Tchernov Supreme MK2 Speaker Wire Review: 99.99% OFC in 18, 16 and 14 Gauge
Updated: Oct 6
The Tchernov Supreme MK2 speaker wire is the top rung of the Tchernov speaker-wire ladder in our range by name, above the Standard 1.0, Standard 2.0 and Special 2.5: a 99.99% oxygen-free copper (OFC) cable in a matt dark red jacket, sold on 100 m plastic spools in 18, 16 and 14 gauge. The 2026 Indian catalogue prices those spools at ₹34,990, ₹59,990 and ₹74,990, the lowest entry price of the four, and it's the only one with published resistance, capacitance and inductance figures. It suits buyers who want a manageable spool and a choice of gauge, with one caveat: Tchernov's official website has no Supreme series, so this may be a line made for India. All three gauges are listed, starting with our Tchernov Supreme MK2 speaker wire 18-gauge spool page.

What matters most
Three gauges on 100 m spools: 18 GA at ₹34,990, 16 GA at ₹59,990 and 14 GA at ₹74,990, roughly ₹350 to ₹750 a metre.
The catalogue quotes 0.0194 Ω/m, 49.38 pF/m and 1.25 µH/m without saying which gauge those figures describe.
Tchernov's website has no Supreme page, and no country of origin is stated.
We found no owner review or press test of it as of October 2026.

Everything in the table is from the 2026 Indian catalogue and our store listings. There's no manufacturer data sheet to cross-check, and the catalogue prints a single set of electrical figures and a single outer size without saying which gauge they describe. Strand count and insulation material aren't published.
A Tchernov line that isn't on Tchernov's website
Tchernov Cable's official site organises its range into the Standard, Special, Classic, Reference, Ultimate and Pro series, and we found no Supreme speaker wire in any of them. The Supreme MK2 does appear in the 2026 Indian Tchernov catalogue, and our store sells it as a genuine Tchernov Cable product, but we can't point you to any official Tchernov documentation for it. It may be a line made for the Indian market.
Names vary too: the catalogue says Supreme MK 2, our store says Supreme Mk II, and the spool in the catalogue photo is labelled Supreme 1.0. Unlike the Standard and Special wires, it carries no made-in-Russia note. If provenance matters, ask us to check with the distributor, Supreme Audiotek, before you buy.
The top rung of Tchernov's speaker-wire ladder
Our Tchernov speaker wires climb in four steps, with the Supreme MK2 at the top (per-metre figures use the spool lengths our store lists):
Standard 1.0 speaker wire: 2 x 1.0 mm² (17 AWG) in a flat 3 x 6 mm pair, ₹1,44,990 for the 280 m spool, about ₹518 a metre.
Standard 2.0 speaker wire: 2 x 2.0 mm² (labelled 15 AWG by Tchernov, though closer to 14 AWG), 4 x 8 mm, ₹1,69,990 for the 180 m spool, about ₹944 a metre.
Special 2.5 speaker wire: 2 x 2.5 mm² with foamed-PE insulation under a damped jacket, 5 x 12 mm, ₹1,29,990 for 95 m, about ₹1,368 a metre.
Supreme MK2: 99.99% OFC in 18, 16 or 14 gauge, ₹34,990 to ₹74,990 per 100 m, about ₹350 to ₹750 a metre.
What puts the Supreme at the top is its name, its stated copper purity and its published electrical figures, which none of the other three has. The catalogue doesn't rank the lines, so don't read the order as a ranking of copper or price. The Special 2.5 has the thickest stated conductors and the highest price per metre, while the 14-gauge Supreme, roughly 2.1 mm² if the gauges follow AWG, costs about ₹194 a metre less than the Standard 2.0 for similar copper.
What the published figures mean over a car run
Resistance is the figure that matters, and it hints at which gauge the data describes. Read as the resistance of each conductor, as the label suggests, 0.0194 Ω per metre corresponds to roughly 0.9 mm² of copper, close to 18 gauge, so the figures most likely belong to the thinnest version. Taken at face value, they put the roughly 4 m from a boot amplifier to a front door at about 0.155 Ω for the pair: a level loss of about 0.33 dB into 4 Ω and 0.65 dB into 2 Ω.
The other two figures describe a well-behaved cable. Over the same 4 m, 49.38 pF per metre adds up to about 200 pF, far too little to trouble a car amplifier. The inductance totals 5 µH, which at 20 kHz acts like roughly 0.6 Ω in series and trims the top octave of a 4 Ω tweeter by up to about a tenth of a decibel beyond the resistive loss.
