Updated: Oct 6

The Alpine S2-A36F is a compact Class D four-channel amplifier from Alpine's second-generation S-Series, rated at 60 W RMS × 4 into 4 Ω and 90 W RMS × 4 into 2 Ω at 14.4 V, and Hi-Res Audio certified. At an Indian MRP of ₹35,999, it sits between the entry-level BBX-F1200 and the R-Series R2-A60F among the Alpine four-channel amps we sell. It suits owners upgrading their door speakers, particularly those keeping a factory touchscreen, who want clean power without a big installation. See today's price on our Alpine S2-A36F product page.

Alpine S2-A36F S-Series Hi-Res 4-channel Class D car amplifier

  • A mid-bass EQ adds up to 12 dB at 100 Hz; the filters are 50–400 Hz high-pass or low-pass.

  • Speaker-level input and DC-offset turn-on suit factory head units, and the controls sit on the side under removable end caps.

  • Published owner feedback amounts to two moderated retailer reviews, both positive.

Figures come from Alpine's S2-A36F and S2-A55V owner's manual. Alpine India and Alpine Asia also list the response as 10 Hz – 30 kHz, while describing the amp as Hi-Res certified and able to reproduce up to 40 kHz; the table shows the specification figure.

Power and distortion: modest watts, very low THD

Sixty watts per channel into 4 Ω sounds modest next to the R2-A60F's 100 W, but it's a sensible match for Alpine's own S-Series speakers. The S2-S65C components and S2-S65 coaxials are both rated at 80 W RMS, and the S2-S69 6x9s at 85 W RMS, so the amp drives them well within their limits.

What stands out on paper is distortion. Alpine quotes THD+N of 0.08% or less at full rated power into 4 Ω, and 0.1% or less at 90 W into 2 Ω, far below the 1% ceiling the CTA-2006 standard uses for its ratings. In other words, Alpine's rated watts are clean watts; just don't push past them, because clipping is what damages tweeters.

Bridging channels 3 and 4 gives 180 W into 4 Ω, enough for a modest subwoofer such as a dual 2 Ω S2-W10 wired in series. That's well short of the S2-W10's 600 W rating, though, so for real bass a dedicated mono such as the S2-A60M is the better route.

Mid-bass EQ and filters

The S2-A36F's distinctive feature is a mid-bass EQ that adds up to 12 dB at 100 Hz, the region where door speakers give a kick drum its punch. Alpine's manual lists it for this model only: the S2-A55V gets a 50 Hz bass EQ instead, and the R2-A60F's manual lists no EQ.

Use it with care. Every 3 dB of boost doubles the power demanded at that frequency, so the full 12 dB can run the amp out of headroom quickly, and in an untreated door it mostly excites rattles. Damp the doors first, then add a few decibels if the mid-bass still sounds thin. The filters are simple, high-pass or low-pass from 50 to 400 Hz at 12 dB per octave; with a subwoofer in the system, high-pass all four channels at around 80 Hz.

Built for factory head units and tight spaces

Many buyers at this price keep the car's factory touchscreen, and the S2-A36F handles that well. It accepts speaker-level signals through Alpine's Speaker-RCA conversion cable, sold separately, and its DC mode switches the amp on when it senses the DC offset on those speaker lines, so there's no remote turn-on wire to hunt for behind the dash. Alpine describes the turn-on circuit as a selectable three-position switch.

The sound controls sit on the side panels rather than the top, under removable end caps that also cover the connections. Wiring is light too: Alpine specifies 8 AWG (8 mm²) power cable for runs of up to 6.5 m and a main fuse of 40 A or more, which is easier to route through trim than the heavy cable a big amp needs.

What owners and reviewers say about the Alpine S2-A36F

There's very little published feedback on this amp. When we checked in October 2026, the only reviews we could read were two on OnlineCarStereo, dated March 2024 and October 2025.

Both are positive. One owner runs front and rear door speakers at 4 Ω and reports strong output without distortion from a compact chassis; the other praises clean sound with good dynamics and flexible setup options. OnlineCarStereo moderates reviews to remove unproven negative comments, so two favourable reviews are not a consensus, and Alpine's own pages are promotional. If you've fitted one, we'd welcome your experience.

S2-A36F vs R2-A60F, S2-A55V and BBX-F1200

The R2-A60F (₹55,999 MRP) offers 100 W × 4 into 4 Ω and crossover ranges reaching 6 kHz for active setups, but quotes higher distortion at rated power (0.5% against 0.08% into 4 Ω) and lists no EQ. The extra ₹20,000 of MRP mainly buys power and crossover flexibility.

The S2-A55V (₹47,999 MRP) adds a subwoofer channel of 200 W into 4 Ω or 300 W into 2 Ω, but its four main channels are rated at 40 W into 4 Ω, a third less than this amp. Pairing the S2-A36F with an S2-A60M mono costs ₹71,998 at MRP and gives more power on every channel than the S2-A55V. Below it, the BBX-F1200 (₹16,499 MRP) is the cheapest Alpine four-channel we sell.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the S2-A36F if you're fitting Alpine S-Series speakers, such as the S2-S65C up front and the S2-S65 or S2-S69 at the back, if you're keeping a factory head unit, or if you want a small amp that's easy to hide.

Look elsewhere if your speakers are rated at 100 W RMS or more, where the R2-A60F is the better match, or if you want a dedicated subwoofer channel in the same box, which points to the S2-A55V. Not sure you need an amplifier? Our guide to figuring out the need for an amplifier explains when one helps.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Alpine's manual warns that the amp produces considerable heat and asks for a mounting spot with free air circulation, such as the boot. At 220 × 210 mm it's small enough that under-seat mounting is tempting, and it can work in some cars with enough clearance and airflow, but check with us first, especially for a car that bakes in the sun all summer.

Fit the main fuse close to the battery, set gains with a test tone, damp the doors before reaching for the mid-bass EQ, and keep signal leads away from the power cable. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation, including factory head unit integration.

Price and where to buy

The Alpine S2-A36F carries an MRP of ₹35,999 in the Indian price list effective 1 June 2026. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current offer on the S2-A36F product page. Every unit we sell is a genuine Alpine product.

Alpine S2-A36F - another view

The bottom line

The S2-A36F makes the most of modest power: 60 W into 4 Ω at very low quoted distortion, a mid-bass EQ, factory-head-unit inputs and light 8 AWG wiring in a small chassis. It's a sensible partner for Alpine's 80 W S-Series speakers. Owner feedback is too thin to call, so buy it for its published specification and a careful installation.

Alpine S2-A36F FAQ

Is the Alpine S2-A36F powerful enough for door speakers?

For most door speakers, yes. It's rated at 60 W RMS per channel into 4 Ω, comfortably under the 80 W RMS rating of Alpine's S2-S65C and S2-S65, and at 90 W per channel into 2 Ω.

Can the S2-A36F work with a factory touchscreen?

Yes. Alpine's manual lists speaker-level input through its Speaker-RCA conversion cable, sold separately, and a DC mode that turns the amp on by sensing the head unit's DC offset, so no remote wire is needed.

What does the mid-bass EQ on the S2-A36F do?

It adds up to 12 dB of boost at 100 Hz, where door speakers deliver punch. Use small amounts: each 3 dB of boost doubles the power needed, and an untreated door may rattle before the speaker runs out of output.
