Grand Vitara Stealthbox Review: Hidden Bass in a Hybrid SUV's Boot

Updated: Oct 6

The Grand Vitara Stealthbox is a JL Audio subwoofer enclosure made for the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, listed in the 2026 Indian catalogue at an MRP of ₹37,490 and designed as a fibreglass pod for the side panels of the boot. It shares the lowest price in the Stealthbox range with the Fortuner, Jimny and Thar listings, and costs less than half the Creta version. The catalogue prints only the vehicle name and the price, so this post covers where the pod sits, why the Grand Vitara's hybrid powertrains affect how you power it, and what to confirm first. It suits owners who want deeper bass without losing the main boot floor. Our JL Audio Stealthbox for Suzuki Grand Vitara page has the current offer.

Quick take

  • A fibreglass side-panel pod, per our listing; the catalogue photo shows a single JL Audio subwoofer in a black moulded enclosure in the side of the boot.

  • MRP ₹37,490, with no part number, driver, power rating, enclosure volume or model year printed.

  • Our listing says this kind of pod usually protrudes only a couple of inches past the wheel well, leaving the main floor free.

  • Hybrid versions feed their 12 V systems differently from an ordinary car, so size the amplifier with care.

The rows above come from the 2026 Indian catalogue and our store listing. JL Audio is a Garmin brand, and its Stealthbox range is presented on Garmin's Stealthbox audio page, but its vehicle list wasn't readable when we checked, so there are no manufacturer figures for this unit to set against ours.

Side pods in a hybrid SUV's boot

A Stealthbox is an enclosure built around one vehicle, filling a void in its trim so the subwoofer doesn't need floor space. Our listing describes the Grand Vitara version as a custom fibreglass pod made to integrate with the luggage side panels, and its information section explains the method: a fabricator uses the factory side-panel shape to mould a cavity on the left or right, which usually sticks out only a couple of inches (around 50 mm) past the wheel well.

That matters more in this car than most. On strong-hybrid versions the hybrid battery is packaged under the boot floor, so the space below the floor is already taken, and CNG versions carry their cylinder in the boot area too. The side walls are what's left, which is exactly where the catalogue photo shows a black moulded enclosure with a single JL sub.

One name, several cars: confirm your model

Maruti Suzuki has used the Grand Vitara name before, on an older imported SUV, and the current model is sold in mild-hybrid, strong-hybrid and CNG forms. The catalogue names none of these, and the research behind this post could only presume it means the current model. Boot trim can differ between versions, so the year and powertrain decide whether a given pod fits.

Toyota's Urban Cruiser Hyryder shares much of the Grand Vitara's body, which raises the obvious question. The catalogue lists this enclosure for the Grand Vitara only, so don't assume it transfers. Send us your model year, powertrain and which side you'd prefer, and we'll confirm the exact driver, the amplifier pairing and the fit for your vehicle before anything is ordered.

Powering a sub in a hybrid

A strong hybrid has no conventional alternator: a DC-DC converter fed by the hybrid battery keeps the 12 V system charged. Mild-hybrid versions use an integrated starter generator and switch the engine off at idle. Either way, the amplifier runs from a 12 V supply with finite capacity, and anything with orange high-voltage cabling is strictly off limits.

That makes efficiency and sensible sizing the priorities. The JL Audio XDM600/1 is a Class D mono amplifier that our listing describes as more than 80% efficient, with thermal rollback protection and a 50 A fuse rating. JL rates it at 400 W at 4 Ω and 600 W at 2 Ω on a 14.4 V supply, but 300 W and 500 W at 12.5 V, a useful reminder that supply voltage sets real output. The HD RBC-1, sold separately for HD and XDM amplifiers, adds a remote bass level control.

For a lighter load, the JD500/1 is rated at 250 W at 4 Ω on 14.4 V and 225 W at 12.5 V, and its inputs accept speaker-level signals from the factory head unit. Which one suits depends on the driver we confirm.

What owners and reviewers say about the Grand Vitara Stealthbox

Independent owner reviews of this exact enclosure are scarce: we found none we could verify when we checked in October 2026, and no press coverage either. So there's no owner verdict on fit, finish or bass to report, and we won't invent one.

What can be checked is the catalogue entry and photo, and our listing's description, which is a seller's text rather than independent feedback. If you've had one fitted to your Grand Vitara, particularly a strong hybrid, we'd like to hear how it fits the panel, how the electrical side has behaved and whether it has stayed rattle-free.

Against the Creta box and the alternatives

The Hyundai Creta Stealthbox is the obvious comparison, another compact SUV pod but listed at ₹79,990, more than twice this one, with nothing in the catalogue to explain the gap. The Grand Vitara's price matches the Fortuner and Jimny listings.

Outside the Stealthbox range, a powered enclosure removes the amplifier question entirely. JL's ACS112LG-TW1 combines a 12TW1-0.25 driver with a built-in amplifier rated at 400 W, at ₹1,09,990 MRP, but it occupies boot floor that a side pod leaves free. A custom pod with a shallow driver of your choice is the other route; our ESB 1.10SD4 review covers a shallow 10-inch option from another brand.

The right owner for it

It suits Grand Vitara owners who fill the boot with bags and prams, want the sub out of sight, and are happy to have the electrical side planned properly. Strong-hybrid owners in particular gain from a side pod, given how little room the battery leaves below the floor.

It's less suitable if you need a published spec sheet first, want maximum output from a big box, or are unwilling to wait while we confirm the fit for your exact version.

Installation notes for Indian Grand Vitaras

Expect the side trim to come out and the pod to be fixed to solid points, with felt tape where fibreglass meets plastic so it stays quiet over speed breakers. Plan the speaker and power runs along existing harness routes, well away from any hybrid high-voltage components.

Take power from the 12 V battery with a fuse close to it, use a clean ground, and check the supply voltage with the engine stopped at idle as well as running, since a mild hybrid's battery carries the load alone when idle stop cuts in. Keep the amplifier ventilated; a boot in a Delhi summer gets very hot. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad installs Stealthbox enclosures and amplifiers in hybrid and conventional cars alike, and we confirm the fit before the trim comes off.

Price and where to buy

The Grand Vitara Stealthbox carries an MRP of ₹37,490 in the 2026 Indian price list. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP; see today's offer on the Suzuki Grand Vitara enclosure product page, and ask us to confirm the contents when you enquire. It's a 2026 Indian JL Audio catalogue item, and the JL products we supply are genuine.

The bottom line

In a Grand Vitara, the side panels are the natural home for a subwoofer, especially in a strong hybrid where the floor is already spoken for. This listing describes exactly that kind of pod, at the range's lowest MRP. The gaps are the driver, the contents and the exact versions it fits, so get those confirmed and pair it with an efficient amplifier sized for a hybrid's 12 V system.

Grand Vitara Stealthbox FAQ

Does the Grand Vitara Stealthbox fit the strong hybrid?

The catalogue doesn't say which versions it covers. Tell us whether yours is the mild hybrid, strong hybrid or CNG, along with the model year, and we'll confirm fitment before you order.

Is it safe to add an amplifier to a hybrid?

Yes, when it's sized sensibly and wired properly to the 12 V system. The high-voltage hybrid system, with its orange cabling, is never touched, and we check the 12 V supply before setting the amplifier up.

Will it fit a Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder?

The Hyryder shares much of its body with the Grand Vitara, but the catalogue lists this enclosure only for the Grand Vitara. Ask us before assuming it transfers, because trim and panel details can differ.