Which gauge for which job
18 gauge (₹34,990): coaxial or component upgrades in factory locations, on head-unit power or a small amplifier into 4 Ω.
16 gauge (₹59,990): amplified front stages and rear fill with the amplifier in the boot; if it follows AWG, a 4 m run loses roughly 0.22 dB into 4 Ω.
14 gauge (₹74,990): 2 Ω loads, active front stages and subwoofers on moderate power, such as a Zapco REF 150.4 rated at 4 x 230 W into 2 Ω or a JL Audio VX600/6i at 6 x 100 W into 2 Ω; on the same basis, roughly 0.14 dB over 4 m into 4 Ω.
For a high-power subwoofer monoblock at 1 or 2 Ω, the 2.5 mm² Special 2.5 is the heavier option. Losses this small spread almost evenly across the audio band, so a thicker gauge reduces the level loss without audibly changing the tone.
What owners and reviewers say about the Tchernov Supreme MK2 speaker wire
We found no owner feedback on this wire: our October 2026 search turned up no owner reviews, forum discussions or press tests of the Supreme MK2, and with no page on Tchernov's site, there isn't even official marketing to report. Beyond shop listings, including our own, the 2026 Indian catalogue's specification list is the only published information we found.
This assessment therefore rests on those figures and basic electrical arithmetic, not on anyone's listening. If you've used it, we'd welcome your notes on which gauge you chose and how it has held up.
Who it suits, and when another rung fits better
Buy the Supreme MK2 if you want Tchernov wire without committing to a 180 m or 280 m reel, want to match the gauge to each job, and value published figures over official documentation. Mixed systems gain most: an 18-gauge spool for the speakers and a 14-gauge spool for the amplified runs cost ₹1,09,980 together, less than one Special 2.5 spool.
Look at the other rungs if you want a cable that Tchernov documents on its own website, with its construction and country of origin stated. The Special 2.5 is the stronger choice for heavy subwoofer runs, and the Standard 1.0's 3 x 6 mm profile is a little slimmer than the Supreme's quoted 4 x 8 mm, which may matter in a tight door boot.
Installation notes for Indian cars
All three gauges share the same matt dark red jacket, so if you mix them in one car, label each run by gauge at both ends. The colour also stands out from black factory looms, so runs are easy to trace later. If the quoted 4 x 8 mm applies to your gauge, test-fit it through the door gaiter first, usually the tightest point on the route.
OFC describes purity inside the conductor; it doesn't stop exposed strands tarnishing in humid air. Crimp ferrules or ring terminals onto the ends and seal them with heat-shrink, keep runs off boot panels above the exhaust, and secure the cable wherever rough roads could rub it against metal edges. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad can size the gauges and route the runs as part of an installation.
Price and where to buy
The 2026 Indian catalogue lists the Supreme MK2 speaker wire at ₹34,990 for 18 gauge, ₹59,990 for 16 gauge and ₹74,990 for 14 gauge, each on a 100 m spool. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, and our store supplies it as a genuine Tchernov Cable product. Each gauge has its own page:
Supreme MK2 18-gauge 100 m spool: ₹34,990 MRP
Supreme MK2 16-gauge 100 m spool: ₹59,990 MRP
Supreme MK2 14-gauge 100 m spool: ₹74,990 MRP
Final word
The Supreme MK2 tops our Tchernov speaker-wire ladder by name and alone publishes electrical figures, which describe a well-behaved OFC cable. It's also the cheapest way in and the most flexible on gauge. The catch is provenance: no official Tchernov page, no stated origin, figures not tied to a gauge and no reviews that we could find. If you can accept that, it's sensible wire at a sensible price.
Tchernov Supreme MK2 speaker wire FAQ
Is the Tchernov Supreme MK2 speaker wire an official Tchernov product?
It appears in the 2026 Indian Tchernov catalogue, and our store sells it as a genuine Tchernov Cable product, but Tchernov's official website doesn't list a Supreme series. It may be a line made for the Indian market, so ask us to check its origin with the distributor if that matters to you.
Which gauge should I choose?
Choose 18 gauge for speakers on head-unit power or a small amplifier, 16 gauge for amplified front stages fed from the boot, and 14 gauge for 2 Ω loads and subwoofers on moderate power. For a high-power monoblock, the 2.5 mm² Special 2.5 is the heavier option.
Is the Supreme MK2 better than the Special 2.5?
Not straightforwardly. The Special 2.5 has the thicker conductors, if the Supreme's gauges follow AWG, plus documented foamed-PE insulation, a damped jacket and an official Tchernov page; the Supreme MK2 offers 99.99% OFC, published electrical figures, a choice of gauge and a lower price per metre.
