.02%), a signal-to-noise ratio above 102 dB, socketed op-amps and a published 3 x 40 A fuse rating. Its biggest practical advantage is length: 480 mm against 628 mm, though it is 20 mm wider. The AP keeps the edge on rated noise and low-impedance capability.
Who should buy it
Buy it if you want a fully active three-way front stage from one amplifier, your processor has at least six outputs to spare, and you have a mounting position that takes a 628 mm chassis with air around it.
Think again if your system has no DSP: with passive speaker sets you would have no high-pass to keep deep bass out of the doors and no low-pass for a subwoofer, and the Z-150.6 II has those filters built in. If length is the issue, the REF 150.6 is shorter and cheaper, and two smaller amplifiers can be easier to place than one long one.
Finding room for 628 mm in an Indian car
This is the longest chassis in the AP range. Larger SUVs of the Fortuner type offer more choices, such as a false floor or a panel behind the rear seats; in compact SUVs, sedans and hatchbacks the length can quickly become the problem. Measure the full 628 mm plus cable clearance at both ends before ordering, or ask us to check your car.
Ventilation matters more than usual with six Class AB channels. Leave a gap around the fins, don't seal the amplifier under a carpeted false floor, and fit a small fan if it must sit in a closed compartment. After the car has stood in the sun, let it cool before a long, loud session.
Zapco quotes power at 14.4 V, so an idling engine with the AC on, or a tired battery, cuts into headroom. The fuse rating isn't in the data we have, so check the manual before sizing cable; a capacitor bank such as the Zapco Z-CB100F can smooth short peaks. Price and where to buy
The Z-150.6 AP carries an MRP of ₹2,69,990 in the 2026 Indian catalogue. VA3 Car Studio often sells it below MRP; see our Zapco Z-150.6 AP product page for today's offer. We sell only genuine Zapco stock, distributed in India by Supreme Audiotek Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi.
Final verdict
The Z-150.6 AP is the fullest expression of Zapco's no-controls idea: six identical Class AB channels, enough for a fully active three-way, in one chassis. Its competition record is real but promotional, its 4 Ω bridged rating trails its siblings', and its length can be a problem in smaller Indian cars. If you have the space, the processor and the patience to tune it, it replaces a stack of amplifiers.
Zapco Z-150.6 AP FAQ
Can one Zapco Z-150.6 AP run an active three-way front stage?
Yes. Its six channels cover a tweeter, midrange and mid-bass driver on each side, with a DSP providing every crossover. A promotional 2019 results release says one SQ2 champion used a single Z-150.6 AP as the car's only amplifier.
Does the Z-150.6 AP have RCA outputs?
The 2026 Indian catalogue and our store listing show six RCA inputs and no outputs, although the catalogue's Z-AP feature list mentions outputs. If you need a pass-through for another amplifier, ask us to confirm before you order.
How much power does the Z-150.6 AP make bridged?
Zapco rates it at 3 x 500 W into 4 Ω bridged and 3 x 1,000 W into 2 Ω bridged, the latter with music signal only. The 4 Ω figure is slightly lower than the 550 W per bridged pair of the two- and four-channel AP models.
