Deaf Bonce SA255 Review: A 15-Inch Apocalypse on 1,000 W, Dual 2 Ohm

Updated: Oct 6

The Deaf Bonce SA255 is the only 15-inch in the SA part of Deaf Bonce's Apocalypse range that we sell: a 381 mm driver rated at 1,000 W RMS (2,000 W max), with a 2.5-inch copper-wound dual 2-ohm voice coil, 15 mm of Xmax and a listed SPL of 87.5 dB. It carries an India MRP of ₹44,990, between the 12-inch SA252 and SA272, and far below the 2,800 W 15-inch 3015R. It makes most sense for owners of SUVs, MUVs and estates who want the low-end weight of a big cone without the electrical upheaval of a multi-kilowatt sub. Details and today's price are on our Deaf Bonce SA255 product page.

Deaf Bonce SA255 D2 15-inch Apocalypse subwoofer

Four things to know

  • A 15-inch paper cone on a moderate 1,000 W RMS rating, with a ferrite motor, foam surround and aluminium frame.

  • Its 87.5 dB listed SPL is the highest of the SA-series subs we sell.

  • A Qts of 0.55 and a Vas of 62.1 litres mean a large enclosure, whichever alignment you choose.

  • Dual 2-ohm coils give 1 or 4 ohms from one sub; you need two subs to reach 2 ohms.

Why a 15-inch on 1,000 W?

Further up, the Apocalypse subs we sell climb to 2,800 W ratings and beyond. The SA255 goes the other way, putting a large cone on the same 1,000 W rating as the 12-inch SA252. A bigger cone moves more air for each millimetre of travel, so it needs less excursion for the same output, and that's the appeal of a 15-inch at this power level.

The published numbers fit that picture. The SA252 lists 84.7 dB and the SA255 lists 87.5 dB, a 2.8 dB difference on paper. Treat it as a guide, not a promise; we found no independent measurements of either driver, and in-car output depends heavily on the box and cabin.

The box will be big

Deaf Bonce gives no recommended enclosure on its product page, so the box needs to be designed from the published data: an Fs of 32.86 Hz, a Qts of 0.55 and a Vas of 62.1 litres. Both of those last two figures push in the same direction. A large Vas means a large box for any given alignment, and for a given Vas, a Qts of 0.55 needs a bigger sealed box than a low-Qts driver to reach the same alignment.

Rule-of-thumb guides tend to steer drivers like this towards sealed boxes, and a ported design will usually be larger still once the port is counted. Model both before deciding, allow at least 187.9 mm of clear depth behind the baffle, and brace the panels, because a large flat panel resonates more readily than a small one.

Wiring the dual 2-ohm coils

One SA255 offers two loads: 4 ohms with the coils in series, or 1 ohm with them in parallel. There is no 2-ohm option from a single D2 sub.

With two SA255s you can reach 2 ohms, either by wiring each sub in series and joining the pair in parallel, or by wiring each in parallel and joining the pair in series. Always use both coils and keep the polarity the same throughout.

Amplifier choice and the voltage question

A single SA255 wants about 1,000 W RMS, and the published Atom figures show why the load matters. Deaf Bonce rates the Atom 1300.1 PRO at 1,300 W into 1 ohm, the load you get with the coils in parallel, which leaves headroom as long as the gain is set with care; the AAP-800.1D Atom Plus makes 790 W there. Wired in series for 4 ohms, those amplifiers fall to 490 W and 270 W, so with those two amplifiers a single sub belongs at 1 ohm. For two SA255s at 2 ohms, the Atom 3.5K PRO, rated at 2,200 W into 2 ohms, is the closest match.

Supply voltage matters as much as the badge: Deaf Bonce rates the same Atom 1300.1 PRO at 1,300 W into 1 ohm at 14.4 V but 1,020 W at 12 V. In Indian traffic, with the AC and fans running at idle, voltage can sag, so a healthy battery, correctly sized cable and good earth points pay off before any extra amplifier power does.

What owners and reviewers say about the Deaf Bonce SA255

When we checked in October 2026, we found no owner reviews, forum threads or independent tests of the SA255 that we could read. Deaf Bonce's page lists specifications only, and the major retailer and forum sites we tried were either closed to automated access or had nothing on this model. We'd rather tell you that plainly than stitch together a consensus that doesn't exist.

If an SA255 is already thumping in your SUV, let us know what box and amplifier you used, and we'll add verified owner feedback to this page.

SA255 against the Machete 15s and the 3015R

Our range has two cheaper Deaf Bonce 15-inch subs. The Machete MF-15S (₹26,990) is rated at 800 W RMS with 14 mm of Xmax and a steel frame. The MF-15R (₹29,990) is rated at 1,200 W RMS with a 3-inch CCAW coil and the same 15 mm Xmax as the SA255. On paper the MF-15R offers a higher rating for ₹15,000 less. Against the MF-15S, the SA255 lists a higher rating (1,000 W against 800 W) and an aluminium frame in place of steel; both use a 2.5-inch copper coil. Against the MF-15R, the materials difference on paper is a copper rather than CCAW coil, since the MF-15R's frame material isn't listed.

Above it sits the 3015R (₹1,29,990), a 15-inch rated at 2,800 W with a 3-inch coil and 19 mm of Xmax. It needs a far deeper box, at 258.5 mm against 187.9 mm, and an electrical system to match.

Who it suits, and who it doesn't

It suits SUV, MUV and estate owners who can spare the space for a large box and want a big cone's bass from a single sub on a mid-sized mono amplifier.

It doesn't suit hatchbacks and sedans where boot space matters day to day, buyers chasing the highest rating per rupee (the MF-15R wins there on paper), or anyone who needs a 2-ohm load from one sub.

Installation notes for Indian cars

The 358.0 mm cut-out and 187.9 mm depth set the minimum box size before you even think about internal volume, so measure the boot floor, the height to the parcel shelf or tonneau, and the tailgate opening first. Anchor the box to proper mounting points; a heavy enclosure must not be able to slide forward under braking.

A 15-inch sub will rattle number plates, tailgate trim and rear seat backs. Our guide to sound damping in a car covers where to start. VA3 Car Studio offers professional installation in Ghaziabad and can build a custom box once you've settled on a volume.

Price and where to buy

The Deaf Bonce SA255 D2 has an MRP of ₹44,990. We often sell below MRP, so see the current offer on our SA255 D2 store listing.

Deaf Bonce SA255 - another view

Final word

The SA255 is the big-cone, moderate-power choice among the Apocalypse subs we sell: a 15-inch cone, a 1,000 W rating and the highest listed SPL of the SA-series models. It needs a big box and a car with the space for one, and on paper the cheaper MF-15R matches or beats it on rating and Xmax. Buy it if you specifically want a 15-inch Apocalypse with a copper-wound coil and an aluminium frame, then design the enclosure carefully.

Deaf Bonce SA255 FAQ

How big a box does the Deaf Bonce SA255 need?

Deaf Bonce publishes no box volume on its product page, but with a Vas of 62.1 litres and a Qts of 0.55 the box will be large either way. Model it before building, and allow 187.9 mm of mounting depth and a 358.0 mm cut-out.

Can a single SA255 be wired to 2 ohms?

No. A single dual 2-ohm sub gives 4 ohms in series or 1 ohm in parallel. Two SA255s can be combined to present 2 ohms, or you would need a different coil version.

Is the SA255 louder than the 12-inch SA252?

On paper its listed SPL of 87.5 dB is higher than the SA252's 84.7 dB, and a 15-inch cone moves more air per millimetre of travel. Real output depends on the box, amplifier and car, and we found no independent tests that compare the two.
