Updated: Oct 7

The Hertz MPS 250 is the 10-inch shallow subwoofer from Hertz's Mille Pro range and the winner of EISA's In-Car Subwoofer award for 2022-2023. It comes as the 2-ohm MPS 250 S2 or the 4-ohm MPS 250 S4, handles 500 W continuous and 1,000 W peak, mounts in 82.6 to 83.6 mm depending on version, and is designed for a sealed box of just 14.2 litres. Our listing covers both versions at an Indian MRP of ₹49,990, the same as the 12-inch MPS 300. It suits installs where both depth and volume are scarce: hatchback boots, false floors and custom boxes behind or under seats. Details and today's price are on our Hertz MPS 250 S2/S4 product page.

Built for very small boxes

For comparison, Hertz's conventional 10-inch CS 250 and MP 250 need 115 and 141 mm of mounting depth. The MPS 250 gets by with far less, and Hertz claims about 20% more cone excursion than traditional designs. It uses a non-vented rear, which Hertz says allows a shallower enclosure, and an A.I.R. design that Hertz says prevents air-compression-related limitations.

The voice coil is a six-layer 38 mm copper winding, chosen for heat capacity, in a die-cast aluminium chassis with spring-loaded 8 AWG terminals. A screw-less mesh grille comes in the box, which is useful because shallow subs often sit exposed on a boot floor.

S2 or S4: which version to buy

The S2 suits a mono amplifier that is stable at 2 ohms. Hertz's DP 1.500 makes 500 W RMS at 2 ohms, matching the driver's continuous rating exactly.

The S4 is the flexible one. On a DP 1.500 at 4 ohms it gets 280 W RMS. In a single-amplifier system, the DP 4.300 in three-channel mode is rated at 60 W x 2 for the front speakers plus 170 W bridged into a 4-ohm sub, with the DP 4.400 offering more. Two S4s in parallel present 2 ohms, which suits one DP 1.500. The S4 is also rated a decibel more sensitive, 83.5 dB against 82.5 dB.

Either way, at 82.5 to 83.5 dB the MPS 250 isn't efficient, so budget for real amplifier power. Our guide on why a car system needs an amplifier explains the basics.

Hertz's box recipes

Both versions use a 14.2-litre sealed box in 16 mm wood. Hertz lists it as 386 x 352 x 160 mm, and gives the S2 a flatter 615 x 352 x 110 mm alternative. In that box Hertz gives the S2 a resonance of 47.7 Hz and a Qtc of 0.68, and the S4 49 Hz and 0.81. Hertz suggests a 70–80 Hz low-pass with a 15 Hz subsonic filter.

Ported boxes trade size for more low-end output. The S2's is 17 litres tuned to 35 Hz, built 660 x 372 x 130 mm or 817 x 372 x 110 mm; the S4's is 19 litres tuned to 35.5 Hz, built 713 x 372 x 130 mm. For those, Hertz suggests a 60–70 Hz low-pass and a 20 Hz subsonic filter.

What owners and reviewers say about the Hertz MPS 250

This is what we found when we checked in October 2026.

The main expert verdict is EISA's. Its award citation for the MPS 250 S2/S4, published in August 2022 on Italy's ACS AudioCarStereo, says the driver delivers powerful, deep and accurate bass in exceptionally small boxes, starting from the suggested 14-litre sealed enclosure. The jury credits its 82.6 mm profile to precisely defined parameters, the six-layer coil, A.I.R. technology, an FEA-modelled magnet and a long-throw cone, and notes fast bass and extended low-frequency response in use. It is a short award text, not a published measurement test.

Owner feedback is thin. UK retailer Four Car Audio lists three ratings for the MPS 250 S2, two at the top mark and one a step below, dated February 2023 to December 2024; the only comment, a few words long, praises the bass. Its MPS 250 S4 page has two top-scale ratings without comments. Its page for the MPBX 250 S2, the S2 driver in Hertz's ready-made box, adds four ratings and short positive comments. If you run an MPS 250, tell us how it performs.

MPS 250 vs MPS 300, MPBX 250 S2, MP 250 and CS 250

The 12-inch MPS 300 costs the same and has the same power rating, with higher sensitivity (84.5 dB for the S2) but a 22.7-litre box and 88 to 89 mm of depth. If you have the space, it should be the louder option; the MPS 250 is for tighter spots.

The MPBX 250 S2 (₹59,990 MRP) puts the S2 in a braced, finished box 531 x 361 x 160 mm, which saves building one.

Two of Hertz's conventional 10-inch subs cost less but need more depth. The MP 250 (₹39,990 MRP) handles 600 W and needs 141 mm of mounting depth and a 17-litre sealed box. The Cento CS 250 (₹19,990 MRP) handles 300 W continuous, is rated at 84 dB, mounts in 115 mm and wants a 16-litre sealed box.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the MPS 250 if your space is both shallow and small, you are happy to commission a custom 14-litre box, and you want a driver with an expert award behind it.

Look elsewhere if the 12-inch MPS 300 fits, since it costs the same; if depth isn't a constraint, where the MP 250 or CS 250 costs less; or if you want a finished box, in which case choose the MPBX 250 S2.

Installation notes for Indian cars

A 14.2-litre box is small enough for a hatchback boot corner, or a custom enclosure beside the spare wheel or under a rear seat, but measure before you commit. Use 16 mm wood as Hertz specifies, seal every joint, and leave room for the terminals. Strap the box down for speed breakers, keep the amplifier ventilated through summer heat, and fuse the power cable at the battery. If the bass starts panels buzzing, our sound damping guide shows what to treat. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation of complete systems.

Price and where to buy

The Hertz MPS 250 has an MRP of ₹49,990 in our current Indian listing, covering both the S2 and the S4; tell us which impedance you need. See today's price on the MPS 250 S2/S4 product page. Every driver we sell is a genuine Hertz product.

Hertz MPS 250 - another view

The bottom line

The MPS 250 is a specialist part: a 10-inch sub engineered for very small, very shallow boxes, with an EISA award behind it. It costs more than Hertz's MP 250 and CS 250 and needs a capable amplifier and a carefully built box. Where space really is that tight, it deserves a place on the shortlist.

Hertz MPS 250 FAQ

Should I buy the Hertz MPS 250 S2 or S4?

Choose the S2 for a mono amplifier that is stable at 2 ohms, such as the DP 1.500 with 500 W RMS at 2 ohms. Choose the S4 for 4-ohm amplifiers, bridged four-channel amps, or a pair of subs wired to 2 ohms.

What box does the MPS 250 need?

Hertz recommends a 14.2-litre sealed box in 16 mm wood for both versions. Ported options are 17 litres tuned to 35 Hz for the S2 and 19 litres tuned to 35.5 Hz for the S4.

What award did the MPS 250 win?

The MPS 250 S2/S4 won EISA's In-Car Subwoofer award for 2022-2023. The jury praised powerful, deep and accurate bass from exceptionally small boxes and a space-saving 82.6 mm profile.
