Recoil REC5D Review: 5 Farad Capacitor, Plus the 10 Farad REC10HB Hybrid

6 min read

The Recoil REC5D is a 5 farad electrolytic car audio capacitor with a blue LED voltage display and a built-in brass distribution block for two amplifiers. Its Indian MRP is ₹22,000. This post also covers the Recoil REC10HB, a 10 farad hybrid that Recoil describes as combining a carbon capacitor and an electrolytic capacitor, at ₹45,000 MRP. Recoil's pages for both give no operating voltage, ESR figure or system power. The REC5D is on our Recoil REC5D product page.

Recoil REC5D 5 farad power capacitor

Quick summary

  • The REC5D is listed at 5 F with an 18 V surge rating. The REC10HB is a 10 F hybrid with a 20 V surge rating, and Recoil labels its 10 F as true spec.

  • Both have a blue LED voltage display and the same brass block with three power and three ground inputs for 1/0 or 4 AWG wire. Recoil says the REC5D's block serves two amplifiers.

  • The MRPs are ₹22,000 for the REC5D and ₹45,000 for the REC10HB, a difference of ₹23,000.

  • Recoil publishes no operating voltage, ESR figure, block outputs or system power for either. We found no owner or reviewer write-ups.

The figures come from our two listings and Recoil's pages for the REC5D on its main site, the REC5D on its US store and the REC10HB on its main site. All are promotional, and we did not find the REC10HB on the US store. Metric figures are our conversions of Recoil's inches and pounds.

REC5D or REC10HB: what separates them

On the published figures, the REC10HB lists twice the capacitance, a 20 V surge rating against the REC5D's 18 V, and a hybrid construction where the REC5D is electrolytic. At a given voltage a capacitor holds charge in proportion to its capacitance, so 10 F holds twice the charge of 5 F. Recoil says the REC10HB combines a carbon capacitor and an electrolytic capacitor but not how.

The display, block, mounting hardware and low-ESR wording match. The REC10HB's weight, 5.2 lb (2.4 kg), is a little below the REC5D's 5.51 lb (2.5 kg), and its dimensions are not listed, so we cannot say whether it fits where the REC5D fits.

What the true-spec label tells you

Recoil's REC10HB page calls it a true spec 10 farad unit. The text of the REC5D pages we read does not use the label, although the web address of our REC5D listing contains it, and for neither unit did we find a test method or a measured value. Recoil states the actual value of its R1D, sold as a 1 farad model, as 0.3 F, as our post on the Recoil R2D sets out. If the farad figure drives your choice, ask Recoil or its distributor what the 5 F and 10 F figures represent.

The built-in distribution block

Recoil's REC5D pages describe a solid brass block with a satin chrome finish and three power and three ground inputs, each taking 1/0 or 4 AWG wire, and say it accommodates two separate amplifier connections. The REC10HB page on Recoil's main site describes the same block. Recoil does not publish the block's outputs, a current rating, any fuse arrangement or which power input takes the battery feed, so check the manual before wiring.

The 4 AWG power wire in the Recoil RCK4 kit matches one of the block's published sizes, while 8 AWG wire is not among the published sizes. For three or four amplifiers, the Recoil S-MPG4 is a separate four-way fused block that lists delayed remote outputs.

Voltage ratings and the display

Both surge ratings sit above a car's normal charging voltage, but Recoil publishes no operating voltage, so we cannot say what continuous voltage either unit is rated for. ESR, the capacitor's internal resistance, is described only as low. The blue LED display shows voltage, which is worth watching at idle with the air conditioning on, though Recoil gives no accuracy figure.

What a capacitor can and cannot do

Recoil's pages say the capacitors improve bass response and sound quality, increase the amplifier's peak power and help reduce dimming lights. Those are maker claims that we have not tested, and Recoil gives no wattage for the peak power claim. A capacitor supplies short bursts and does not add supply, so long stretches of low voltage point to the battery, alternator or cables. Both short descriptions end with the words for high power systems but give no rating.

Fitting notes for Indian cars

Recoil's pages give no installation steps, so follow its manual. A 5 F or 10 F capacitor draws a heavy inrush when first connected to a battery, so the usual practice is to charge it through a resistor or a test lamp first and to check the polarity before the full connection. The REC5D measures about 284 x 150 x 124 mm and weighs about 2.5 kg, so measure your boot or under-seat space first; the REC10HB's size is not listed. Keep the unit off the floor and away from heat. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation.

What owners and reviewers say about the Recoil REC5D

We looked for owner and reviewer feedback in October 2026 and found nothing we could read for the REC5D or REC10HB. Recoil's main-site pages show Reviews (0) and its US page shows none. Our tools could not read Amazon, Walmart or Reddit, and forum and retailer search pages did not load, so feedback may exist that we could not see.

Other capacitors to compare

The Recoil R2D is a 2.0 F capacitor with a voltmeter at ₹12,000 MRP and a published 10 to 16 V DC operating range, but no built-in block. Our Zapco HB CB20F lists 20 F, an ESR of 0.0015 Ω and a 160 x 115 x 45 mm case at ₹26,990 MRP, so it publishes an ESR figure that Recoil's pages for these two do not.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the REC5D if you run two amplifiers and want the capacitor and the connection block in one unit with a voltage display, and you accept that Recoil leaves out the operating voltage, ESR and system power. Our guide to the need for an amplifier in car sound systems covers how amplifiers are chosen.

Consider the REC10HB if you want the 10 F figure Recoil labels true spec and the 20 V surge rating, and you will confirm its size with Recoil or its distributor first. Look elsewhere if you need a published ESR or system-power rating, run three or more amplifiers, or want a capacitor to cure long voltage sag.

Price and where to buy

The Recoil REC5D carries an India MRP of ₹22,000, and the REC10HB ₹45,000. We often sell below MRP, so check today's prices on the Recoil REC5D product page and the REC10HB product page. Our listings describe both as genuine Recoil products.

The bottom line

The REC5D is a 5 F electrolytic capacitor with a two-amplifier block and a display at ₹22,000 MRP. The REC10HB is a 10 F hybrid at ₹45,000 MRP with the same block and a higher surge rating. Choose on the farads, the construction and the surge rating, the differences Recoil publishes, and ask the maker or distributor about operating voltage, ESR and system power first.

Recoil REC5D FAQ

What is the difference between the Recoil REC5D and REC10HB?

The REC5D is a 5 F electrolytic capacitor with an 18 V surge rating at ₹22,000 MRP. The REC10HB is a 10 F carbon and electrolytic hybrid with a 20 V surge rating at ₹45,000 MRP. Both have the same block and display.

Does the Recoil REC5D have a built-in distribution block?

Yes. Recoil lists a solid brass block with three power and three ground inputs for 1/0 or 4 AWG wire, for two amplifiers. It does not publish the block's outputs or a current rating.

Is the REC5D rated for a particular system power?

Recoil publishes no system-power rating for the REC5D or REC10HB. It claims the capacitors raise an amplifier's peak power but gives no wattage, so we do not present any figure as RMS.

Does the REC5D need pre-charging?

Recoil's pages give no installation steps. The usual practice with a large car audio capacitor is to charge it through a resistor or a test lamp before connecting it fully, so follow Recoil's manual.
