JL Audio XDM1000/1 Review: 1000 W at 2 Ω, and the 4 Ω Question
Updated: Oct 6
The JL Audio XDM1000/1 is the most powerful amplifier in JL's marine-badged XDM range: a Class D monoblock rated at 1000 W into 2 Ω, built into an aluminium chassis 374 mm long and just 52 mm tall. JL's 2026 Indian catalogue rates it at 500 W into 4 Ω, although several retailer listings quote 600 W, a discrepancy we explain below. At ₹1,29,990 MRP it is the most expensive XDM model, and it suits buyers who want serious subwoofer power from a slim amplifier built to resist corrosion. You can check today's price on our XDM1000/1 monoblock amplifier page.

The short version
1000 W into 2 Ω is the rating every source agrees on, and it is the load this amplifier is built around.
At 4 Ω the catalogue says 500 W while retailer listings, including ours, say 600 W; JL's manual wasn't available to settle it, so confirm with us before planning around the higher figure.
The slim 374 x 180 x 52 mm chassis carries a 12 or 24 dB/octave low-pass filter and a switchable 30 Hz infrasonic filter.
JL's RD1000/1 is rated for the same 1000 W into 2 Ω for ₹35,000 less, in an almost identical footprint.

The power ratings and MRP come from the 2026 Indian catalogue, and the remaining figures from our store listing and the control panel pictured in the catalogue. We could not retrieve JL's owner's manual for this model, so treat anything beyond the catalogue's figures as retailer information until we can confirm it.
The 4 Ω rating: 500 W or 600 W?
The catalogue prints 1 x 500 W at 4 Ω. Retailer listings from Creative Audio and OnlineCarStereo give 600 W at 4 Ω at 14.4 V, and so does our own product page. With no official manual to hand, we present the catalogue figure and flag the higher one. If you are planning a 4 Ω system around the exact number, ask us to confirm it before you buy.
In listening terms the gap is small. The difference between 500 W and 600 W works out to under 1 dB, which few people could hear. Where it matters is matching a subwoofer's power rating, and the simple answer is to choose a 4 Ω driver that is comfortable with either figure. The shallow 600 W JL Audio 13TW5v2-4 is one: it receives 500 W or 600 W depending on which rating is right, and both sit within its 600 W continuous rating.
Built around a 2 Ω load
There is no ambiguity at 2 Ω, where every source agrees on 1000 W, and the owner reviews we found report that it works well into a 2 Ω load. The cleanest JL pairing is two 12W3v3-4 subwoofers wired in parallel: two 4 Ω drivers present 2 Ω, and each receives 500 W, exactly its continuous rating. Our store listing also quotes 800 W into 2 Ω at 12.5 V, which would matter in slow traffic with the AC running, but like the 600 W figure we can't yet confirm it against JL's documentation.
No 1 Ω or 3 Ω rating is published. That rules out loads below 2 Ω, and it makes the 3 Ω 12W7AE-3 an awkward match. For that subwoofer, the RD1500/1 is the better fit, since JL rates it at 1000 W into 3 Ω.
What the control panel offers
A close-up in the catalogue shows the XDM1000/1's blue control panel. It has turn-on mode selection (remote, offset or signal), a Car/Boat input filter, the 30 Hz infrasonic filter, a low-pass switch with off, 12 dB and 24 dB settings, a frequency dial marked 50 to 500 Hz and an input sensitivity control. Left and right inputs sit alongside left and right pre-outs, useful for passing the signal on to another amplifier, plus the +12 V, ground and remote terminals.
The steeper 24 dB/octave slope helps keep midbass and vocals out of the subwoofer, so the bass stays anchored to the front of the car, and the infrasonic filter protects a ported subwoofer from deep notes it can't use. The store listing adds NexD switching rated at more than 80% efficiency, differential-balanced inputs and thermal rollback protection.
What owners and reviewers say about the JL Audio XDM1000/1
When we checked in October 2026, OnlineCarStereo had two owner reviews, dated March and June 2024. The owners praise plenty of power for high-wattage subwoofers, a slim chassis for the output, good behaviour into 2 Ω and a fair price for the power and quality. The one reservation was that the amplifier was heavier than expected, though that owner said it was acceptable. OnlineCarStereo moderates its reviews and may remove negative comments it considers unproven, so this is a small and possibly flattering sample.
Creative Audio's listing had no reviews yet. Beyond these two owners we found no independent tests or measurements, so the evidence for long-term reliability is thin. If you own an XDM1000/1, we'd be glad to hear how it has fared.
XDM1000/1 vs RD1000/1 and RD1500/1
The JL Audio RD1000/1 is the comparison to make first. JL rates it at 600 W into 4 Ω, 800 W into 3 Ω and 1000 W into 2 Ω, its chassis is almost the same size at 372 x 177 x 54 mm, and its MRP is ₹94,990, ₹35,000 less. Its listing highlights a 45 Hz bass boost and a clipping LED, and its low-pass is fixed at 12 dB/octave. The XDM earns its premium with marine-grade construction, the 24 dB/octave option and an infrasonic filter that the RD's published specs don't list.
For exactly the same ₹1,29,990 MRP, the RD1500/1 offers 1500 W into 1 or 2 Ω, though it is 458 mm long and needs a 150 A fuse. If your amplifier will live in a dry boot with room to spare, either RD gives more power per rupee. If you only need 600 W, the compact XDM600/1 saves ₹40,000 at MRP.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy the XDM1000/1 if you want 1000 W for a 2 Ω subwoofer load from a slim amplifier that can go where moisture or salty air are a concern, such as an open-top off-roader or a boat. It also suits installs where height is limited, since it is only 52 mm tall.
Look elsewhere if your plans depend on the 4 Ω rating being 600 W and you can't wait for confirmation, or if marine-grade construction isn't needed, because the RD1000/1 matches its 2 Ω power for much less. It also isn't the amplifier for 1 Ω systems.
Installation notes for Indian cars
At 374 mm long, it needs a proper mounting surface, typically a boot side panel, the back of a rear seat or an amplifier board, rather than a gap under a hatchback seat. One owner found it heavier than expected, so fix it securely: Indian roads punish loose mounting screws, and an amplifier that shifts can chafe its own cables.
Because we couldn't obtain JL's manual, we haven't quoted a fuse rating; use the figure in the manual supplied with the amplifier, and expect heavier power cable than a 600 W amplifier needs. A 1000 W amplifier working hard can draw more current than a small car's alternator supplies, so check the battery, earth and charging system before blaming the amplifier. Price and where to buy
The JL Audio XDM1000/1 has an MRP of ₹1,29,990 in the 2026 Indian catalogue. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, and you can see the current price on our XDM1000/1 product page. It's a genuine JL Audio product, and we'll confirm the 4 Ω rating for you before you order.

