Updated: Oct 6

The Deaf Bonce MLA-500.1XS is a compact mono Class D subwoofer amplifier from the Machete MLA XS series, rated at 500 W RMS into 1 Ω, 360 W into 2 Ω and 200 W into 4 Ω at 14.4 V, in a case measuring just 151 x 83 x 35 mm. Its India MRP is ₹27,990, more than several larger monoblocks of similar or greater power, such as the MFA-1.500 (₹23,990 MRP) and the MLA-800 (₹22,990 MRP). It suits a single subwoofer in a car where the amplifier has to vanish, under a seat or behind a trim panel. See the current price on our MLA-500.1XS product page.

Power, filter, damping, terminal and size figures come from Deaf Bonce's MLA-500.1XS product page and match our listing. The bass boost range, input sensitivity, phase switch and box contents come from the model's owner's manual.

What Deaf Bonce says, and what that means

Deaf Bonce's product page pitches the MLA-500.1XS at SPL enthusiasts who want serious bass in a space-saving footprint, and says it is optimised for stable operation at 1 Ω. That is marketing copy, not an independent test, but the published figures support the basic idea: a full 500 W at 1 Ω from a case that weighs 0.83 kg packed.

The manual fills in the practical details. It lists a 0°/180° phase switch, a bass boost centred on 45 Hz and a REMOTE input for a bass remote. In our view the phase switch helps when a boot-mounted subwoofer seems out of step with the front speakers, and the boost is best used sparingly. The box contents list a remote control alongside the amplifier, manual, warranty card and mounting kit, which is handy when the amplifier itself is hidden out of reach.

Hiding it: under seats and behind panels

The point of this amplifier is where you can put it. Under a front seat is the obvious spot in hatchbacks and compact sedans, where boot space is better spent on the subwoofer box. Check the seat's full travel and tilt so the rails never touch the case, keep clear of seat-belt and airbag wiring, and mount the amplifier on a bracket or board with a gap for air rather than wedging it into carpet.

Because the subwoofer usually sits in the boot, the speaker cable has to run back from the amplifier; plan that route along with the power cable. Pair it with the four-channel MLA-80.4XS, which shares its 151 x 83 x 35 mm size, and, depending on the car, an entire four-speaker-plus-subwoofer system may hide under the front seats.

Matching subwoofers and electrics

These pairings are our own arithmetic from published ratings, not Deaf Bonce recommendations. The Machete ML-12R in its dual 2 Ω version, coils in parallel, presents 1 Ω and is rated at 500 W RMS, an exact match for the amplifier's 1 Ω output. For small boots, the 8-inch MF-08S in dual 2 Ω form, wired to 1 Ω, receives 500 W against its 600 W rating. A 300 W ML-12S wired in series to 4 Ω would get 200 W, safe but underpowered.

Electrically this is the easiest MLA monoblock to live with. At 14.4 V, 500 W of output works out to roughly 35 A before losses, a fraction of the kilowatt-class models' draw. The 4 AWG power terminal is generous for the job. The manual places the fuse holder within 40 cm of the battery's positive terminal; size the fuse to the cable, and keep the ground short and on bare metal.

What owners and reviewers say about the Deaf Bonce MLA-500.1XS

When we checked in October 2026, we found no owner reviews, forum threads or independent tests of the MLA-500.1XS that we could read and verify. Deaf Bonce's product page carries specifications and the promotional description summarised above, the manual covers installation, and the marketplaces and car forums we tried were blocked to us or had nothing on this model.

So the only verdict on record is the manufacturer's own, which is promotional by nature. If you have one hidden in your car, we'd like to hear how it has held up, especially through summer heat under a seat.

MLA-500.1XS vs MFA-1.500, AAP-800.1D and MLA-800

The Machete MFA-1.500 (₹23,990 MRP) matches the 500 W rating at 1 Ω and 360 W at 2 Ω, adds a steeper 24 dB/oct low-pass filter, costs ₹4,000 less and, per its shared manual, also has a phase switch and a remote in the box, but its 161 x 152 x 55 mm case needs about twice the mounting area. The XS quotes higher figures for signal-to-noise ratio (100 dB against 88 dB) and damping factor (180 against 160).

The Apocalypse AAP-800.1D (₹23,990 MRP) costs ₹4,000 less than the XS and makes more power: 790 W at 1 Ω in a 160 x 135 x 64 mm case. The MLA-800 (₹22,990 MRP) also makes 790 W at 1 Ω but needs 325 x 216 mm of floor. If either fits, it gives you more power for less money; the XS earns its price mainly where nothing larger will go.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the MLA-500.1XS if you want one subwoofer of around 500 W, need the amplifier out of sight, and value the remote listed in the box for a hidden install.

Look elsewhere if you have room for a larger amplifier, where the MFA-1.500 or AAP-800.1D cost less, or if you plan to run more than one serious subwoofer.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Under-seat installs can collect dust and the occasional spilled drink, so mount the amplifier off the floor, on a board or bracket, and keep its terminals covered. Route the power cable through a factory grommet away from hot engine parts, and keep RCA leads apart from it.

Set the gain with a test tone, use the subsonic filter if your box is ported, and confirm the subwoofer's final impedance before connecting. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation and can build a custom subwoofer box.

Deaf Bonce MLA-500.1XS - another view

The bottom line

The MLA-500.1XS is a specialist: 500 W at 1 Ω, a phase switch and a remote listed in the box, in a case small enough to tuck into tight spots. Matched to a 500 W subwoofer such as the ML-12R, it makes a neat, invisible bass upgrade with modest electrical demands. If space isn't tight, cheaper and more powerful Deaf Bonce monoblocks exist; when it is, this is the one to look at.

Deaf Bonce MLA-500.1XS FAQ

Can the Deaf Bonce MLA-500.1XS go under a seat?

It may, depending on the car. At 151 x 83 x 35 mm it is small enough to consider for under-seat spaces. Check seat-rail clearance through the full travel, keep away from seat-belt and airbag wiring, and mount it on a bracket with room for air. Ask us for advice on your car first.

Which subwoofer suits the MLA-500.1XS?

On our own arithmetic from published ratings, a dual 2 Ω Machete ML-12R wired to 1 Ω is an exact match at 500 W RMS. For a small boot, a dual 2 Ω MF-08S at 1 Ω receives 500 W against its 600 W rating. These are our calculations, not Deaf Bonce recommendations.

Does the Deaf Bonce MLA-500.1XS include a bass remote?

The owner's manual lists a remote control in the box contents and describes a REMOTE input for a bass remote control. That should be useful when the amplifier is hidden out of reach.
