Hertz MPBX 250 S2 Review: EISA-Winning 10-Inch Driver in a 160 mm Sealed Box

Updated: Oct 7

The Hertz MPBX 250 S2 is a sealed, ultra-shallow 10-inch subwoofer box from Hertz's Mille Pro range, built around the MPS 250 S2 driver that won EISA's In-Car Subwoofer award for 2022-2023. It is rated at 500 W continuous and 1,000 W peak into 2 ohms, and the box measures 531 x 361 x 160 mm. In India it carries an MRP of ₹59,990: the same as the 12-inch MPBX 300 S2, and ₹10,000 more than the bare MPS 250 driver. It suits small boots and anywhere a 12-inch box won't fit. Today's price is on our Hertz MPBX 250 S2 product page.

Hertz MPBX 250 S2 Mille Pro 10-inch ultra-shallow sealed subwoofer enclosure

At a glance

  • A factory-built sealed box: the award-winning 10-inch MPS 250 S2 in braced 15 mm wood with internal damping, a grille and a plug-in terminal.

  • A low profile: Hertz lists two heights for the box, 160 mm and 118 mm.

  • A fixed 2-ohm load that needs a 2-ohm-stable mono amplifier; Hertz doesn't list a sensitivity for the box.

  • Owner reviews are short and positive; the professional praise is for the bare driver, not the box.

The award-winning driver inside

The MPS 250 is Hertz's 10-inch Mille Pro shallow sub, and the S2 in this box is its 2-ohm version. Its own page lists 82.5 dB sensitivity, a six-layer 38 mm coil, 16.8 mm of Xmax and an 82.6 mm mounting depth. In its EISA award citation, published in August 2022, the jury credited that slim profile to the driver's precisely set parameters, the six-layer coil, Hertz's A.I.R. technology, an FEA-modelled magnet and a long-throw cone, and said it produced powerful, deep and accurate bass from very small boxes.

That praise is for the bare driver, not this box, but it shows what Hertz built the MPBX around.

The enclosure: braced, damped and ready to plug in

Hertz says the box is optimised for the MPS 250 S2. Its 15 mm walls are braced panel to panel, and internal sound-absorbing material, Hertz says, virtually increases the box volume while cutting resonances. Four Car Audio's listing gives the 118 mm figure as the height without the feet. If you built your own box instead, Hertz's recommended sealed design for the bare driver is 14.2 litres, either 386 x 352 x 160 mm or a flatter 615 x 352 x 110 mm.

The 2S² design gives you two ways to mount it. On the supplied feet, which carry hook-and-loop inserts, the cone faces the floor for what Hertz calls more low-frequency extension; facing up, it gives more punch and definition. Connections use the SSP plug-and-play terminal block, with ordinary push terminals as a backup, and the mesh grille's logo can be repositioned so it reads correctly when the box is reversed.

Powering the MPBX 250 S2

With a single 2-ohm coil, the load can't be changed, so plan on a mono amplifier rated for 2 ohms. The Hertz DP 1.500 delivers 500 W RMS at 2 ohms (14.4 V, 1% distortion), a straight match for the box's continuous rating, and it accepts the optional HRC 02 bass-level remote. Its 50–250 Hz low-pass filter covers the 70–80 Hz crossover Hertz suggests for the bare driver in a sealed box.

Two cautions. First, the driver's 82.5 dB rating is lower than the 84.5 dB of the 12-inch MPS 300 S2, so this box needs a capable amplifier to play loud. Second, Hertz's four-channel DP 4.400 and DP 4.300 need at least 4 ohms when bridged, so they can't drive it in that mode. If you're new to amplifiers, read our guide on why a car system needs one.

What owners and reviewers say about the Hertz MPBX 250 S2

Here is what we found when we checked in October 2026. There is no professional review of the box itself.

UK retailer Four Car Audio lists four ratings, with an overall score at the top of its scale; the three dated reviews, from April 2024 to May 2026, are all top marks. One calls it a quality sub with excellent bass, another says the boxed sub looks and sounds superb, and a third praises it as fantastic, high-quality equipment. Each is only a few words long, with no detail about the car or amplifier.

The EISA verdict on the bare driver is the only expert opinion we found. Nobody reports a fault, but the sample is small; if you own one, we'd welcome your feedback.

MPBX 250 S2 vs MPBX 300 S2, MPS 250 and CBA 250

The MPBX 300 S2 costs the same and has the same power rating, but its 12-inch driver is rated at 84.5 dB and its box is 607 x 401 x 175 mm. If that fits, it should be the louder choice for the money; the 250 is for tighter spaces.

The bare MPS 250 (₹49,990 MRP), sold as the S2 or 4-ohm S4, saves ₹10,000 on paper, but you then need a well-built, airtight 14.2-litre box.

The Cento CBA 250 (₹49,990 MRP) is another flat 10-inch box, 440 x 334 x 158 mm, with its own 250 W amplifier and a high-level input. It shares the 2S² layout and SSP plug. Choose it to avoid a separate amplifier; choose the MPBX for twice the continuous power handling and the Mille Pro driver. The conventional MP 250 (₹39,990 MRP) handles 600 W but needs Hertz's 17-litre, 450 x 350 x 190 mm sealed box.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

It suits you if boot space is precious, a 12-inch box is too big, and you want a finished enclosure rather than a custom build. A 2-ohm-stable mono amplifier of about 500 W makes the most of it.

Skip it if the 12-inch MPBX 300 S2 fits, since it costs the same; if you want bass without adding an amplifier, where the CBA 250 makes more sense; or if your amplifier needs a 4-ohm load.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Cut a 531 x 361 mm piece of cardboard and lay it on the boot floor before ordering; it shows what room is left for luggage or a CNG tank. Secure it with straps or brackets even when it sits on the hook-and-loop feet, because potholes and speed breakers will move a loose box.

Keep the amplifier ventilated in summer heat and away from luggage, fuse the power cable close to the battery, and check your charging system if the car spends long periods idling with the AC running. Our sound damping guide covers rattling boot panels. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad can install the box and amplifier for you.

Hertz MPBX 250 S2 - another view

The bottom line

The MPBX 250 S2 puts an award-winning shallow driver in a finished, braced box that is only 160 mm tall. It saves building a box and the plug-in terminal makes removal simple, but it isn't cheap, it needs a strong 2-ohm amplifier, and the 12-inch version costs the same. Choose it when space, not budget, is the limit.

Hertz MPBX 250 S2 FAQ

What amplifier does the Hertz MPBX 250 S2 need?

A mono amplifier that is stable at 2 ohms, ideally delivering about 500 W RMS to match the box's continuous rating. Hertz's DP 1.500 makes 500 W RMS at 2 ohms and works with the HRC 02 remote level control.

Did the MPBX 250 S2 win an EISA award?

The award went to the MPS 250 S2/S4 driver, which won EISA's In-Car Subwoofer 2022-2023 title, and the MPBX 250 S2 contains the S2 version. The citation praises the driver, not this enclosure.

Should I choose the MPBX 250 S2 or the MPBX 300 S2?

Both cost the same and handle 500 W continuous. The 12-inch MPBX 300 S2 has the more sensitive driver and should play louder, while the MPBX 250 S2 needs less floor space. Measure your boot and pick the bigger one that fits.
