JL Audio JD1000/1 Review: JL's 1,000 W JD Monoblock and the Subwoofers It Suits
Updated: Oct 6
The JL Audio JD1000/1 is the most powerful amplifier in JL's JD range: a Class D monoblock rated at 600 W into 4 Ω, 800 W into 3 Ω and 1,000 W into 2 Ω at 14.4 V, in a chassis just 290 x 190 x 53 mm. Its Indian MRP of ₹74,990 is about twice that of the JD500/1 and ₹20,000 below the RD1000/1, which JL rates identically. It suits one large, power-hungry subwoofer or a matched pair, in a car whose charging system can keep up. Today's offer is on our JD1000/1 monoblock amplifier page.

At a glance
600 W at 4 Ω rising to 1,000 W at 2 Ω, with JL's 12.5 V ratings of 500 W and 800 W showing what to expect when the voltage sags.
Its 3 Ω rating suits JL's 12W7AE-3, and its 4 Ω output matches the 13TW5v2-4's rating exactly.
JL specifies an 80 A fuse, and the only owner complaint we found concerns its current draw.
Same ratings as the RD1000/1 for ₹20,000 less; the RD's listing adds pass-through outputs and signal-sensing turn-on.

Figures are from JL's owner's manual for the JD monoblocks, a PDF hosted on a retailer-data site rather than by JL, plus our store listing and the 2026 Indian catalogue, whose printed figures match the 14.4 V ratings. The sources agree on every figure we've used.
Which JL subwoofers it suits, load by load
At 4 Ω it delivers 600 W, the exact rating of JL's 13TW5v2-4, a 13.5-inch thin-line driver only 67 mm deep that JL recommends solely in a 22.66-litre sealed box. That pairing makes serious bass from a slim enclosure where depth is scarce.
The 3 Ω rating suits the 12W7AE-3, JL's W7 Anniversary Edition 12-inch with a single 3 Ω coil and 1,000 W of thermal power handling. It receives 800 W at 14.4 V and 650 W at 12.5 V, enough to drive it hard while staying under its rating, from an amplifier costing less than half as much as the ₹1,84,990 driver.
At 2 Ω, two single-coil 4 Ω drivers in parallel share the full 1,000 W: a pair of 12W3v3-4 subs would get about 500 W each, exactly their rating. A dual-4 Ω driver with its coils in parallel also presents 2 Ω, but the 12W6v3-D4 and 10W6v3-D4 are rated at 600 W, so set the gain to the driver, not the amplifier. JL publishes no rating below 2 Ω.
What 1,000 W asks of your car's electrics
The only owner complaint we found is that the JD1000/1 needs a lot of current, and even that owner saw it as normal for the power. JL's 80 A fuse shows the scale: no amplifier is perfectly efficient, so 1,000 W of output means more than a kilowatt drawn from a 12 V system.
Music averages far below its peaks, so typical draw is lower, but plan around JL's 12.5 V ratings for stop-start traffic on a hot afternoon, when the AC compressor and radiator fan are working and the alternator is turning slowly.
Start with a healthy battery, size the power and earth cables for the fuse and the length of the run, and fit an inline fuse near the battery terminal. Many installers also upgrade the factory charging and earth leads at this power, the so-called Big 3. Our Tchernov 4 AWG power cable review covers a gauge often used for amplifiers in this class.
Filter, bass EQ and inputs
The 12 dB/octave low-pass filter is variable from 50 to 500 Hz, and the bass EQ adds up to 12 dB at 45 Hz. With 1,000 W available, go easy on that EQ: a big boost can push a subwoofer to its excursion limit before the amplifier clips.
JL's specifications list no subsonic filter, which matters in a ported box; take one from a DSP or head unit instead, as our guide to setting up a DSP in your car explains. The switchable RCA inputs include a speaker-level range (with an adapter lead), an LED clipping indicator ring helps set the gain, and the optional RBC-1 remote (₹6,990 MRP) trims bass level from the driver's seat.
What owners and reviewers say about the JL Audio JD1000/1
When we checked in October 2026, OnlineCarStereo carried five reviews of the JD1000/1 dated March 2021 to June 2025, with no overall average shown. Owners describe very clean sound (one says friends complimented the system), strong output for such a compact amplifier, easy installation and a clear improvement in subwoofer performance that has stayed reliable.
The single criticism is the current draw covered above. OnlineCarStereo says it moderates reviews and may remove unproven negative comments, so treat these five reviews as an encouraging sample, not a verdict.
We could verify no other review source for this model, and we have no independent bench test. If you own one, we'd like to hear how it performs in your car.
JD1000/1 vs JD500/1, RD1000/1 and XDM1000/1
The JD500/1 (₹35,990 MRP) makes 250 W at 4 Ω or 500 W at 2 Ω on a 50 A fuse, and costs less than half as much. For one subwoofer rated 250–500 W it is the better buy.
The RD1000/1 (₹94,990) has identical ratings at both voltages and the same 80 A fuse. Our listing shows what the extra ₹20,000 buys: buffered pass-through preamp outputs and turn-on by remote wire, signal sensing or DC offset, in a longer 372 x 177 mm chassis. Neither feature appears in the JD1000/1 specifications we have, so choose the RD only if you need them.
The marine-grade XDM1000/1 (₹1,29,990) also reaches 1,000 W at 2 Ω and, per our listing, adds a defeatable 30 Hz infrasonic filter and a corrosion-resistant housing suited to car and marine use.
For one amplifier running everything, the JD700/5 (₹69,990) pairs four 75 W channels with a subwoofer channel rated at 180 W into 4 Ω or 300 W into 2 Ω. For a bigger bass system, combine the JD1000/1 with the four-channel JD400/4; both are 190 mm deep and 53 mm tall, so they sit neatly side by side.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy the JD1000/1 if your subwoofer is rated 600 W or more, you run JL's 3 Ω 12W7AE-3, or you want to drive a pair of 500 W single-coil subs at 2 Ω, and your car's battery and charging system are healthy.
Look elsewhere if your sub is a 300 W driver such as the 10W0v3-4, where the JD500/1 fits better at half the price. It's also the wrong buy if you want built-in subsonic filtering for a ported box, or if your car already struggles with voltage at idle.
Installation notes for Indian cars
At 53 mm tall, the amplifier may fit under a front seat in some SUVs, but seat rails, airbag connectors and AC ducts vary, so measure first. Leave open air above the heatsink: Class D runs much cooler than Class AB, yet 1,000 W in a boot that bakes in May sunshine still makes real heat.
Set the gain with a test tone and the clipping ring, starting with the bass EQ at zero, and plan a switched 12 V turn-on feed if your head unit lacks a remote output. Run power and signal cables down opposite sides of the car, grommet every pass through metal, and tie everything down against rough roads. Price and where to buy
In the 2026 Indian catalogue this amplifier appears as the JD1000/1D, at an MRP of ₹74,990; the badge on the unit, like JL's own documentation, reads JD1000/1. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current price on our JL Audio JD1000/1 product page. Every unit we sell is a genuine JL Audio product, distributed in India by Supreme Audiotek Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi.

