Alpine HDZ-110 Review: The Status 11-Inch Sub, Box Sizes and Amp Pairing
Updated: Oct 6
The Alpine HDZ-110 is the 11-inch subwoofer from Alpine's Status range, built around a carbon-fibre-backed cone, a die-cast aluminium frame and dual 2-ohm voice coils, and rated at 400 W RMS (1,200 W peak). Its Indian MRP is ₹83,999, which makes it the second most expensive Alpine subwoofer we sell after the shallow RS-W12D4, and twice the price of the R2-W12. It suits buyers putting together a full Status system, or anyone who wants a sound-quality sub and has boot room for a 32-litre sealed box. You can check today's offer on our Alpine HDZ-110 product page.

Key takeaways
An 11-inch Status driver rated at 400 W RMS, with two 2-ohm coils that wire to 4 ohms (series) or 1 ohm (parallel), never 2 ohms.
Alpine publishes both box options: 32 litres sealed, or 40 litres ported with a 100 mm port 500 mm long.
The 196 mm mounting depth rules out slim under-seat or behind-seat boxes; that's the job of Alpine's RS shallow subs, which need less than half that depth.
We found no owner reviews or independent tests yet, so judge it on the published specs.

Figures come from Alpine UK's HDZ-110 page, with the box recommendations from Alpine Australia's product page, and they match our listing. Alpine USA's 2022 launch release quoted 800 W peak and a neodymium magnet instead; we've gone with the current product pages.
What the build tells you
Eleven inches is an unusual size, with one practical consequence: an off-the-shelf 10-inch or 12-inch box is unlikely to match the 251 mm cut-out without modification, so plan on a box made for this driver.
The cone is a carbon-fibre-backed composite on a double-gathered surround, which Alpine says keeps distortion down at high volume. The basket is die-cast aluminium rather than pressed steel, so it stays rigid, and the motor uses a ferrite magnet. The heavy-gauge screw terminals take bare speaker cable directly.
The published moving mass is a hefty 387.143 g, and a heavy cone needs genuine amplifier power to move it with authority. Alpine quotes sensitivity as 84 dB using a 2.83 V x 2 test signal, a different convention from the 1 W / 1 m figures many subwoofers use, so compare it with other subs carefully.
Box options and boot space in Indian cars
Alpine Australia recommends a 32-litre sealed enclosure, or a 40-litre ported box with a port 100 mm in diameter and 500 mm long. Box volumes are normally quoted as internal air space, so allow for the driver's displacement, bracing and wall thickness; the finished box will be noticeably bigger outside.
A sealed box is the usual choice for a sound-quality system: it's more compact and rolls off more gently at the bottom. The ported option gains output around its tuning frequency for the same power, but a half-metre port means a larger box still. Larger sedans and SUVs usually have the floor area for either. In a compact hatchback, even the sealed box takes a large share of the boot, so measure first, or ask us to check your car.
Wiring and amplifier pairing
With two 2-ohm coils, the HDZ-110 wires in series for 4 ohms or in parallel for 1 ohm. Alpine's guidance is up to 200 W RMS per 2-ohm channel, which adds up to the 400 W RMS rating, so look for a mono amplifier making around 400 W at whichever load you choose.
Within the Status family, the HDA-M80 mono amplifier is the obvious partner. Alpine UK rates it at 500 W into 4 ohms and 800 W into 2 ohms at 14.4 V and publishes no 1-ohm rating, so you'd wire the HDZ-110 in series and set the gain with care, since 500 W is more than the sub's rating. To run speakers and sub from one chassis, the five-channel HDA-V90 has a subwoofer channel; check its rating at your chosen load first.
Follow the amplifier maker's fuse and cable recommendations. A 400 W bass system draws real current, and Indian traffic means long spells at idle with the AC on, when voltage sags, so a healthy battery and a clean earth matter. Our guide on why a car system needs an amplifier covers the basics.
What owners and reviewers say about the Alpine HDZ-110
When we checked in October 2026, we found no owner reviews or independent tests of the HDZ-110. The US retailer listing we checked had no customer reviews posted, the forum threads we found were about other Status parts or couldn't be read, and the German test index we searched had no entry for it. We can't tell you what owners report, and we won't invent a consensus.
