Updated: Oct 6

The JL Audio RD1000/1 is a Class D monoblock subwoofer amplifier rated at 600 W into 4 Ω, 800 W into 3 Ω and 1000 W into 2 Ω at 14.4 V, built around the NexD switching design printed on its panel. At ₹94,990 MRP it is the smaller of the two RD monoblocks in the 2026 Indian catalogue, ₹35,000 below the RD1500/1, and it suits drivers who want strong output for one or two subwoofers without the heavy electrical demands of a 1500 W amplifier. Today's offer is on our RD1000/1 monoblock product page.

JL Audio RD1000/1 monoblock Class D subwoofer amplifier

Key takeaways

  • Three published loads at 14.4 V: 600 W into 4 Ω, 800 W into 3 Ω and 1000 W into 2 Ω, with 2 Ω the minimum.

  • At 12.5 V, JL rates it at 500 W, 650 W and 800 W into the same loads, useful figures for a car idling in traffic.

  • An 80 A fuse and a 372 x 177 x 54 mm chassis keep the installation manageable in most SUVs and larger cars.

  • Four owner reviews and an independent dyno-test thread are positive, though the measured figures weren't accessible.

Figures come from JL Audio's RD1000/1 owner's manual, with power at less than 1% THD+N from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, and the 2026 Indian catalogue, which prints the 2 Ω and 4 Ω ratings. The 3 Ω and 12.5 V figures appear only in the manual.

Power at every load and voltage

Most buyers see the 1000 W headline, but the useful number depends on how your subwoofers are wired. At 2 Ω the RD1000/1 makes its full 1000 W; at 3 Ω, 800 W; at 4 Ω, 600 W. It isn't rated below 2 Ω, so it can't run the 1 Ω loads some multi-sub systems produce.

The 12.5 V column matters more in India than the brochure suggests. With the engine idling, the AC on and the headlights lit, the voltage reaching a boot-mounted amplifier can sit well below 14.4 V. JL's manual shows what to expect: 800 W into 2 Ω rather than 1000 W, and 500 W into 4 Ω rather than 600 W, between a sixth and a fifth less at each load. That fall is easy to live with, but worth remembering if you like to play loud while stuck in traffic.

Matching subwoofers to the RD1000/1

Three JL pairings line up neatly with the ratings. A single 13TW5v2-4, a shallow 600 W, 4 Ω driver, receives exactly 600 W at 4 Ω. The 3 Ω JL Audio 12W7AE-3 gets 800 W, comfortably inside its 1000 W rating. And two 4 Ω, 500 W 12W3v3-4 drivers wired in parallel present 2 Ω and receive 500 W each.

Avoid wiring a single 600 W, dual-4 Ω sub such as the 10W6v3-D4 to 2 Ω on this amplifier, since it would see up to 1000 W; that sub is a better match for a 600 W amplifier. Whatever you choose, set the gain with the clipping LED and a test tone, and keep the 45 Hz bass boost modest: it raises the amplifier's workload sharply at exactly the frequencies where subwoofers already demand the most power.

Inputs, controls and wiring

Differential-balanced RCA inputs accept 200 mV to 8 V RMS across two switchable ranges, so the RD1000/1 can take a wide spread of signal levels from head units and processors. Buffered pass-through outputs make it easy to feed a second amplifier, the 12 dB/octave low-pass is continuously variable from 50 to 500 Hz, and turn-on can come from a remote wire, signal sensing or DC offset. The optional RBC-1 remote adds a subwoofer level control near the driver.

JL recommends an 80 A fuse, a little over half the RD1500/1's 150 A, which makes the RD1000/1 far easier to accommodate on a healthy charging system. For the power cable, 4 AWG suits shorter runs, while a long battery-to-boot run in a big SUV justifies heavier cable; our Tchernov 4 AWG power cable review is a good starting point.

What owners and reviewers say about the JL Audio RD1000/1

When we checked in October 2026, OnlineCarStereo listed four owner reviews dated from November 2019 to July 2024. They report strong bass with their subwoofers, trust in JL's build quality and good value, and one owner noted better bass with 10-inch subwoofers. No complaints were recorded, but OnlineCarStereo moderates reviews and may remove negative comments it considers unproven.

