Alpine HDA-F60 Review: The Status Four-Channel and What Its Premium Buys

Updated: Oct 6

The Alpine HDA-F60 is the four-channel amplifier in Alpine's Status range, rated at 100 W RMS x 4 into 4 ohms, 150 W x 4 into 2 ohms and 300 W x 2 bridged, from a Class D chassis that also runs in three- or two-channel mode. Its Indian MRP is ₹76,999, the same as the Status HDA-M80 mono and ₹21,000 more than the R-Series R2-A60F, which carries identical power ratings. It suits owners building a Status front stage who want a four-channel with strong published figures and a chassis that matches the rest of the range. See the current offer on our Alpine HDA-F60 product page.

Figures are from Alpine UK's HDA-F60 page and match our listing. Alpine USA's 2022 launch release quoted 120 W x 4 at 4 ohms; the current UK page and our listing say 100 W, so that's the figure we use.

What 100 W per channel means in practice

A hundred watts into 4 ohms is a generous allowance for a component front stage and a pair of rear speakers, and several times what a head unit's built-in amplifier can deliver cleanly. The point isn't to play everything at full output; it's headroom, so peaks in the music don't push the amplifier into clipping. Match the gains to your speakers' RMS ratings with a test tone rather than by ear.

At 2 ohms the four channels rise to 150 W each, which suits 2-ohm speakers. Bridge the channels in pairs and you get 2 x 300 W into 4 ohms. In three-channel mode, a bridged pair could run a subwoofer: the Status HDZ-110, wired in series to 4 ohms, would get up to 300 W, inside its 400 W RMS rating. Bear in mind that the HDA-F60's 12 dB/oct low-pass is gentler than the 24 dB/oct filter on the sub channels of the HDA-V90 and the HDA-M80.

Build, filters and inputs

Alpine describes a Class D design using what it calls Sierra-H circuit technology, with a non-shutdown design, thermal protection and a copper-plated chassis. Power and speaker connectors sit on one side and the controls are under a top cover, so the wiring stays tidy in a tight space. Alpine also lists compatibility with the RUX-KNOB2 remote bass knob, which is most useful in the three-channel layout above.

The filters are basic: variable high-pass and low-pass from 50 to 400 Hz at 12 dB per octave, and no bass EQ is listed. That's enough for a passive component set with a sub elsewhere, but it isn't a tuning tool. If you want time alignment and proper EQ, put a processor such as the Status HDP-D90 or one of Alpine's PXE units in front of it.

Alpine UK lists RCA inputs with two sensitivity ranges. The OnlineCarStereo listing adds speaker-level inputs, a selectable two- or four-channel input and two 35 A fuses; Alpine's page doesn't mention these, so ask us to confirm before relying on them with a factory head unit.

What owners and reviewers say about the Alpine HDA-F60

When we checked in October 2026, the OnlineCarStereo listing had three customer reviews, dated 2024 and 2025, and all were positive. One owner described the sound as crisp and full and the installation as easy; another called it the best amplifier they have owned; the third said it made their speakers sound cleaner and crisper. Two of the three mentioned the price. Three reviews on one retailer's site is a small sample, and none is a measured test, but there's no dissent in it.

Alpine's 2022 launch release is promotional, and its 120 W rating differs from the current UK figure. We found no independent bench test or magazine review.

Alpine HDA-F60 vs R2-A60F and S2-A36F

The R-Series R2-A60F (₹55,999) has exactly the same power ratings: 100 W x 4 at 4 ohms, 150 W x 4 at 2 ohms and 300 W x 2 bridged. It also puts its speaker connections on one side and works with the RUX-KNOB.2, so neither of those is an HDA-F60 advantage. What the extra ₹21,000 buys, on paper, is lower quoted distortion (under 0.02% against 0.04% or less at 10 W into 4 ohms), a higher signal-to-noise figure at 1 W (more than 87 dB against more than 80 dB), a damping factor above 500 rather than 100, and response quoted to 60 kHz rather than 45 kHz.

The R2-A60F, for its part, lists band-pass and high-range filter modes up to 6 kHz that the HDA-F60's page doesn't, and it has a smaller 282 x 165 mm footprint. None of the sources we found tested whether the HDA-F60's better figures are audible in a car. The budget S2-A36F (₹35,999) gives 60 W x 4 at 4 ohms, 90 W x 4 at 2 ohms or 180 W x 2 bridged, enough for a modest front stage.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the HDA-F60 if you're building a Status system and want a four-channel that matches the HDA-V90 and HDA-M80 in size, with the best published noise and distortion figures of the Alpine four-channels we've compared here.

Look elsewhere if the same power for less matters more, where the R2-A60F is the rational buy; if you want band-pass filters for a simple active setup without a DSP; or if you want one amplifier for speakers and sub, where the HDA-V90 does both.

Installation notes for Indian cars

At 291 x 189.5 mm and 53.5 mm tall, the HDA-F60 fits under a front seat in some cars, or on a boot side panel or rear-seat back in others. Leave room to lift the top cover for gain and filter adjustments, and give it airflow, because a closed boot gets very hot in an Indian summer. Four channels at 100 W draw real current: follow Alpine's manual for the main fuse at the battery and the cable size, and use a clean earth. Long idling with the AC on pulls system voltage down, so a healthy battery matters.

Door speakers driven at this power need solid, damped doors to sound their best; our sound damping guide explains how. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation.

Alpine HDA-F60 - another view

The bottom line

The HDA-F60 is a well-specified four-channel with real power at both 4 and 2 ohms and the cleanest published figures among the Alpine four-channels compared here. Its problem is the R2-A60F, which matches its power for ₹21,000 less. Buy the HDA-F60 to complete a Status system or because those figures matter to you; buy the R2 if the same power for less is the priority.

Alpine HDA-F60 FAQ

How much power does the Alpine HDA-F60 make?

Alpine rates it at 100 W RMS x 4 into 4 ohms, 150 W x 4 into 2 ohms and 300 W x 2 bridged into 4 ohms, all at 14.4 V. It can run in four, three or two-channel mode.

What is the difference between the HDA-F60 and the R2-A60F?

Both are rated at 100 W x 4 into 4 ohms. The HDA-F60 costs ₹21,000 more and quotes lower distortion, a higher signal-to-noise figure and a higher damping factor; the R2-A60F lists more filter modes and is smaller.

Can the HDA-F60 run a subwoofer?

Yes. In three-channel mode a bridged pair gives 300 W into 4 ohms. Its low-pass filter is 12 dB per octave, gentler than the 24 dB per octave filters on the HDA-V90 and HDA-M80 sub channels.
