Hertz X 690 Review: Uno's Four-Way 6x9 for Factory Replacements
Updated: Oct 7
The Hertz X 690 is a 6x9-inch four-way coaxial speaker from Hertz's entry-level Uno range, made for cars that use 6x9 speakers from the factory. Each one combines a pressed-paper woofer, a 40 mm PEI-dome tweeter and two 15 mm piezo super-tweeters, and Hertz rates it at 85 W continuous and 340 W peak into 4 Ω with 94 dB sensitivity. Its Indian MRP is ₹8,990, a step below the Dieci DCX 690.3. It suits owners replacing factory 6x9s who want more output and clarity on head-unit power or a small amplifier. Check today's price on our Hertz X 690 product page.

Quick summary
A 6x9 four-way coaxial rated at 85 W continuous into 4 Ω, with high 94 dB sensitivity.
Hertz quotes 45 Hz–22 kHz, deeper on paper than its own 6.5-inch Uno coaxial.
Efficient enough for factory head units; a 50 to 85 W per channel amplifier adds headroom.
We found no owner reviews of the X 690 itself.

Figures come from Hertz's official X 690 page and tech sheet, and they match our store listing. Hertz publishes no crossover details, and its drawing gives dimensions only as unlabelled letters, so we haven't quoted a mounting depth; ask us to check your car.
What the four drivers do
The woofer does most of the work. A 6x9 cone has more area than a 6.5-inch round one, and Hertz quotes a deeper 45 Hz low end for the X 690 against 60 Hz for its 6.5-inch X 165. The cone is metallic-grey pressed paper with a water-repellent treatment, on a high-sensitivity foam surround, driven by a 25 mm copper voice coil and an 80 mm ferrite magnet. Hertz says the faceplate is optimised for off-axis performance.
Above the woofer sits a 40 mm PEI-dome tweeter with a ferrite motor. Hertz describes the two 15 mm piezoelectric super-tweeters as extending the response above 20 kHz, which leaves the 40 mm dome to cover the audible treble below that. Most adults' hearing has tailed off by 20 kHz, so treat the piezos as a finishing touch rather than the main event. Hertz doesn't publish crossover details.
Factory head unit or amplifier?
With 94 dB sensitivity, the X 690 is efficient, so it makes good use of a factory head unit's modest power and needs little of it to reach a sensible volume. A head unit's amplifier still clips when pushed hard, though, and clipping is hard on tweeters.
An amplifier giving 50 to 85 W per channel suits its 85 W continuous rating. The Zapco ST-2B (₹10,990 MRP) is rated at 2 x 65 W into 4 Ω and lists an OEM speaker-level input for factory touchscreens. In a full system, the five-channel Zapco ST-5B (4 x 70 W plus 1 x 250 W into 4 Ω) can run front components, the X 690s at the rear and a subwoofer from one chassis. Keep rear levels a little below the front so the stereo image stays ahead of you, and high-pass the 6x9s around 80 Hz once a sub is fitted.
What owners and reviewers say about the Hertz X 690
When we checked in October 2026, we found no owner reviews of the X 690. UK retailer Four Car Audio sells it, but its X690 page had no customer reviews, and its description of the super-tweeters doesn't match Hertz's specification, so we've relied on Hertz's figures.
The nearest related feedback is thin. The same retailer's page for the X 165, the 6.5-inch Uno coaxial rather than this model, has a single top rating from October 2020 with no written comment, so it tells us nothing about sound. Hertz's own description, which calls the X 690 a four-way monster for fans seeking strong emotions, is promotional. If you've fitted a pair, we'd like to hear how they've worked in your car.
X 690 vs DCX 690.3 and JL C1-690x
The Dieci DCX 690.3 (₹10,990 MRP) takes a different route: a three-way design with a 60 mm paper midrange and a 15 mm PEI-dome super-tweeter, rated at 90 W continuous and 93 dB with a 45 Hz–21 kHz response. Power and sensitivity are close, so the choice comes down to the driver line-up and the price gap.
From JL Audio, the C1-690x (₹19,990 MRP) handles 60 W continuous, quotes 91.5 dB at 1 W/1 m and 39 Hz–22 kHz at ±3 dB, and uses a mineral-filled polypropylene cone with an aluminium-dome tweeter. JL states its measurement conditions and Hertz doesn't, so compare the response figures with care. If your car has round 6.5-inch openings instead, the Uno X 165 is the equivalent coaxial.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy the X 690 if your car has 6x9 openings, you want a straightforward upgrade over factory speakers that works on head-unit power, and you'd like the option of adding a small amplifier later.
Look elsewhere if you're building a sound-quality front stage; 6x9 coaxials usually serve as rear fill, and a component set such as the Uno K 165 belongs up front. Also wait if you want owner reviews first, because we couldn't find any.
Installation notes for Indian cars
First confirm that your car actually uses 6x9 speakers and where: rear parcel shelf or doors. Factory mounts vary, so adapter brackets are common, and because Hertz doesn't label the mounting depth, ask us to check the fit before you buy. Seal the speaker's frame to the shelf or door so the front and rear sound waves don't cancel each other's bass.
A parcel shelf under the rear glass bakes in direct sun, and foam surrounds generally tolerate long-term heat less well than rubber, so a sunshade or a grille that shades the cone is worthwhile. Damping the shelf or door panel stops buzzes; our sound damping guide explains how. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation.
Price and where to buy

The bottom line
The X 690 is an efficient, generously rated 6x9 for cars that have the openings for one: 94 dB sensitivity, 85 W continuous handling and a quoted 45 Hz low end at an entry-level MRP. Hertz says the piezo super-tweeters extend the response above 20 kHz, where most adults' hearing has tailed off, so don't buy it for them, and there are no owner reviews to lean on yet. As a factory replacement or rear fill on a budget, it makes sense.
Hertz X 690 FAQ
Will the Hertz X 690 work on a factory head unit?
Yes. Its 94 dB sensitivity makes good use of head-unit power. An amplifier giving 50 to 85 W per channel adds headroom for louder, cleaner playback without straining the tweeters.
What do the super-tweeters on the X 690 do?
According to Hertz, the two 15 mm piezoelectric super-tweeters extend the response above 20 kHz. That leaves the 40 mm PEI-dome tweeter to cover the audible treble below that.
Should I choose the X 690 or the DCX 690.3?
Both are 6x9 coaxials with similar power and sensitivity. The X 690 costs less and uses a 40 mm tweeter with two piezo super-tweeters; the DCX 690.3 is a three-way with a 60 mm midrange and a PEI super-tweeter.