The most interesting source is a January 2019 thread on the Steve Meade Designs forum, where the independent amplifier-testing lab Williston Audio Labs posted a dyno test of a B-stock unit it had bought. The tester called it a great performer and said no JL amplifier they had tested had disappointed them, and replies praised its build and manufacturing quality. Some replies preferred other brands, and a side debate about manufacturing in China included the view that quality depends on quality control. The measured figures are in a linked video we couldn't access, so we can't report them.

RD1000/1 vs JD1000/1, XDM1000/1 and RD1500/1

The closest rival is JL's own JD1000/1, which JL's manuals rate identically at both voltages (600 W, 800 W and 1000 W into 4, 3 and 2 Ω at 14.4 V), for ₹74,990 MRP, ₹20,000 less. On paper there is nothing to separate their power. Our listing adds buffered pass-through outputs and turn-on by remote wire, signal sensing or DC offset to the RD1000/1, which the JD1000/1 specifications we have don't list, so the decision comes down to whether you need those, plus price and appearance.

The marine-badged XDM1000/1 matches the 1000 W at 2 Ω in a chassis of almost identical size for ₹1,29,990, though the catalogue gives its 4 Ω output as 500 W and some retailers list 600 W. At the same ₹1,29,990, the RD1500/1 adds 1 Ω capability and 1500 W, but needs a 150 A circuit. For a single subwoofer in a dry boot, the RD1000/1 is the better-balanced choice.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

A good fit if you want 600 to 1000 W for one or two subwoofers, like the flexibility of a 3 Ω rating, and want an amplifier your car's electrics can support with sensible, not extreme, upgrades.

Not the one if you plan a 1 Ω multi-sub system, which needs the RD1500/1, or you need a marine-grade, corrosion-resistant amplifier. If the identical ratings of the cheaper JD1000/1 satisfy you and you don't need the RD's pass-through outputs or signal-sensing turn-on, there's little reason to pay more.

Installation notes for Indian cars

At 372 mm long, the RD1000/1 fits on the back of a rear seat, a boot side panel or an amplifier rack in most SUVs, and in some hatchbacks with a custom board. Give the slotted top room to breathe; a boot closed up under the summer sun gets very hot, and airflow helps any amplifier hold its output. The blue LED light bar suits a display install.

Keep the fuse within a short distance of the battery, earth to bare metal close to the amplifier and route the RCA cables away from the power lead. Check the battery and charging system first in older cars. VA3 Car Studio offers professional installation at our Ghaziabad studio.

Price and where to buy

The JL Audio RD1000/1 has an MRP of ₹94,990 in the 2026 Indian catalogue, and VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP; see the current price on our RD1000/1 product page. It's a genuine JL Audio product. The warranty described in JL's US manual, two years or three with authorised-dealer installation using JL's premium power connection system, is a US term, so ask us about cover in India.

The bottom line

The RD1000/1 is the sensible smaller of JL's two RD monoblocks in India: three useful load ratings, published 12.5 V figures, an 80 A circuit and positive feedback from owners and an independent tester. It can't do 1 Ω and the JD1000/1 matches it on paper for less, but as a well-documented 1000 W amplifier for one or two subwoofers it is easy to recommend.

JL Audio RD1000/1 FAQ

How much power does the JL Audio RD1000/1 make at 4 Ω?

JL rates it at 600 W into 4 Ω at 14.4 V and 500 W at 12.5 V. It makes 800 W into 3 Ω and its full 1000 W into 2 Ω, its minimum load.

Can the RD1000/1 run at 1 Ω?

No. Its ratings stop at 2 Ω, which is listed as the minimum impedance. For a 1 Ω system, JL's RD1500/1 is rated at 1500 W into loads between 1 and 2 Ω.

What fuse does the RD1000/1 need?

JL's manual recommends an 80 A fuse. Mount it close to the battery and choose power cable heavy enough for the length of the run, with 4 AWG suiting shorter runs.
