Recoil RMX65 Review: Echo Plus 6.5-Inch Coaxials, 160 W RMS Pair

5 min read

The Recoil RMX65 is a pair of 6.5-inch (165 mm) two-way coaxial speakers from Recoil's Echo Plus series, rated at 160 W RMS and 320 W max for the pair (80 W RMS and 160 W peak per speaker), with a 4 ohm impedance, 89 dB sensitivity and a 60 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response. Its Indian MRP is ₹9,000, the same as the 6x9 RCX694 and ₹3,000 above the RCX65. You can see the pair on our Recoil RMX65 product page.

Recoil RMX65 Echo Plus 6.5 inch two-way coaxial speakers

Quick summary

  • The continuous rating is 160 W RMS for the pair, or 80 W RMS per speaker. The 320 W max (pair) and 160 W peak (per speaker) figures are not RMS.

  • The 160W in our listing title is the pair's RMS rating, and the same number is each speaker's peak rating, so it is easy to misread.

  • Of the five Echo and Echo Plus coaxials we list, it is the only one that publishes impedance and frequency response, along with 89 dB sensitivity and mounting figures. Recoil's own pages disagree on the tweeter material and the surround.

  • We found no owner reviews.

These figures come from our listing and Recoil's RMX65 page, cross-checked against Recoil's US page. Recoil prints the three dimensions in inches, so the millimetre values are our conversions. Recoil's table gives the 80 W RMS and 160 W peak rows without saying per speaker; those labels come from our listing, as explained below.

Pair and per-speaker power: which number is which

Recoil's description gives the pair: 160 W RMS and 320 W max, and the page title repeats the 320 W. Its specification table lists 80 W RMS and 160 W peak without saying per speaker; they are exactly half the pair figures, and our listing labels them per speaker. That makes the 160W in our listing title the pair's RMS rating, and also each speaker's peak. For an amplifier, use the RMS figure: 80 W per channel.

The Recoil DII700.4 is rated at 95 W RMS per channel into 4 ohm at 14.4 V, which is 15 W above each speaker's rating, so set its gains conservatively and use a high-pass filter. Unlike the other Echo series coaxials we list, the RMX65 states its impedance, so the 4 ohm match can be read from the datasheet. Recoil's own buying guide also says to match an amplifier to RMS, though it is promotional and names no model.

Where Recoil's own pages disagree

Recoil's page title and specification table call the tweeter a silk dome with a 0.8 in voice coil. One line in the same page's description says PEI dome, and the US page says PEI silk dome. We follow the title and table, as our listing does. The surround is butyl rubber on Recoil's main site and in our listing, but the US page says NBR.

The two pages give the same impedance, sensitivity, frequency response and 80 W RMS, and neither says per speaker; the US page calls the 160 W figure max where the main site's table says peak. Beyond that the differences are in materials only. Confirm the materials with Recoil or the distributor if they matter to you. We also leave out the US page's metric voice coil figure, which does not match its own 1.2 in.

What owners and reviewers say about the Recoil RMX65

When we checked in October 2026, Recoil's own page for the RMX65 showed no reviews, and its US page showed no rating. We found no independent owner reviews or tests, though some forum and retailer search pages were blocked or returned errors, so write-ups may exist that we could not see. If you own the RMX65, leave a comment with your car, your amplifier and what you hear.

Recoil RMX65 vs RMM65, RX65 and RCX65

The Recoil RMM65 (₹14,000 MRP) is the component version, with the same 160 W RMS pair rating, 4 ohm, 89 dB and 60 Hz to 20 kHz. It adds separate silk dome tweeters and a triple-level tweeter adjustment, which Recoil lists for the RMM65 and not for the RMX65, and costs ₹5,000 more at MRP.

The Echo Pro Recoil RX65 (₹13,000 MRP) is listed at 70 W RMS and 140 W peak without Recoil saying whether that is per pair or per speaker; either way the RMX65's rating is higher, at ₹4,000 less. The Echo Recoil RCX65 (₹6,000 MRP) is rated 100 W RMS per pair and publishes no impedance or sensitivity. For the same ₹9,000 MRP, the 6x9 Recoil RCX694 is rated 70 W RMS per pair. Choose by the opening you have.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Measure before you cut. Recoil does not use the word cut-out, but its mounting diameter of about 144.5 mm is the nearest figure it gives, and the mounting depth of about 66 mm is the room to allow behind the panel. In a door, check that the window glass clears the magnet at full travel.

A firm baffle, a foam seal and damping on the door skin all help; our sound damping guide shows where the material goes, and our installation etiquette guide covers the battery and the final test. VA3 Car Studio offers professional installation in Ghaziabad, builds door baffles and speaker pods, and offers DSP tuning.

Price and where to buy

The Recoil RMX65 has an India MRP of ₹9,000. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check today's price on the RMX65 product page. Our listing calls it a genuine Recoil product. Recoil's warranty page is written for the US and covers the original purchaser with a receipt from an authorised dealer, so confirm with Recoil or its distributor what applies to stock sold in India.

Recoil RMX65 Echo Plus 6.5 inch coaxial speakers - another view

The bottom line

The RMX65 is a 6.5-inch coaxial with a fuller datasheet than the Echo series coaxials we list: 4 ohm, 89 dB, 60 Hz to 20 kHz and mounting figures, with a 160 W RMS pair rating. Two material details are inconsistent between Recoil's pages, and there is no owner feedback. Buy it if you have 6.5-inch openings and want published figures to plan an amplifier around. Look elsewhere if you want separate tweeters, which is the RMM65, or if your car has 6x9 openings.

Recoil RMX65 FAQ

What is the Recoil RMX65's RMS power?

It is rated 160 W RMS for the pair, which is 80 W RMS per speaker. The 320 W max for the pair and the 160 W peak per speaker are not RMS.

What are the RMX65's impedance and sensitivity?

Recoil lists 4 ohm, 89 dB sensitivity and a 60 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response. It does not say how the sensitivity was measured.

Is the RMX65's tweeter silk or PEI?

Recoil's title and specification table say silk dome, one description line says PEI dome and the US page says PEI silk dome. Our listing says silk; confirm with Recoil or the distributor if it matters.

How does the RMX65 differ from the RMM65?

Both are rated 160 W RMS per pair. The RMX65 is a coaxial with the tweeter built in, while the RMM65 is a component set with separate tweeters and a triple-level tweeter adjustment, at ₹5,000 more at MRP.