What exists is Alpine's own material, which is promotional. Alpine USA's 2022 Status launch release says the range brings engineering ideas from the flagship AlpineF#1Status system to a more accessible price, and lists the HDZ-110 with a hybrid carbon cone and die-cast frame. It quotes 800 W peak and a neodymium magnet, where the current UK and Australian pages say 1,200 W peak and ferrite. The RMS rating, the figure that matters for amplifier matching, is 400 W in every source.
If you own an HDZ-110, we'd like to hear how it performs in your car and which box you used.
Alpine HDZ-110 vs R2-W12 and the shallow RS subs
The Alpine R2-W12 costs half as much (₹41,999 MRP) and is rated at 750 W RMS. Its 84.5 dB sensitivity is measured at 1 W / 1 m, a different method from the HDZ-110's, so the two can't be compared directly. On paper, the R2-W12 offers a higher RMS rating (750 W against 400 W) at half the price; the HDZ-110's case rests on its Status build and on matching a Status system.
If space rather than budget is the problem, the RS-W10 (₹82,999) needs 81 mm of mounting depth and the RS-W12D4 (₹95,999) 81.7 mm, against 196 mm here, so they suit slim enclosures behind a seat or under a boot floor. And if you'd rather not build a box at all, the SS-SB10 is a ready-loaded 10-inch enclosure.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy the HDZ-110 if you're building a Status system and want the matching sub, you have room for a 32-litre sealed box, and you'll give it a proper mono amplifier. With a 400 W RMS rating, it suits a balanced system better than a bass-competition build.
Look elsewhere if your boot is small or you need a hidden install; if you want a higher power rating for less money, since the R2-W12 is rated at 750 W RMS at half the price; or if you want the reassurance of owner reviews, which we couldn't find for this model.
Installation notes for Indian cars
Build the box to Alpine's volumes and seal every joint, because a leaking sealed box loses its low end. Fix it firmly to the boot floor or proper anchor points: a box this size is a hazard under hard braking, and rough roads shake loose anything held only by hook-and-loop tape.
Mount the amplifier where it gets airflow, not under carpet, since a parked car's boot gets very hot in an Indian summer. Fuse the power cable close to the battery and use a clean earth point. Treating the boot lid and number-plate area cuts the rattles a big sub excites; our sound damping guide explains how. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation.
Price and where to buy
The Alpine HDZ-110 carries an MRP of ₹83,999 in the Indian price list effective 1 June 2026. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current offer on the HDZ-110 product page. Every unit we sell is a genuine Alpine product, and we're happy to help plan the box and amplifier before you order.

The bottom line
The HDZ-110 is a well-specified 11-inch sub with a carbon-fibre-backed cone, a die-cast frame and published sealed and ported box recommendations. It makes most sense as the bass end of a full Status system, driven by a mono amplifier at 4 ohms. It isn't the cheapest route to strong bass from Alpine, it needs real boot space, and we found no owner reviews for it. Build the box to Alpine's figures and pair it with the right amplifier.
Alpine HDZ-110 FAQ
What box size does the Alpine HDZ-110 need?
Alpine Australia recommends a 32-litre sealed enclosure, or a 40-litre ported box with a port 100 mm in diameter and 500 mm long. Allow extra space for the driver, bracing and wall thickness when you plan the outside dimensions.
Can the HDZ-110 be wired to 2 ohms?
No. Its two 2-ohm voice coils give either 4 ohms in series or 1 ohm in parallel. Choose an amplifier rated at the load you'll use; the Status HDA-M80 has no published 1-ohm rating, so it would run the sub in series at 4 ohms.
Does the HDZ-110 have to be used with a Status amplifier?
No. Any good mono amplifier that delivers around 400 W RMS at 4 ohms or 1 ohm will suit it. A Status amplifier simply matches the rest of a Status system in looks and branding.
