Deaf Bonce SA252 Review: A Dual 1-Ohm 12-Inch Apocalypse at 1,000 W RMS
Updated: Oct 6
The Deaf Bonce SA252 is a 12-inch Apocalypse subwoofer rated at 1,000 W RMS (2,000 W max), built around a 2.5-inch copper-wound voice coil with 15 mm of Xmax, and the version we sell is the D1, with two 1-ohm coils. At an India MRP of ₹39,990 it is the most affordable 12-inch in the Apocalypse line-up we stock, below the SA272 and SA302. It suits someone who wants a hard-hitting 12-inch on a mid-sized mono amplifier, and who understands that the dual 1-ohm coils decide how it must be wired. You'll find the listing on our Deaf Bonce SA252 D1 product page.

At a glance
1,000 W RMS from a 12-inch paper cone, with a copper-wound 2.5-inch coil, a ferrite motor and an aluminium frame.
Dual 1-ohm coils mean a single sub wires to 2 ohms (series) or 0.5 ohms (parallel), nothing in between.
A low Qts of 0.36 and an Fs of 32.1 Hz, but no recommended box volume on Deaf Bonce's product page.
Honest caveat: the Machete MF-12R we sell is rated at 1,200 W for ₹12,000 less, so the SA252 is not the choice on rated watts or price.

Every figure above matches the D1 column on Deaf Bonce's official SA252 D1/D2 page, which we checked in October 2026. That page also lists a D2 version with slightly different parameters; our store listing is for the D1.
Living with dual 1-ohm coils
A dual voice coil sub has two coils sharing one cone and one magnet, and the coil impedance decides the loads you can build. With two 1-ohm coils there are only two sensible ways to wire a single SA252: in series for 2 ohms, or in parallel for 0.5 ohms. The 2-ohm option is the one most mono amplifiers can drive; 0.5 ohms is strictly for amplifiers whose maker rates them for it.
Where the D1 starts to make sense is with two subs. Wire each SA252 in series (2 ohms each), then connect the pair in parallel, and the amplifier sees 1 ohm. Whatever you do, connect both coils on every sub and keep the polarity consistent, or the coils will fight each other.
Box design from the published numbers
Deaf Bonce's product page doesn't print a recommended enclosure, so the box has to be designed from the driver data rather than looked up. The key inputs are an Fs of 32.1 Hz, a Qts of 0.36 and a Vas of 24.72 litres, along with the 15 mm Xmax that sets how hard the cone can be pushed before distortion climbs.
A Qts of 0.36 is the sort of figure rule-of-thumb guides associate with ported enclosures. Use modelling software, add the driver's displacement and the port's own volume to the internal size, and size the port generously to keep air noise down. Give the box at least 167.9 mm of clear depth behind the baffle, and make the baffle thick, because a 1,000 W driver will flex thin board.
Choosing an amplifier for the SA252
Target roughly 1,000 W RMS at the load you've wired, which for one SA252 normally means 2 ohms with the coils in series. That is where headline figures mislead. Deaf Bonce rates the Atom 1300.1 PRO at 1,300 W into 1 ohm but only 780 W into 2 ohms, while the Atom 1600.1 PRO makes 1,010 W into 2 ohms, the closer match. A pair of SA252s wired to 1 ohm suits the Atom 2000.1 PRO, rated at 2,000 W into 1 ohm. Every Atom we list is rated down to 1 ohm, not 0.5, so never wire a single SA252's coils in parallel to one.
At 14.4 V, 1,000 W of output means around 70 A before amplifier losses are added, so this is no longer a small-wire job. Use the cable size and fuse the amplifier maker specifies, keep the fuse within easy reach of the battery terminal, and earth the amplifier to clean bare metal with a short lead.
What owners and reviewers say about the Deaf Bonce SA252
We found no owner reviews or independent tests of the SA252 that we could read when we checked in October 2026. The official page shows specifications only, and the large retailer and forum sites we tried either blocked automated access or showed nothing useful. That doesn't prove there's no feedback out there, but we won't invent a verdict to fill the space.
If you own an SA252, we'd welcome your notes on the box, amplifier and car you use it in. Verified owner experiences will be added here.
How it compares: MF-12R, SA272 and SA2508
The comparison buyers should make first is with the Machete MF-12R (₹27,990 MRP). It is rated at 1,200 W RMS with a larger 3-inch coil, and it lists the same 15 mm Xmax and 30 mm mechanical excursion. Its coil is CCAW where the SA252's is copper, and it comes as D2 or D4 rather than D1. On paper, then, the MF-12R gives more rated power for ₹12,000 less, so the SA252 has to be chosen for other reasons, such as its dual 1-ohm option.
One step up, the SA272 (₹49,990) raises the rating to 1,500 W with a 2.75-inch coil and 18 mm of Xmax. It uses the same 279.3 mm cut-out, though it's deeper at 179.5 mm and wants a box designed for its own parameters. If space rules out any 12-inch, the 8-inch SA2508 costs ₹2,000 less.
Is the SA252 right for you?
It suits you if you want a 12-inch Apocalypse for a ported box, you'll run one sub at 2 ohms or two at 1 ohm, and your amplifier has the headroom to give it close to 1,000 W cleanly.
Think again if you're shopping purely on rated watts per rupee, where the MF-12R wins on paper, or if your amplifier wants a 1-ohm load from a single sub. That needs a D2 version, which Deaf Bonce lists but our store listing doesn't offer, so ask us before ordering.
Fitting it in an Indian car
A ported 12-inch box takes a real share of a sedan or hatchback boot, so measure the floor, the height under the parcel shelf and the boot opening before the box is built. Bolt or strap the enclosure down; the driver ships at 12.05 kg packed, a finished box weighs far more, and a loose one becomes a hazard under hard braking. Treat rattling trim with damping, as our sound damping guide describes. VA3 Car Studio offers professional installation in Ghaziabad and can build a custom enclosure to the volume you've modelled.
Price and where to buy
The Deaf Bonce SA252 D1 has an MRP of ₹39,990. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, and the current price is on our SA252 D1 store listing.

Verdict
The SA252 is a 12-inch with a copper-wound coil, an aluminium frame, 15 mm of Xmax and a Qts that points towards a ported box. Its weakness is positioning: a cheaper Machete sub in our own range carries a higher rating. Choose the SA252 when its dual 1-ohm wiring fits your amplifier plan, model the box from the published data, and don't buy it expecting owner reviews to guide the setup, because we couldn't find any.
Deaf Bonce SA252 FAQ
Can I run the Deaf Bonce SA252 at 2 ohms?
Yes. Wire the two 1-ohm voice coils in series and a single SA252 presents 2 ohms, which most mono amplifiers can drive. Wiring the coils in parallel gives 0.5 ohms, which only suits amplifiers rated for that load.
Is there a D2 version of the SA252?
Deaf Bonce's official page lists both D1 and D2 versions. Our store listing is for the D1 with dual 1-ohm coils, so ask us before ordering if your wiring plan needs the D2.
Should the SA252 go in a sealed or ported box?
Deaf Bonce gives no recommended box on its product page. With a Qts of 0.36 and an Fs of 32.1 Hz it is the kind of driver usually modelled in a ported box, but design it from the published Vas of 24.72 litres before you build.
