Zapco ST-2000XM III Review: Planning a 2,000 W Multi-Subwoofer System
Updated: Oct 6
The Zapco ST-2000XM III is the biggest of Zapco's four Studio-XM III mono Class D bass amplifiers, rated at 1,000 W into 4 Ω, 1,450 W into 2 Ω and 2,000 W into 1 Ω. With an Indian MRP of ₹79,990 it tops the XM III range, and it suits multi-subwoofer systems in large SUVs and pickups, where the boot can take a big enclosure and the owner is ready to rework the charging system around it. Today's price is on our ST-2000XM III listing.

In brief
Even its 4 Ω rating is 1,000 W; the 2,000 W headline needs a 1 Ω load, such as four single-coil 4 Ω subs in parallel.
At 475 mm long overall, it needs a long, flat and well-ventilated mounting spot.
Flat out into 1 Ω it could draw over 160 A, so budget for charging upgrades too.
Zapco's site also lists an ST-2000XM III LE, a different model. We found no verified reviews of this standard version.

Who really needs 2,000 W
Very few daily drivers do. Most of the JL 12-inch subwoofers we sell are rated between 300 W and 600 W, with the 1,000 W 12W7AE-3 the exception, so the ST-1000XM III or ST-1500XM III covers one or two of them comfortably. This amp earns its place when you run three or four subs, want high output in a large cabin, or plan an SPL-leaning build.
Several subwoofers in parallel pull the impedance down to where the 2 Ω and 1 Ω ratings become usable; with a single sub in the 300–600 W class, most of this amp's power goes unused. Zapco also says two identical XM III amps can be strapped onto one voice coil to double the power, but a strapped pair of these costs ₹1,59,980 at MRP and the minimum strapped load isn't in our data, so talk to us first.
Three JL subwoofer systems that suit it
Four 12W3v3-4s at 1 Ω. JL's 12W3v3-4 is a single-coil 4 Ω driver rated at 500 W. Four in parallel make 1 Ω, and 2,000 W shared four ways is exactly 500 W each. The catch is space: JL recommends 31.8 litres sealed per driver, so roughly 127 litres of internal volume before you count the walls, which is SUV or pickup territory.
Two 12W6v3-D4s at 4 Ω. Wire each 12W6v3-D4's dual 4 Ω coils in series (8 Ω per sub) and the two subs in parallel, and the amp sees 4 Ω and delivers 1,000 W, about 500 W per sub against a 600 W rating. It is the gentlest way to use this amp and draws the least current of the three. The 10W6v3-D4 wires the same way for smaller boxes.
Two 12W7AE-3s at 1.5 Ω. JL's W7 Anniversary Edition 12W7AE-3 is a 3 Ω driver rated at 1,000 W. Two in parallel present 1.5 Ω; Zapco publishes no figure for that load, but output would be expected to land between the 2 Ω and 1 Ω ratings, roughly 725 to 1,000 W per sub. Each sub carries an MRP of ₹1,84,990, so this is a costly pairing.
The electrical bill for 2,000 W
At Zapco's quoted efficiency of more than 85%, full output on a test tone works out to roughly 80 A at 4 Ω, 120 A at 2 Ω and over 160 A at 1 Ω from a 14.4 V supply. Music averages much less, but many stock alternators have little to spare once the AC and lights are running. The ratings assume 14.4 V, so as voltage sags at idle, output falls too.
For a 1 Ω or 1.5 Ω system, plan on the Big 3 cable upgrade, heavy power and ground runs, and very likely a higher-output alternator or a second battery. A capacitor bank such as Zapco's 100-farad Z-CB100F can steady short dips, but it doesn't add charging capacity.
Owner and reviewer feedback on the Zapco ST-2000XM III
When we checked in October 2026, we couldn't find a single owner, retailer or press review of the standard ST-2000XM III that we could verify. Make sure anything you read is about this model rather than the separate LE version.
