Recoil LW12S4 Review: A 12-Inch L-3 Sub Rated at 150 W RMS and 300 W Peak

5 min read

The Recoil LW12S4 is a 12-inch single 4-ohm subwoofer from Recoil's L-3 Series. Recoil rates it at 150 W RMS and 300 W peak, with one 1.96 in (49.5 mm) voice coil. The India MRP is ₹9,000, against ₹50,000 for the 12-inch SW12D2. It suits a buyer who wants a 12-inch driver for a modest amplifier, and the listing is on our Recoil LW12S4 product page.

Recoil LW12S4 12-inch single 4-ohm subwoofer

Key takeaways

  • Recoil prints 150 W as RMS and 300 W as peak. The 300W in our product name is the peak figure, so size the amplifier from 150 W RMS.

  • One 4-ohm voice coil means one load to plan for. Recoil's DII700.4 amplifier prints 95 W RMS per channel at 4 ohm and 300 W RMS bridged.

  • Neither Recoil's pages nor our listing give a mounting depth, cutout or box volume for this driver.

  • We found no independent owner reviews in October 2026, so every performance figure here is Recoil's own claim.

Figures come from Recoil's LW12S4 page and the Recoil Audio USA page. The USA page prints the voice coil as 1.96 inch and 38.5 mm, which do not match each other. We use the 49.5 mm that recoilaudio.com and our listing give.

What 150 W RMS asks of the amplifier

A single 4-ohm coil keeps the maths simple: the load is 4 ohm, and you want clean power close to 150 W RMS at that load. Recoil says the motor is a vented design meant to manage heat, but it gives no test data. Our guide to figuring out the need for an amplifier covers the basics.

One amplifier with clearly labelled RMS figures is Recoil's DII700.4. Its Recoil page prints 4 x 95 W RMS at 4 ohm, 4 x 150 W RMS at 2 ohm and 2 x 300 W RMS bridged at 4 ohm, all at 14.4 V. One channel into the LW12S4 gives 95 W RMS, 55 W under the sub's rating. A bridged pair gives 300 W RMS, double the rating, so the gain needs care. The 2 ohm line does not apply to a 4-ohm sub. The amplifier's MRP is ₹32,000, against ₹9,000 for the sub.

Sealed, ported and boot space

The USA page says the woofer suits sealed or ported enclosures and is optimised for both, but it gives no volume for either. It also lists no mounting depth, cutout or Thiele-Small parameters, and neither does our listing. Without those, a ready-made box is a gamble, so work from the driver itself. VA3 Car Studio builds custom subwoofer enclosures if you want a box made for the space you have.

What owners and reviewers say about the Recoil LW12S4

When we checked in October 2026 we found no independent owner reviews or test results for the LW12S4. Recoil's own page says there are no reviews yet, and the Recoil Audio USA page shows no ratings. Both are the maker's promotional pages. If you own one, tell us in the comments which amplifier, box and car you use it with.

LW12S4 vs LW8S4, RW12D4 and SW12D2

The Recoil LW8S4 is the 8-inch sibling in the same L-3 Series, rated 80 W RMS and 160 W peak at ₹6,500 MRP. The Recoil RW12D4 is a 12-inch Echo-series driver with dual 4-ohm coils, rated 300 W RMS and 600 W peak. That is double the LW12S4's RMS rating at an MRP of ₹12,000, which is ₹3,000 higher.

The Recoil SW12D2 sits far higher, at 1,200 W RMS and ₹50,000 MRP, eight times the LW12S4's RMS rating. Our listings give the SW12D2 a 192 mm mounting depth and the RW12D4 a 130 mm one, a figure the LW12S4 lacks.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the LW12S4 if you want a 12-inch driver for a modest amplifier, you are happy to build or buy a box without a published volume, and you accept that its ratings have no independent test behind them that we found.

Look elsewhere if you need a published depth and cutout to plan a tight install, or want a higher RMS rating than 150 W. Skip it too if you need owner reviews before you spend.

Installation notes for Indian cars

A 150 W RMS driver still needs a fused power feed, a solid ground and a braced box. Sound damping in the boot helps with rattles, and our guide to applying sound damping covers it. Leave air around the amplifier through an Indian summer, and fix the box down against speed breakers. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation.

Price and where to buy

The LW12S4 has an India MRP of ₹9,000. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current offer on the LW12S4 product page. Our listing describes it as a genuine Recoil product.

Recoil's published warranty terms give one year to the original purchaser and say a blown or burned voice coil is not a manufacturing defect. They say nothing about coverage outside the USA, so confirm India terms with Recoil or its distributor before you buy.

The bottom line

The LW12S4 is a 12-inch driver with one 4-ohm coil and a 150 W RMS rating from Recoil, at an MRP of ₹9,000. The missing depth, cutout and box volume are the real gaps, so settle the enclosure first and match the amplifier to 150 W RMS at 4 ohm.

Recoil LW12S4 FAQ

Is the Recoil LW12S4 a 150 W or a 300 W subwoofer?

Recoil rates it at 150 W RMS and 300 W peak. The 300W in our product name is the peak figure, so match the amplifier to 150 W RMS at 4 ohm.

Can the LW12S4 go in a sealed or ported box?

Recoil's USA page says it suits either and is optimised for both, but gives no volume for either. VA3 Car Studio builds custom subwoofer enclosures, so a box can be made for your space.

What amplifier suits the LW12S4?

Look for a labelled RMS output near 150 W at 4 ohm. Recoil's DII700.4 prints 95 W RMS per channel at 4 ohm and 300 W RMS bridged, so one channel is under the rating and a bridged pair is double it.

How deep is the LW12S4?

Neither Recoil's pages nor our listing give a mounting depth or cutout for it, so we cannot quote them. Measure the driver before you commit to a box or a tight boot.
