Hertz K 165 Review: Uno Component Speakers for Factory Upgrades

Oct 2
6 min read

Updated: Oct 7

The Hertz K 165 is a 6.5-inch (165 mm) two-way component speaker set from Hertz's entry-level Uno range: V 165 woofers, T 24 neodymium tweeters, and a 6 dB/oct crossover built into the tweeter wiring instead of a separate box. Hertz rates it at 75 W continuous and 300 W peak into 4 Ω, with 93.5 dB sensitivity. Its Indian MRP is ₹8,990, between the Uno X 165 coaxial and the Dieci DSK 165.3 component set. It suits buyers replacing factory door speakers who want a separately mounted tweeter without the work of fitting outboard crossovers. Check today's price on our Hertz K 165 product page.

Hertz K 165 Uno 6.5-inch component speaker set with woofers and tweeters

Quick summary

  • A two-way component set rated at 75 W continuous into 4 Ω, with high 93.5 dB sensitivity.

  • The crossover is a simple 6 dB/oct filter in the tweeter lead, so there's no crossover box to mount.

  • Tweeters can be surface-mounted or flush-mounted with the supplied accessories.

  • Owner feedback is thin but positive: one K 165 review and one for its 5.25-inch sibling, both at the top of the scale.

Figures come from Hertz's official K 165 page and tech sheet, and they match our store listing. Hertz's drawing gives the woofer's dimensions as unlabelled letters, so we haven't quoted a mounting depth or cutout; ask us to check your door.

The drivers and the in-line crossover

The V 165 woofer uses a water-repellent pressed-paper cone in Hertz's V-cone profile, which Hertz says helps off-axis response and mid-high detail, on a foam surround. Water repellency is a sensible trait for doors that see monsoon moisture. A 25 mm copper voice coil and an 80 mm ferrite magnet drive it, and the DIN-size basket has abrasion-resistant paint.

The T 24 tweeter has a 24 mm PEI dome and a neodymium magnet, small enough to fit most mounting spots, and Hertz says its annular acoustic lens is optimised for off-axis performance. That matters in a car, where neither front seat sits on the tweeter's axis.

The crossover is the key design choice. Instead of an outboard network, the K 165 uses a 6 dB/oct filter built into the tweeter wiring, which Hertz describes as making it an easy OEM upgrade. The filter keeps bass away from the tweeter; Hertz doesn't list a separate low-pass for the woofer. That keeps installation simple, but a gentle first-order slope gives less control over how the two drivers blend than a steeper 12 dB/oct network. Hertz's Dieci DSK 165.3, for example, crosses over at 3.5 kHz at 12 dB/oct.

Factory head unit or amplifier?

At 93.5 dB, the K 165 is efficient, so it makes good use of the modest power from a factory or aftermarket head unit. A head unit's built-in amplifier still runs out of clean power at high volume, though, and clipping is hard on tweeters.

A small amplifier delivering 50 to 75 W per channel suits its 75 W continuous rating. The Zapco ST-2B (₹10,990 MRP) is rated at 2 x 65 W into 4 Ω and lists an OEM speaker-level input, so it works with a factory touchscreen. If you plan a subwoofer too, the five-channel Zapco ST-5B adds a 250 W sub channel that suits the Uno S 300 S4. Once a sub handles the deep bass, set the amplifier's high-pass filter around 80 Hz to keep the woofers clean.

What owners and reviewers say about the Hertz K 165

Feedback is thin. When we checked in October 2026, UK retailer Four Car Audio's K 165 page had a single review from September 2018, at the top of the site's seven-point scale, describing them as clean-sounding speakers. That page's own spec list doesn't match Hertz's figures, so we've relied on Hertz for the numbers.

The same retailer's page for the K 130, the 5.25-inch sibling rather than this set, has one October 2018 review, also at the top of the scale. That buyer praised the sound for the price and said the bass was good without drowning out the highs, a good balance. Two short reviews are encouraging but not a consensus, and Hertz's own descriptions are promotional. If you own a K 165, we'd like to hear how it has worked in your car.

K 165 vs X 165, DSK 165.3 and CK 165

The Uno X 165 coaxial (₹6,490 MRP) shares the 93.5 dB sensitivity but handles 55 W continuous and quotes 60 Hz–21 kHz; it keeps the tweeter on the woofer, so there is nothing separate to mount, while the K 165 lets you mount the tweeter higher for a better stereo image. The Dieci DSK 165.3 (₹10,990 MRP) is rated at 80 W continuous and 93 dB, but its real step up is the 3.5 kHz, 12 dB/oct crossover. The Cento CK 165 (₹24,990 MRP) steps up to an outboard 2.5 kHz crossover with a tweeter level switch. For more options, see our guide to the best car speakers under ₹10,000.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the K 165 if you want a clear upgrade over factory door speakers with separate tweeters, you're running a head unit or a small amplifier, and you want a simple installation without crossover boxes.

Look elsewhere if you plan an amplifier-driven system where crossover control matters; the DSK 165.3's steeper network or the CK 165's level switch gives more room to tune. If you'd rather not mount tweeters at all, the X 165 is the simpler choice.

Installation notes for Indian cars

The woofer has a DIN-size basket, but factory openings vary, so many installs need an adapter ring; ask us to confirm the fit and depth for your car. Damp the door while it's open, because a rattling door panel wastes the woofer's bass; our sound damping guide explains how.

The supplied accessories allow surface or flush tweeter mounting. Placing the tweeters high, on the A-pillars, dash corners or sail panels, lifts the soundstage. Route the tweeter leads, with their in-line crossovers, away from window mechanisms and secure them so they don't rattle. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation.

Price and where to buy

The Hertz K 165 carries an MRP of ₹8,990 for the set of V 165 woofers and T 24 tweeters with their integrated crossovers. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current offer on our K 165 product page.

Hertz K 165 - another view

The bottom line

The K 165 is a simple, efficient component set: 93.5 dB sensitivity that suits head-unit power, separate tweeters you can place well, and a crossover hidden in the tweeter wiring. The trade-off is a gentle 6 dB/oct tweeter filter, with no woofer low-pass listed, which limits fine tuning. For a first upgrade from factory speakers, especially with a small amplifier, it's a sensible place to start.

Hertz K 165 FAQ

Can the Hertz K 165 run on a factory head unit?

Yes. Its 93.5 dB sensitivity makes good use of head-unit power. An amplifier giving 50 to 75 W per channel, such as the Zapco ST-2B, adds headroom for louder, cleaner playback.

Where is the crossover on the K 165?

It is built into the tweeter wiring as a 6 dB/oct filter, so there's no separate crossover box to mount. Hertz doesn't list a separate low-pass filter for the woofer.

Should I buy the K 165 or the X 165?

The K 165 is a component set with separate tweeters you can mount higher, rated at 75 W continuous. The X 165 coaxial is cheaper and keeps its tweeter on the woofer, so there are no separate tweeters to mount, but it handles 55 W continuous.
