Recoil RMM65 Review: Echo Plus 6.5-Inch Component Set, 160 W RMS Pair

6 min read

The Recoil RMM65 is a 6.5-inch (165 mm) two-way component speaker system from Recoil's Echo Plus series, rated at 160 W RMS and 320 W peak for the pair, with a 4 ohm impedance, 89 dB sensitivity and silk dome tweeters that have a triple-level volume adjustment. Its Indian MRP is ₹14,000, which is ₹5,000 above the coaxial RMX65 and ₹3,000 above the Echo series REM65 component set. You can see the set on our Recoil RMM65 product page.

Recoil RMM65 Echo Plus 6.5 inch two-way component speakers

Quick summary

  • The continuous rating is 160 W RMS for the pair, about 80 W per speaker if shared equally. The 320 W figure is peak (Recoil's page title calls it max) and is not RMS.

  • The 160W in our listing title is the pair's RMS rating, but Recoil's US page prints 80 W RMS and 160 W max with no pair label.

  • Recoil publishes 4 ohm, 89 dB, 60 Hz to 20 kHz and mounting figures, and lists a crossover, but gives no crossover frequency, slopes or box contents.

  • We found no owner reviews of the RMM65. The nearest feedback is the maker-hosted reviews of the Echo series REM65, a different model.

These figures come from our listing and Recoil's RMM65 page, cross-checked against Recoil's US page. Recoil prints the three dimensions in inches, so the millimetre values are our conversions.

Reading Recoil's power figures: 160 W RMS, 320 W peak and the US page

Recoil's main site and our listing label both ratings as the pair's: 160 W RMS and 320 W peak. Shared equally, that is 80 W RMS per speaker, the figure to plan an amplifier around. The page title calls the 320 W figure max and the description calls it peak; neither is RMS.

The US page prints 80 W RMS and 160 W max with no pair label, and its web address still says max 320 watts pair. Those are exactly half the main-site figures, as a per-speaker rating would be, but the page does not say so. So 160 is an RMS rating on one Recoil page and a max rating on another. If you plan to run an amplifier close to 80 W per channel, confirm the basis with Recoil or the distributor first.

Our guide to why a car needs an amplifier says to look at RMS ratings rather than peak power. The Recoil DII700.4 is rated at 95 W RMS per channel into 4 ohm at 14.4 V, 15 W above each speaker's share, so set its gains conservatively.

Crossover and tweeters: what Recoil includes and leaves out

A component set lets the tweeter sit away from the woofer. Recoil describes the RMM65's tweeters as silk soft domes with 1 in voice coils (the coaxial RMX65's tweeter voice coil is listed at 0.8 in), with a three-level volume control to offset imperfect placement or suit taste, and lists a crossover network as included.

Recoil's page gives no crossover frequency or slopes, tweeter mounting depth or box contents. If you tune with a DSP, our guide to why a car needs a DSP explains time alignment, EQ and crossovers. Recoil does not say whether the tweeters can run without the supplied crossover, so confirm that before you bypass it.

What owners and reviewers say about the Recoil RMM65

When we checked in October 2026, Recoil's page for the RMM65 showed no reviews, its US page showed no rating, and we found no independent owner reviews or tests. Some forum and retailer search pages were blocked or returned errors, so write-ups may exist that we could not see.

The nearest feedback is for a different model, the Echo series REM65 component set, whose Recoil page shows five five-star reviews dated March 2022 to March 2024. Recoil hosts and moderates them, so they are not independent, and none covers the RMM65. The praise is mostly about value for the price. On the tweeters, one reviewer called them somewhat bright and linked that partly to their own hearing, and another turned the level to its lowest because of the tweeter's position in the windscreen pillar. If you own the RMM65, tell us in the comments which car and amplifier you use.

Recoil RMM65 vs RMX65, REM65 and RX65

The Echo Plus Recoil RMX65 (₹9,000 MRP) is the coaxial version, with the same 160 W RMS pair rating, 4 ohm, 89 dB and 60 Hz to 20 kHz, and the tweeter built into the woofer. The RMM65 costs ₹5,000 more at MRP for separate tweeters you can place yourself and a triple-level adjustment that Recoil lists for the RMM65 and not for the RMX65.

The Echo series Recoil REM65 (₹11,000 MRP) is also a 6.5-inch component set, rated 100 W RMS per pair. Recoil publishes no impedance, sensitivity or frequency response for it. It costs ₹3,000 less at MRP.

The Echo Pro Recoil RX65 (₹13,000 MRP) is a coaxial listed at 70 W RMS and 140 W peak, and Recoil does not say whether that is per pair or per speaker. Either way the RMM65's pair rating is higher, for ₹1,000 more.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Measure before you cut. Recoil's mounting diameter of about 144.5 mm is the nearest figure it gives to a cut-out, and the frame is about 166 mm across. It does not say which driver the 66 mm mounting depth describes, and gives no tweeter depth or crossover size, so measure each tweeter spot and find a dry place for the crossover first. In a door, check that the window glass clears the magnet at full travel.

A firm baffle, a foam seal and damping on the door skin all help; our sound damping guide shows where the material goes, and our installation etiquette guide covers the battery and the final test. Dash-top and pillar tweeters take direct sun through the windscreen, so check the adhesive tolerates the heat. VA3 Car Studio offers professional installation in Ghaziabad, builds speaker pods and door baffles, and offers DSP tuning.

Price and where to buy

The Recoil RMM65 has an India MRP of ₹14,000. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check today's price on the RMM65 product page. Our listing calls it a genuine Recoil product. Recoil's warranty page is written for the US and covers the original purchaser with a receipt from an authorised dealer, so confirm with Recoil or its distributor what applies to stock sold in India.

Recoil RMM65 Echo Plus 6.5 inch component speakers - another view

The bottom line

The RMM65 is the Echo Plus component set: a 160 W RMS pair rating, 4 ohm, 89 dB, separate silk dome tweeters with a triple-level adjustment and a listed crossover, but no reviews of its own and two Recoil pages that disagree on power. Buy it if you have 6.5-inch openings, want to place the tweeters yourself and plan an amplifier near 80 W RMS per channel. Look elsewhere if you want a drop-in coaxial, which is the RMX65, or want owner reviews first.

Recoil RMM65 FAQ

What is the Recoil RMM65's RMS power?

Recoil's main site rates it at 160 W RMS for the pair, about 80 W per speaker if shared equally. The 320 W figure is peak, not RMS. Recoil's US page prints 80 W RMS and 160 W max with no pair label, so confirm the basis with Recoil or the distributor.

What are the RMM65's impedance and sensitivity?

Recoil lists 4 ohm, 89 dB sensitivity and a 60 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response, with no test conditions for the sensitivity figure.

Does the Recoil RMM65 come with a crossover?

Recoil lists a crossover network as included, with a triple-level tweeter volume adjustment, but gives no crossover frequency, slopes or box contents. Confirm the details with Recoil or the distributor.

How does the RMM65 differ from the RMX65?

Both are rated 160 W RMS per pair with 4 ohm and 89 dB. The RMM65 has separate 1 in tweeters and a triple-level adjustment, while the RMX65 is a coaxial with the tweeter built in, and the RMM65 costs ₹5,000 more at MRP.
