JL Audio XDM600/1 Review: Compact 600 W Monoblock for Tight Installs
Updated: Oct 6
The JL Audio XDM600/1 is a compact Class D monoblock subwoofer amplifier rated at 400 W into 4 Ω and 600 W into 2 Ω, packed into a marine-badged aluminium chassis measuring just 217 x 180 x 52 mm. Its ₹89,990 MRP makes it the more affordable of the two XDM monoblocks in JL's 2026 Indian catalogue, below the XDM1000/1. It's aimed at owners who want to drive one good subwoofer properly without giving up boot space, especially in smaller cars where every litre counts. You can see the current offer on our XDM600/1 monoblock product page.

Quick summary
One channel: 400 W into 4 Ω or 600 W into 2 Ω at 14.4 V, with a minimum impedance of 2 Ω.
It shares the XDM400/4's footprint, small enough for many under-seat or side-panel locations.
A 12 or 24 dB/octave low-pass filter (50–500 Hz) and a switchable 30 Hz infrasonic filter cover the essentials of subwoofer control.
Owner feedback is limited and mixed: one positive review, and a 3.1 out of 5 retailer rating with no visible reviews behind it.

These figures come from JL Audio's XDM600/1 owner's manual, with power rated at less than 1% THD+N, and the 2026 Indian catalogue, whose 400 W and 600 W ratings agree. Our store listing quotes a signal-to-noise ratio of more than 87 dB; we have used the manual's more conservative figure of 83 dB.
One subwoofer, matched properly
A monoblock this size is built to do one job well: power a single subwoofer. The neatest JL match is the 10W6v3-D4. Its two 4 Ω voice coils wired in parallel present 2 Ω, where the XDM600/1 makes 600 W, exactly the sub's 600 W continuous rating. The 12-inch 12W6v3-D4 wires the same way if you have the room for its larger box.
A single 4 Ω driver gets 400 W. That suits the 500 W JL Audio 12W3v3-4 well, since running a sub a little below its rating leaves a safety margin when gains are set carefully. What you must not do is go below 2 Ω: JL gives that as the minimum impedance, so two dual-4 Ω subs wired down to 1 Ω are off the table.
The 12.5 V figures favour the lower load, too. At 2 Ω the amplifier still makes 500 W when the voltage sags, while at 4 Ω it falls to 300 W. If your car spends a lot of time idling in traffic with the AC running, that is a point in favour of a 2 Ω subwoofer.
Bass controls in plain terms
The low-pass filter sets where the subwoofer hands over to the door speakers, adjustable from 50 to 500 Hz, and you can choose a gentle 12 dB/octave slope or a steeper 24 dB/octave one. The steeper slope keeps voices and midbass out of the subwoofer, which helps the bass sound as if it comes from the front of the car rather than the boot.
The infrasonic filter cuts content below 30 Hz at 24 dB/octave. That matters most with a ported enclosure, where very deep notes can make the cone move excessively without adding much useful output. The control panel also offers a Car/Boat input filter mode and three turn-on modes. The catalogue lists an optional remote it calls the HD RBC-1 for HD and XDM amplifiers, though JL's own pages name the HD-RLC, or the water-resistant MHD-RLC, as the XDM remote; our HD RBC-1 article explains, and we'll confirm the right part before you order.
What owners and reviewers say about the JL Audio XDM600/1
Owner feedback is thin and doesn't add up to a consensus. When we checked in October 2026, OnlineCarStereo had a single owner review, dated June 2024. That owner found the amplifier surprisingly compact for its output, reported that it stayed cool after about half a day of driving, and called it reliable and a worthwhile buy. OnlineCarStereo moderates its reviews and may remove negative comments it considers unproven.
West Marine shows a noticeably lower 3.1 out of 5 customer rating, but the page displayed no review count and no review text, so we can't tell what lies behind the score. With one positive review and one unexplained middling rating, the honest summary is that there isn't enough evidence yet. If you own an XDM600/1, we'd like to hear how it has behaved in your car.
XDM600/1 vs RD1000/1, JD500/1 and XDM1000/1
The comparison that should make you pause is the JL Audio RD1000/1. Its MRP is ₹94,990, only ₹5,000 more, and it makes 600 W into 4 Ω and 1000 W into 2 Ω. The trade-offs are size, at 372 mm long against 217 mm, and the lack of a marine-grade badge. If your amplifier will sit in a dry boot with room to spare, the RD gives far more power for nearly the same money.
At the other end, the JD500/1 costs ₹35,990 MRP and makes 250 W into 4 Ω or 500 W into 2 Ω, enough for many single-sub systems. Above it, the XDM1000/1 raises the 2 Ω output to 1000 W in a 374 mm chassis for ₹1,29,990; its review explains a question mark over the 4 Ω rating.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Choose the XDM600/1 if space is tight and the amplifier has to hide under a seat or behind a panel, or if it will face damp or salty air. It's also a tidy partner for the XDM400/4 when you want a matched pair of compact amplifiers for speakers and one subwoofer.
Look elsewhere if you have the room for a longer amplifier and no need for marine-grade construction, because the RD1000/1 offers much more power for a small premium. And if you want a 1 Ω load, or two subwoofers that each need more than about 300 W, this isn't the amplifier for the job.
Installation notes for Indian cars
The compact chassis is the reason to buy this amplifier, so use it. In a hatchback or compact SUV, mounting it under the front passenger seat leaves the boot for the subwoofer box, and the 10W6v3-D4's recommended sealed box is only 15.57 litres. Check seat-rail clearance and keep the amplifier clear of anything that might trap heat; JL's thermal rollback protection is there to prevent shutdown, but airflow keeps it from being needed.
Fit the 50 A fuse close to the battery terminal, choose cable heavy enough for the run, and earth the amplifier to bare metal close by. Set the low-pass around 80 Hz as a starting point, switch the infrasonic filter on for ported boxes, set the input filter to Car and adjust the gain with a test tone rather than by ear. Price and where to buy
The JL Audio XDM600/1 lists at ₹89,990 MRP in the 2026 Indian catalogue. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP; see the latest price on our XDM600/1 product page. It's a genuine JL Audio product.

The bottom line
The XDM600/1 is a well-made answer to a specific problem: driving one subwoofer from an amplifier small enough to hide almost anywhere, with a housing built to resist corrosion. Matched with a 10W6v3-D4 at 2 Ω it is an exact fit. If size and corrosion resistance don't matter in your car, though, the RD1000/1's extra power for ₹5,000 more is hard to ignore.
JL Audio XDM600/1 FAQ
Can the JL Audio XDM600/1 run at 1 Ω?
No. JL's manual gives a minimum impedance of 2 Ω, where the amplifier makes its full 600 W at 14.4 V. Wire a dual-4 Ω subwoofer in parallel for 2 Ω, or use a single 4 Ω driver for 400 W.
Which JL subwoofer suits the XDM600/1?
The 10W6v3-D4 is the natural match: its dual 4 Ω coils wire to 2 Ω, where the amplifier's 600 W equals the sub's 600 W rating. A 500 W 12W3v3-4 at 4 Ω, receiving 400 W, also works well.
Is there a remote bass control for the XDM600/1?
The 2026 Indian catalogue lists an HD RBC-1 remote for HD and XDM amplifiers, and the pictured amplifier has a remote port. JL's own pages name the HD-RLC or the water-resistant MHD-RLC as the XDM remote, so confirm the exact part with us before buying.
