Updated: Oct 6

The Alpine S2-A55V is a Class D five-channel amplifier from Alpine's second-generation S-Series that powers four speakers and a subwoofer from one chassis: 40 W RMS × 4 plus 200 W RMS × 1 into 4 Ω, rising to 60 W × 4 plus 300 W × 1 into 2 Ω, all at 14.4 V. Its Indian MRP is ₹47,999, making it the more affordable of the two Alpine five-channel amplifiers we sell, below the Status HDA-V90. It suits owners who want a complete speaker-and-sub upgrade with one amp to fit and wire. Check today's price on our Alpine S2-A55V product page.

Figures come from Alpine's S2-A36F and S2-A55V owner's manual. Alpine India's page gives the main-channel response as 50 Hz – 30 kHz, alongside a Hi-Res claim of reproduction up to 40 kHz.

How the five channels split the power

Think of the S2-A55V as a four-channel amp and a small mono amp sharing one heat sink. Channels 1 to 4 deliver 40 W RMS each into 4 Ω, which suits most door speakers, and 60 W each into 2 Ω. Alpine quotes those ratings at very low distortion: 0.07% THD+N or less into 4 Ω and 0.1% or less into 2 Ω. Bridging pairs gives 120 W × 2 into 4 Ω if you'd rather run two bigger speakers.

The fifth channel is for bass, rated at 200 W into 4 Ω and 300 W into 2 Ω, with a damping factor Alpine quotes at over 750. That's enough for one sensibly matched subwoofer, not a pair of competition drivers. All of these figures assume 14.4 V; with the engine idling and the AC on, real output can be lower.

One detail in Alpine's figures matters for planning. For the main channels, Alpine lists only a high-pass filter, from 50 to 400 Hz, and quotes their response from 50 Hz. On those figures, it's an amp for a full system with a subwoofer rather than a full-range four-channel with a spare output.

Filters, bass EQ and factory hook-up

The sub channel's low-pass runs from 50 to 400 Hz at a steep 24 dB per octave, and the bass EQ adds up to 12 dB at 50 Hz. As with any boost, use it lightly: each 3 dB doubles the power asked, and the sub channel only has 300 W to give. Alpine's optional RUX-KNOB.2 remote adds a level control for the bass, which is the better tool for adjusting from song to song.

For cars keeping the factory touchscreen, the S2-A55V accepts speaker-level signals through Alpine's Speaker-RCA conversion cable, sold separately, and its DC mode switches the amp on by sensing the DC offset on those speaker lines. Alpine describes the turn-on circuit as a three-position switch, and the sound controls sit on the side panels rather than the top.

A complete Alpine system on one amp

A natural S-Series build is the S2-S65C components up front and S2-S65 coaxials at the back, both rated at 80 W RMS, so 40 W per channel keeps them well within their limits. For bass, the S2-W8D4 is rated at 300 W RMS; wire its two 4 Ω coils in parallel for 2 Ω and the sub channel's 300 W matches it exactly. A 10-inch S2-W10 also works at 2 Ω, though at 600 W RMS it's rated for twice what this channel delivers.

What owners and reviewers say about the Alpine S2-A55V

We found three reviews we could read when we checked in October 2026, all on OnlineCarStereo and dated November 2023 to May 2025.

All three are positive. One owner replaced an older Alpine amp and now runs four 6x8 speakers, tweeters and shallow dual-voice-coil subwoofers from it, and is very happy with the result. Another found it simple to install and says it cured the static, popping and feedback they had before. The third fitted it under a truck seat thanks to its compact size and reports enough power and cool running. OnlineCarStereo moderates reviews to remove unproven negative comments, so this is a small, favourable sample, and Alpine's own pages are promotional.

S2-A55V vs S2-A36F plus S2-A60M, and R2-A60F

The obvious alternative is two separate S-Series amps: the S2-A36F four-channel (60 W × 4 into 4 Ω) and the S2-A60M mono (600 W into 2 Ω). Together they cost ₹71,998 at MRP, ₹23,999 more than the S2-A55V, and give more power on every channel, but need two mounting spots and more wiring.

The R2-A60F (₹55,999 MRP) can run two speakers at 100 W each and bridge its other pair into a 4 Ω subwoofer at 300 W, but that leaves no channels for rear speakers. Above the S2-A55V sits the Status HDA-V90 five-channel at ₹89,999 MRP.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the S2-A55V if you want front speakers, rear speakers and a single subwoofer powered by one compact amp, you're keeping a factory head unit, or space in the boot is limited.

Look elsewhere if you want more than 300 W for bass or plan two big subwoofers, where a separate mono amp is the answer; if your door speakers need more than 60 W per channel; or if you want DSP tuning, which Alpine doesn't list for this amp, in which case read our article on the need for DSP in car audio systems.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Alpine's manual warns of considerable heat and asks for a mounting spot with free air circulation, such as the boot. The 302 × 210 mm chassis is compact for a five-channel, and one reviewer fitted it under a truck seat, but whether that works in your car depends on clearance and airflow; ask us before deciding, especially if the car sits in the sun.

Alpine specifies 4 AWG (21 mm²) power cable for runs of up to 10 m and a main fuse of 60 A or more; fit that fuse close to the battery. Set the main channels' high-pass and the sub's low-pass so they meet without a gap, gain-match with test tones, and keep the bass EQ low. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation, including factory head unit integration.

Price and where to buy

Alpine S2-A55V - another view

The bottom line

The S2-A55V is a sensible one-box system amp: four clean 40 W channels for door speakers, a sub channel rated up to 300 W, steep filtering, bass EQ and factory-head-unit inputs, all in a chassis that fits where two amps won't. It trades per-channel power for simplicity and cost. If that trade suits your car, it's an easy recommendation on paper; owner feedback is positive but too limited to lean on.

Alpine S2-A55V FAQ

Can the Alpine S2-A55V run four speakers and a subwoofer?

Yes, that's what it's designed for. Four channels deliver 40 W RMS each into 4 Ω, or 60 W into 2 Ω, for front and rear speakers, and the fifth channel delivers 200 W into 4 Ω or 300 W into 2 Ω for a subwoofer.

Which subwoofer suits the S2-A55V?

Alpine's S2-W8D4, rated at 300 W RMS, is an exact match: wire its two 4 Ω coils in parallel for 2 Ω, where the sub channel is rated at 300 W RMS. A 10-inch S2-W10D4 also works at 2 Ω, though it's rated for more than the channel provides.

Does the S2-A55V work with a factory head unit?

Yes. Alpine's manual lists speaker-level input through its Speaker-RCA conversion cable, sold separately, and a DC mode that switches the amp on by sensing the head unit's DC offset, so no remote wire is needed.