The bottom line
The JD1000/1 is the JD monoblock for systems where the subwoofer is the main event: 600 W for a 4 Ω driver, 800 W for the 3 Ω 12W7AE or 1,000 W shared by two subs. It asks a lot of the car's electrics, but it matches the RD1000/1's rated power for ₹20,000 less. Wire the car properly and it is a strong buy.
JL Audio JD1000/1 FAQ
What subwoofer should I pair with the JL Audio JD1000/1?
Choose drivers that can use 600 W or more. Good JL matches are the 600 W, 4 Ω 13TW5v2-4, the 3 Ω 12W7AE-3, which receives 800 W, or two 500 W 12W3v3-4 subwoofers wired in parallel to 2 Ω.
How much power does the JD1000/1 lose at low voltage?
JL rates it at 500 W into 4 Ω, 650 W into 3 Ω and 800 W into 2 Ω at 12.5 V, against 600 W, 800 W and 1,000 W at 14.4 V. Expect figures nearer the lower set when the car's voltage sags, as it can at idle with the AC running.
Is the JL Audio JD1000/1 better value than the RD1000/1?
On power, yes: JL rates both identically at 14.4 V and 12.5 V, and the JD1000/1 costs ₹20,000 less at MRP. The RD1000/1 adds buffered pass-through outputs and signal-sensing or DC-offset turn-on, which some installs need.
