Recoil Echo CCA Power Wire Review: 4 AWG and 8 AWG Copper-Clad Aluminium Spools

6 min read

The Recoil Echo CCA Power Wire is a pair of power and ground wire spools with copper-clad aluminium (CCA) conductors, not pure copper: the RW4-80, 4 AWG on 80 ft (24.4 m) at ₹11,000 MRP, and the RW8-150, 8 AWG on 150 ft (45.7 m) at ₹8,500 MRP. Both have a frosted blue jacket. We found no Recoil page for either spool, so every spool figure here comes from our listings, and neither gives a current rating. They suit fitters who want long lengths at a lower price per foot than copper and who will confirm the wire's current rating with the maker before choosing a fuse.

Key takeaways

  • Both spools are CCA with a frosted blue jacket: 4 AWG with 1,862 strands on 80 ft, and 8 AWG with 735 strands on 150 ft.

  • We found no current rating from Recoil, and CCA of the same gauge loses more than copper by an amount it does not state.

  • At MRP the spools work out at ₹137.50 and about ₹57 per foot, while the OFC PW spools of the same gauge and length cost about 4.4 and 4.1 times as much.

  • For one car, Recoil's RCK4 kit bundles 17 ft of 4 AWG CCA power wire and a 120 A fuse, per our listing, at ₹6,300 MRP.

Figures follow our two listings. We searched Recoil's sites in October 2026 and found no page for either spool, and Recoil's 4 AWG CCA category lists only kits.

What copper-clad aluminium changes on a power run

CCA has an aluminium core with a copper layer outside. Wikipedia's article on copper-clad aluminium wire says that for direct current it has higher resistance than copper of the same size, or needs a larger conductor to match, and that it may be hard to solder. A battery lead carries direct current, so that applies here. Our listings give no resistance or copper share, and we found no Recoil page for these spools, so how much more they lose than copper is not something we can state.

The best case is solid copper, from the American wire gauge table. Over a 5 m positive lead:

Copper reference

Resistance per metre

Lost at 50 A

Lost at 100 A

4 AWG (RW4-80)

0.8152 milliohm

0.204 V

0.408 V

8 AWG (RW8-150)

2.061 milliohm

0.515 V

1.03 V

These are example currents, not ratings, and the ground path adds its own drop. Voltage loss is one limit and heating is another, and our listings give no figure for either. CCA of the same gauge loses more than the table shows, so allow margin.

Matching a spool to your amplifier's fuse

As general practice, the wire's rating should sit at or above the fuse that protects it, and the fuse goes within about 45 cm (18 in) of the battery. Our listings give no rating for the RW spools, so we cannot say which fuse each takes. What Recoil does publish is amplifier fuse ratings, and our listings show how its kits pair wire and fuse.

  • Amplifiers: Recoil's pages list 35 A for the Recoil RL680.4, 50 A for the Recoil DII700.4 and 90 A for the Recoil RL1200.4.

  • Kits: per our listings, the RCK4 pairs 4 AWG CCA wire with a 120 A ANL fuse, and the PCK8 pairs 8 AWG OFC wire with an 80 A Mini-ANL fuse.

  • Bigger amplifiers: the Recoil SPL4200.4 page lists a 300 A fuse rating and dual 1/0 AWG power and ground connections, a larger size than either spool.

No Recoil kit we list pairs 8 AWG CCA wire, so the RW8-150 has no kit pairing to refer to, and the RCK4's is only a reference for the RW4-80, as its wire may differ from the spool. Add up the fuse ratings of the amplifiers on the run, and confirm wire and fuse with Recoil or the distributor before you rely on a CCA spool.

Spool or kit for one car?

Per our listing, the RCK4 kit (₹6,300 MRP) holds 17 ft (5.2 m) of 4 AWG power wire, 3 ft (0.9 m) of 4 AWG ground wire, RCA, remote and speaker leads, a fuse holder with a 120 A ANL fuse, a firewall grommet and terminals. At the RW4-80's MRP, 20 ft of 4 AWG would cost ₹2,750, and the kit adds the other leads, fuse and fittings. We do not know whether its wire is the same product as the spool.

An 80 ft spool is four 20 ft sets, which suits a workshop or one very long run. Our spool listings mention no fuse, holder, terminals or grommet, so plan to buy those separately.

The OFC spool costs about 4.4 times the CCA spool at 4 AWG and about 4.1 times at 8 AWG, at MRP. Our Recoil PW OFC Power Wire post covers the OFC spools. Recoil's US pages for the PW4-80 and PW8-150 give 0.12 mm strands and the same counts as our RW listings, 1,862 and 735, but our RW listings give no strand diameter. The CCA saving buys a lower price per foot, not a published specification.

What owners and reviewers say about the Recoil Echo CCA Power Wire

When we checked in October 2026, our RW4-80 page showed no reviews yet and our RW8-150 page has no reviews section. Recoil has no page for either spool that we could find, and we found no independent reviews or owner threads. So there is no owner verdict to report, and we will not invent one.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the Recoil Echo CCA Power Wire if you need long lengths of 4 or 8 AWG for a workshop or several installs, accept a CCA conductor and an unlisted rating, will confirm the rating with the maker before choosing a fuse, and will crimp your terminals.

Look elsewhere if you want copper, want a documented current rating, are wiring a single car (the RCK4 kit may be simpler), or have an amplifier whose manual asks for a heavier gauge than 4 AWG.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Disconnect the battery negative first, and fit the fuse within about 45 cm of the positive terminal. Use a grommet where the wire passes the firewall, route it away from the exhaust, engine heat and moving parts, and keep the ground lead short, bolted to clean bare metal. Both spools show only a frosted blue jacket, so mark the ground lead at both ends.

Crimp ring terminals with a proper tool and tug each one, rather than relying on solder, since CCA may be hard to solder. Seal cut ends and terminals against monsoon damp and car-wash spray with heat-shrink. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation if you would rather have the wiring done for you.

Price and where to buy

The RW4-80 (4 AWG, 80 ft) carries an MRP of ₹11,000: see the RW4-80 listing. The RW8-150 (8 AWG, 150 ft) carries an MRP of ₹8,500: see the RW8-150 listing. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current price on each page.

Recoil Echo CCA Power Wire - another view

The bottom line

The Recoil Echo CCA Power Wire costs far less per foot than Recoil's OFC spools, and the price reflects a CCA conductor with no published rating. It suits workshops and long runs where you confirm the rating with the maker before choosing a fuse, and crimp the ends. For one car, check the RCK4 kit first.

Recoil Echo CCA Power Wire FAQ

Is the Recoil Echo CCA Power Wire pure copper?

No. Both spools use copper-clad aluminium (CCA), an aluminium core with a copper layer, as our listings state. Recoil's OFC power spools of the same gauges are covered in our Recoil PW OFC Power Wire post.

Which fuse suits the Recoil Echo CCA Power Wire?

Our listings give no current rating and we found no Recoil page for either spool, so we cannot name one. As general practice, the wire's rating should sit at or above the fuse. Per our listing, Recoil's RCK4 kit pairs 4 AWG CCA wire with a 120 A ANL fuse, but we do not know that the kit's wire matches the spool, so confirm the fuse for any spool with the maker.

Can I solder the Recoil Echo CCA Power Wire?

Recoil does not say. Wikipedia notes that copper-clad aluminium may be hard to solder, so crimp ring terminals with a proper tool and seal the joints against damp.