The bottom line
The XDM1000/1 delivers what matters most, 1000 W into 2 Ω, from a slim, corrosion-resistant chassis, and its owners like the power and the size. Its 4 Ω rating needs confirming, and on raw power per rupee the RD1000/1 and RD1500/1 beat it comfortably. Buy it when the marine-grade build genuinely matters to your installation.
JL Audio XDM1000/1 FAQ
How much power does the JL Audio XDM1000/1 make at 4 Ω?
The 2026 Indian catalogue rates it at 500 W into 4 Ω, while several retailer listings quote 600 W at 14.4 V. We couldn't obtain JL's manual to settle it, so ask us to confirm before choosing a 4 Ω subwoofer around the higher figure. The 1000 W rating at 2 Ω is consistent across sources.
Which subwoofers suit the XDM1000/1?
Two 4 Ω, 500 W subwoofers such as the 12W3v3-4, wired in parallel to 2 Ω, each take 500 W from the amplifier's 1000 W. A single 600 W, 4 Ω driver like the 13TW5v2-4 is a safe match whichever 4 Ω figure turns out to be correct.
Is the XDM1000/1 better than the RD1000/1?
Not on power: both are rated at 1000 W into 2 Ω, and the RD1000/1 costs ₹35,000 less at MRP. The XDM is the choice when you need its marine-grade, corrosion-resistant build or its 24 dB/octave filter option.