The nearest feedback concerns the previous generation. A CarAudio.com thread on the ST-XM II amps, including the ST-2000XM II, has posters calling them good amplifiers and crediting Zapco with a solid record for quality and design; one poster doubted whether the newer entry-level tier was as proven as the traditional premium lines. A Steve Meade Designs forum thread about dyno-testing the ST-1350XM II includes a comment that it came close to its rated output in only one of nine runs and fell well short in the others. We couldn't see the measurements, and neither thread covers this amp.
Treat the ratings as Zapco's claims, and its catalogue line about doubling your power with a second amp as promotional. If you run an ST-2000XM III, tell us how it has held up.
How it stacks up against the ST-1500XM III and JL's RD1500/1
The ST-1500XM III is the sibling to weigh most carefully. For ₹20,000 less it makes 800 W, 1,150 W and 1,600 W into 4, 2 and 1 Ω on Zapco's figures, so the ST-2000XM III adds 200 to 400 W depending on the load, roughly 1 dB more output. The bigger amp makes sense when you're running four subs at 1 Ω and want every watt, or need 1,000 W at 4 Ω for a conservatively wired pair of dual-coil subs.
JL's RD1500/1 (₹1,29,990 MRP) is rated at 1,500 W into 1–2 Ω and 750 W into 4 Ω. At 2 Ω the two are close, 1,500 W against 1,450 W, but the Zapco makes 250 W more at 4 Ω, reaches 2,000 W at 1 Ω and costs ₹50,000 less. JL's RBC-1 remote is extra; the Zapco's is included, per our listing.
The right buyer, and the wrong one
The right buyer owns a large SUV or pickup, wants three or four subwoofers or a pair of 1,000 W-class drivers, and has budgeted for the electrical work. For that person it delivers more watts per rupee than JL's JD and RD monoblocks.
The wrong buyer has one subwoofer, a hatchback, or a stock electrical system they don't want to touch. The ST-1000XM III or ST-1500XM III will do the same job at everyday volumes, cost less and ask less of the car.
Mounting a 475 mm amplifier in an Indian car
At 475 mm long and 160 mm wide, this amp needs a long, flat surface: an amp rack on the back of the rear seat, a false floor or a panel beside the sub enclosure. Leave space around the fins and keep it out of the sun through the rear glass, because the catalogue doesn't confirm a cooling fan for the XM III bass amps and a closed boot in summer gets extremely hot.
A 1 Ω build calls for 0 AWG cable on the main run, and Tchernov's 0 AWG power cable is one option. Match the ground cable to the power cable, fuse close to the battery, and follow Zapco's manual for fuse ratings, which aren't in our data. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad designs and installs high-power systems, including the charging upgrades a build like this needs.
Price and where to buy
The 2026 Indian catalogue puts the ST-2000XM III at an MRP of ₹79,990. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP; check the Zapco ST-2000XM III product page for today's figure. Every unit we sell is a genuine Zapco product, distributed in India by Supreme Audiotek Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi.
Final word
There is a lot of amplifier here for the money: 1,000 W even at 4 Ω, and 2,000 W for anyone who can present a 1 Ω load. It is also more amp than most cars need, and it demands real electrical work. Buy it for a planned multi-sub build in a big vehicle; for one or two subs, the ST-1500XM III gets within about 1 dB for ₹20,000 less.
Zapco ST-2000XM III FAQ
Is the Zapco ST-2000XM III the same as the ST-2000XM III LE?
No. Zapco lists the LE as a separate model. This review and our listing cover the standard ST-2000XM III, rated at 1,000 W into 4 Ω, 1,450 W into 2 Ω and 2,000 W into 1 Ω.
How many subwoofers can the ST-2000XM III drive?
As many as you can wire to a total load of 1 Ω or higher. Four single-coil 4 Ω subs in parallel make exactly 1 Ω, which suits JL's 500 W 12W3v3-4, while two dual 4 Ω subs can be wired to 4 Ω or 1 Ω.
What size power cable does it need?
Zapco's manual figures aren't in our data, so we confirm them at install. As a general guide, a 1 Ω build drawing well over 100 A at full power calls for 0 AWG power and ground cables and a fuse close to the battery.
