Updated: Oct 6

The Deaf Bonce ML-12S is a 12-inch Machete subwoofer driver with dual 2 Ω voice coils, a 300 W RMS (600 W max) rating and a published SPL figure of 88.9 dB. It shares its 1.75-inch copper voice coil and 10 mm Xmax with the 10-inch ML-10S, but on paper it plays louder for the same power and needs a considerably bigger box. Its Indian MRP is ₹13,990, the second-lowest of the Deaf Bonce subwoofers we list, and it suits sedan and SUV owners who want a 12-inch without paying for a big amplifier. The current offer is on our Deaf Bonce ML-12S product page.

Deaf Bonce ML-12S Machete 12-inch dual 2-ohm subwoofer driver

Quick summary

  • The same 300 W RMS, 1.75-inch coil and 10 mm Xmax as the ML-10S, with a 12-inch cone and an SPL figure 3 dB higher.

  • Its 41.6-litre Vas calls for a much larger enclosure than the 10-inch, and Deaf Bonce's product page lists no recommended box volumes.

  • Dual 2 Ω coils: one sub wired to 4 Ω suits the MLA-800, and a pair wired to 2 Ω suits the MLA-1000.

  • We found no published owner or press reviews to report, so the verdict rests on verified specifications.

What 88.9 dB means on a 300 W budget

Deaf Bonce labels the figure SPL without describing how it was measured, so treat it as a comparison between its own models rather than an absolute number. Within the family, the ML-12S is listed 3 dB above the ML-10S and 0.9 dB above the 500 W ML-12R. As a rule of thumb, 3 dB is the gain you would otherwise need twice the amplifier power to achieve.

That matters because the ML-12S is limited to 300 W RMS. On the same amplifier it should, on paper, play louder than its 10-inch sibling, so you get the benefit without stepping up to a larger amp. What it can't do is take more power: the 10 mm Xmax and 1.75-inch coil are the same modest hardware as the ML-10S.

Box size: what a 41.6-litre Vas implies

Deaf Bonce's ML-12S page lists no recommended enclosure volumes, and the manual PDF linked there wasn't readable for us; the page does give Thiele-Small parameters and a box-calculator link. Those parameters say this driver wants room. A Vas of 41.6 litres indicates a compliant suspension, about two and a half times the ML-10S's 16.2 litres, so forcing it into a box sized for a compact 10-inch would raise the in-box resonance and Q, giving boomier, less controlled bass.

With a Qts of 0.46 and an Fs of 35.7 Hz, both sealed and ported designs are possible. Sealed is the space-saver and keeps the bass tight; ported gives more output near its tuning frequency but grows larger still, and needs a subsonic filter to protect the 10 mm Xmax below tuning. Either way, design the box from these figures for your space.

Wiring and amplifier pairing

Like the ML-10S, the ML-12S has two 2 Ω coils. Series gives 4 Ω, parallel gives 1 Ω, and both coils should always be connected. A head unit alone won't drive it; our guide on why a car audio system needs an amplifier explains why.

For one sub, Deaf Bonce's MLA-800 wired to 4 Ω is the sensible match. Deaf Bonce rates it at 340 W RMS into 4 Ω at 14.4 V, a little above the ML-12S's 300 W, so set the gain with a test tone rather than by ear. At 1 Ω the same amp makes 790 W, far too much for this driver.

For two subs, the MLA-1000 fits better. Deaf Bonce rates it at 680 W into 2 Ω, so a pair of ML-12S wired to 2 Ω, each in series and the two in parallel, would get about 340 W each. The MLA-800 at 2 Ω would give the pair about 270 W each, a conservative but usable match. These ratings are at 14.4 V, and a car idling in traffic with the AC running sits lower.

What owners and reviewers say about the Deaf Bonce ML-12S

When we checked in October 2026, we found no owner reviews, forum threads or magazine tests of the ML-12S that we could read and verify. Deaf Bonce's product page carries only specifications, and the marketplaces and forums we tried had nothing readable on this model. That is a gap in the evidence, not a sign of a problem.

We'd rather say so plainly than borrow praise written about other subs. If you run an ML-12S, tell us how it sounds and how it has held up; real owner feedback is the most useful thing we could add to this page.

ML-12S vs ML-10S, ML-12R and MF-12S

Against the ML-10S (₹12,990 MRP), the ML-12S trades a much bigger box for a higher SPL figure and a lower Fs (35.7 Hz against 39.7 Hz). Power handling is identical, so the choice comes down to boot space.

The ML-12R (₹17,990 MRP) is the next step: 500 W RMS, a 2-inch coil and 12 mm Xmax, with a near-identical Vas of 42.0 litres and an SPL figure of 88.0 dB. It needs a bigger amplifier but can use one. The MF-12S (₹23,990 MRP) moves to 800 W RMS, a 2.5-inch coil and 14 mm Xmax, with a 159.7 mm mounting depth against 128.5 mm. If you expect to upgrade the amplifier later, buying one of those now avoids replacing the sub as well.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the ML-12S if you have room for a properly sized 12-inch box, want more output than the ML-10S from the same class of amplifier, and value a low entry price. Sedans with deep boots and SUVs are its natural home.

Skip it if your boot is small, in which case the ML-10S fits more easily, or if you want to run serious power. At 300 W RMS and 10 mm Xmax it is a modest driver, and a large amplifier only invites damage.

Installation notes for Indian cars

The ML-12S needs a 278.0 mm cut-out and 128.5 mm of mounting depth, and its box will be bigger than most 10-inch enclosures. In a sedan, the usual spot is against the rear seat back. In a compact hatchback, a box sized for this driver can take a large share of the floor, so measure before deciding, and if your car carries a CNG cylinder in the boot, plan around it from the start.

Fix the box firmly to the boot floor, since a 12-inch enclosure becomes a hazard under hard braking. Treat the boot lid and parcel shelf, which tend to rattle once a 12-inch is playing; our damping guide explains how. Run a fused power cable from the battery and give the amplifier space to breathe in the boot's summer heat. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad can design the box, install the system and tune it.

Price and where to buy

The ML-12S has an MRP of ₹13,990. We often sell below MRP, so see the Machete ML-12S D2 listing for today's price; our listing describes it as a genuine Deaf Bonce product. Ask us if you'd like the box, amplifier and installation quoted together.

The bottom line

The ML-12S gives you 12-inch cone area and the highest published SPL figure of the three ML subs we sell, for ₹1,000 more than the ML-10S. In return it asks for a properly sized, fairly large box, and it keeps the 10-inch's modest 300 W limit. If the space is there, it's the one to choose of the two budget Machete subs; owner feedback, once it appears, will tell us more.

Deaf Bonce ML-12S FAQ

Is the Deaf Bonce ML-12S louder than the ML-10S?

On paper, yes. Deaf Bonce lists an SPL of 88.9 dB for the ML-12S against 85.9 dB for the ML-10S, with the same 300 W RMS rating. It needs a much larger box to deliver that, because its Vas is 41.6 litres against 16.2.

What amplifier suits the ML-12S?

For one sub, a mono amplifier such as the Deaf Bonce MLA-800, rated at 340 W RMS into 4 ohms, with the coils wired in series. For two subs wired to 2 ohms, the MLA-1000, rated at 680 W into 2 ohms, is a good fit.

Is there a 4-ohm version of the ML-12S?

Deaf Bonce lists only the dual 2-ohm ML-12S D2, and that is the version we sell. Wiring its two coils in series gives a 4-ohm load, so a separate 4-ohm model isn't needed for a 4-ohm connection.
