Suzuki Jimny Stealthbox Review: A Corner-Pod Sub for a Narrow Off-Roader

Updated: Oct 6

The Suzuki Jimny Stealthbox is a moulded JL Audio subwoofer enclosure listed for the Jimny in the 2026 Indian catalogue at an MRP of ₹37,490, made to sit in a rear corner of the boot so the Jimny's small luggage floor stays clear. It shares that price with the Fortuner, Grand Vitara and Thar listings. The catalogue gives only the vehicle name and price, but this listing has a little more on record than its siblings: a catalogue photo of a ported corner pod, an owner's mention on Team-BHP, and a dealer listing that called it a fibreglass enclosure. It suits Jimny owners who want real bass without surrendering cargo space. Our JL Audio Stealthbox for Suzuki Jimny listing shows today's offer.

Key points

  • A corner pod for the Jimny's boot: the catalogue photo shows one JL Audio subwoofer in a grey-black moulded enclosure with louvre detailing and a round port.

  • Listed at ₹37,490 MRP, with no part number, driver, power rating or enclosure volume published.

  • Our listing describes high-strength fibreglass shaped to the Jimny's cabin; shoulder room for rear passengers is the fitment detail to check.

Sources are the 2026 Indian catalogue and our store listing. An Indian dealer listing we saw in search results in October 2026 also titled it a GRP (glass-reinforced plastic, meaning fibreglass) Stealthbox specific to the Jimny, though that page has since been removed. JL's Stealthbox range now sits on Garmin's Stealthbox page, whose vehicle list we couldn't read, so no manufacturer figures are available for this one.

Why a corner pod suits the Jimny

A Stealthbox is JL Audio's idea of a subwoofer enclosure that belongs to one vehicle: it's shaped to an unused space in that body, so the sub sits within the trim instead of on the floor. Few cars need that more than the Jimny, whose boot behind the rear seats is short and offers little floor to give up.

The Jimny's boxy body helps. Our listing's information section points out that its boot walls are very upright, so a pod moulded around the wheel arch can follow the plastic trim closely and leave the centre of the floor open for bags. The same section names the catch: the Jimny is narrow, so the enclosure has to stay as shallow as possible or it eats into the rear passengers' shoulder room.

Reading the catalogue photo: a ported pod

The catalogue's Jimny photo shows a single JL sub in a grey-black corner enclosure with louvres and a round port near the bottom. A port uses a tuned column of air to reinforce output around a chosen frequency, so a compact ported box can play louder in its working range than a sealed box of similar size. The trade-off is looser control below that tuning point, and a port that's too small for the job can chuff at high volume.

Treat the photo as a guide to form, not a specification. We can't confirm from the catalogue that the Indian product is ported, what it's tuned to, or which driver it carries. If it is ported, keep the opening clear: a bag jammed against a port changes how the box behaves.

Before you order: the Jimny checklist

  • What's in the box: an empty enclosure or a loaded one, and if loaded, the driver's model, size, power rating and impedance.

  • Which Jimny: the five-door that Maruti Suzuki sells here, or an imported three-door; the catalogue names neither.

  • Which side: left or right corner, and what the pod does to rear shoulder room on that side.

  • Seat clearance: whether the rear seatbacks still fold without touching the pod.

Send us those details and we'll pin down the driver, the right amplifier and the fit for your Jimny's generation before any money changes hands.

Amplifier choices that suit a small SUV

A small-engined SUV has limited spare charging capacity at idle with the AC running, so an efficient Class D amplifier sized to the confirmed driver makes more sense than a big one. The JL Audio JD500/1 is a good fit for the brief: a Class D mono amplifier rated at 250 W at 4 Ω and 500 W at 2 Ω, measuring 242 × 190 × 53 mm, with inputs that accept line-level or speaker-level signals, so it can work from the factory head unit. The catalogue lists it as the JD500/1D.

If you're upgrading the doors too, the JD700/5 runs a whole system from one chassis, with 75 W × 4 plus a 180 W sub channel at 4 Ω and turn-on by remote lead, DC offset or signal sensing. Both work with JL's RBC-1 remote bass control, handy for trimming bass between a highway run and a trail.

What owners and reviewers say about the Suzuki Jimny Stealthbox

We found no verified owner reviews of this exact product when we checked in October 2026, and no press tests either. What does exist is thin but real. In a Team-BHP thread on Jimny audio upgrades, dated December 2024, an owner mentions fitting a Jimny-specific JL stealth box with a 10-inch Gladen driver rather than a JL one. It's a passing mention of a related build, not a review: there's nothing on bass quality, fit or boot space, and no supplier or price.

Together with the removed dealer listing, that suggests a Jimny-specific JL enclosure has been sold in India and that at least one owner fitted a 10-inch driver in it. It says nothing about how the product performs. If you run one, we'd value a few lines on the bass, any rattles off-road and how the rear passengers get on.

Jimny box, Thar box or a DIY shallow-sub pod

The other compact off-roader in the range, the Mahindra Thar Stealthbox, carries the same ₹37,490 MRP, but its catalogue photo shows a carpeted box on the floor rather than a moulded corner pod. For the Jimny, the corner-pod form in the photo is the better match to the car's tight boot.

The alternative is a driver of your choice in a fabricated pod. JL's 10TW1-4 is rated at 300 W RMS into 4 Ω and needs about 9.9 litres (0.35 cu ft) net sealed per the catalogue, at ₹45,990 MRP. The 8W3v3-4 handles 250 W at 4 Ω, needs 118 mm of mounting depth and about 8.5 litres sealed, at ₹39,990. Either driver alone carries a higher MRP than the whole Jimny listing, so confirm the listing's contents before comparing like with like.

When it makes sense, and when it doesn't

Choose it if your boot is already in daily use, you like the factory look, and you'd rather have tidy, sensible bass than a box that dominates the cargo area. It also suits owners who want the work done once, properly, rather than a loose box sliding around on trails.

Skip it if you need published specs before you spend, carry rear passengers on long trips and can't accept any loss of shoulder room on one side, or want competition-level output. A Jimny's small cabin helps bass, but a corner pod is still a compact enclosure.

Installation notes for Indian Jimnys

Off-road use is the real test. Corrugated tracks and broken village roads shake everything, so the pod needs firm fixing points and felt or foam tape wherever fibreglass meets plastic trim, or it will squeak and buzz. Keep the amplifier off the floor and away from where water could collect after a deep crossing, and route the power cable through a proper grommet rather than a door seal.

Dust finds its way into a Jimny's boot after a trail day, so choose an amplifier location you can reach and clean. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad fits Stealthbox enclosures and amplifiers, and we check clearances on your actual car before the trim comes off.

Price and where to buy

The 2026 Indian price list gives this Stealthbox an MRP of ₹37,490. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP; see the current figure on the Jimny Stealthbox product page, and ask us to confirm the contents when you enquire. It appears in the 2026 Indian JL Audio catalogue, and all JL products we sell are genuine.

The bottom line

For a narrow off-roader with a short boot, a moulded corner pod is the right idea, and the catalogue photo shows a sensible one. The listing's weak point is information: no driver, no volume, no generation. Get those confirmed, keep the pod shallow enough for rear passengers, and power it with a compact amplifier matched to the driver.

Suzuki Jimny Stealthbox FAQ

Does the Suzuki Jimny Stealthbox fit the five-door Jimny sold in India?

The catalogue doesn't name a generation or body style, only the word Jimny. Tell us your model year and whether it's the five-door Maruti Suzuki version, and we'll confirm fitment before you order.

Is the enclosure sealed or ported?

The catalogue photo shows louvres and a round port, which points to a ported design, but no enclosure specification is published. We'll confirm the design and the driver it uses for the unit you'd receive.

Will rear passengers lose shoulder room?

Possibly, on the side where the pod sits, because the Jimny's cabin is narrow. Our listing notes the enclosure must stay as shallow as possible for that reason, and we check the clearance in your car before fitting.
