Recoil RW12D4 Review: A 12-Inch Echo Sub Rated at 300 W RMS and 600 W Peak
The Recoil RW12D4 is a 12-inch dual 4-ohm subwoofer from Recoil's Echo Series, rated by Recoil at 300 W RMS and 600 W peak. The India MRP is ₹12,000. Our listing gives a 130 mm mounting depth and a 278 mm cutout, and the Recoil Audio USA page adds Thiele-Small parameters. It suits a buyer who plans an amplifier in the 300 W RMS class, and the listing is on our Recoil RW12D4 product page.

Key takeaways
Recoil prints 300 W as RMS and 600 W as peak. The 600W in our product name is the peak figure, so size the amplifier from 300 W RMS.
Neither wiring gives 4 ohm. The Recoil Audio USA page says the dual 4-ohm coils wire to a 2-ohm or 8-ohm final load, so check an amplifier's RMS rating at that load.
Our listing gives a 130 mm mounting depth and a 278 mm cutout, and the USA page gives Fs 33 Hz, Qts 0.66 and Vas 60.6 L.
Recoil's two sites disagree on the surround, voice coil and cone materials, and we found no independent owner reviews in October 2026.

Figures come from Recoil's RW12D4 page, the Recoil Audio USA page and our store listing. The rows marked USA page come from that page alone.
Where Recoil's two sites disagree
The two Recoil pages describe the materials differently, and our listing agrees with recoilaudio.com. The table leaves these rows out for that reason.
Surround: NBR rubber on recoilaudio.com and in our listing, a high-roll foam surround in the USA page text.
Voice coil: 4-layer black aluminium on recoilaudio.com and in our listing, ASV in the USA spec list and copper in its text.
Cone: pressed paper on recoilaudio.com and in our listing, fibre paper in the USA spec list and pressed pulp with cotton fibres in its text.
Magnet weight: the USA spec list prints 112 oz with 40 oz in brackets, while its bullets say a 40 oz single-slug ferrite motor.
We cannot tell from the pages which version is right, so ask Recoil or its distributor to confirm any material that matters to you.
Wiring the coils and choosing an amplifier
The Recoil Audio USA page says the dual 4-ohm voice coil wires to a 2-ohm or 8-ohm final impedance. By ordinary arithmetic, parallel wiring gives 2 ohm and series wiring gives 8 ohm. Neither gives 4 ohm, so an amplifier's 4-ohm figure does not apply. Look for its RMS rating at the load you wire, and 2-ohm stability for parallel.
For scale, Recoil's DII3300.1 mono amplifier is far bigger than this sub needs. Its Recoil page prints 1,000 W RMS at 4 ohm and 2,000 W RMS at 2 ohm, with no test voltage. At 2 ohm that is 1,700 W above the sub's 300 W RMS rating, and its ₹45,000 MRP is nearly four times the sub's. Choose an amplifier whose labelled RMS output at your wired load is close to 300 W. Our guide to figuring out the need for an amplifier covers the basics.
Box volume, depth and cutout
The USA page says the RW12D4 suits both ported and sealed enclosures, but it gives no volume for either. It lists Fs 33 Hz, Qts 0.66, Qes 0.78, Qms 4.43, Xmax 7.5 mm and Vas 60.6 L (2.14 cubic feet). Vas describes the driver's suspension, not a box size, so do not read it as a recommended volume.
The depth, cutout and diameter figures are in the table. A 12-inch box takes real boot space, so measure the boot opening as well as the room inside. VA3 Car Studio builds custom subwoofer enclosures if you want a box made for the space you have.
What owners and reviewers say about the Recoil RW12D4
When we checked in October 2026 we found no independent owner reviews or test results for the RW12D4. Recoil's own page says there are no reviews yet, and the USA page shows none. The USA page calls it a daily driver that emphasises efficiency and long-term reliability, which is Recoil's description with no test data. If you own one, tell us in the comments which amplifier, wiring and box you use it with.
RW12D4 vs RW10D4, LW12S4 and SW12D2
The Recoil RW10D4 is the 10-inch Echo Series sibling, rated 250 W RMS and 500 W peak at ₹10,000 MRP. The RW12D4 adds 50 W of RMS rating and a larger cone for ₹2,000 more. Our listings give mounting depths of 130 mm for the RW12D4 and 121 mm for the RW10D4.
The L-3 Recoil LW12S4 is a 12-inch single 4-ohm driver rated 150 W RMS and 300 W peak at ₹9,000 MRP. The RW12D4 has twice the RMS rating for ₹3,000 more. The Recoil pages we read give no depth, cutout or Thiele-Small figures for the LW12S4.
The Recoil SW12D2 is rated 1,200 W RMS, four times the RW12D4's rating, at ₹50,000 MRP, which is ₹38,000 more.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy the RW12D4 if you want a 12-inch driver with listed depth, cutout and Thiele-Small figures, you are happy to wire dual coils to 2 or 8 ohm, and you accept inconsistent material descriptions and no independent test that we found.
Look elsewhere if you want a rating well above 300 W RMS, or you need every build detail to be consistent before you spend. Skip it too if you need owner reviews first.
Installation notes for Indian cars
Wire both coils with matching leads and check polarity before you power up. Fuse the power cable close to the battery, follow the amplifier's manual for cable gauge and ground point, and leave air around the amplifier through an Indian summer. Bolt the box down against speed breakers, and read our guide to applying sound damping against boot-panel rattles. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation.
Price and where to buy
The RW12D4 has an India MRP of ₹12,000. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current offer on the RW12D4 product page. Our listing describes it as a genuine Recoil product.
Recoil's published warranty terms give one year to the original purchaser and say a blown or burned voice coil is not a manufacturing defect. They say nothing about coverage outside the USA, so confirm India terms with Recoil or its distributor before you buy.
The bottom line
The RW12D4 is a 12-inch dual 4-ohm driver with a stated 300 W RMS rating at ₹12,000 MRP. We found more box data for it than for the single-coil LW12S4, but Recoil's two sites disagree on its materials and we found no independent test. Choose the wiring and amplifier together, remembering the load will be 2 ohm or 8 ohm, then measure the boot.
Recoil RW12D4 FAQ
Is the Recoil RW12D4 a 300 W or a 600 W subwoofer?
Recoil rates it at 300 W RMS and 600 W peak, and the USA table labels the 600 W figure MAX. The 600W in our product name is that peak figure, so size the amplifier from 300 W RMS.
What impedance is the RW12D4 when wired?
The USA page says the dual 4-ohm coils wire to a 2-ohm or 8-ohm final load. By ordinary arithmetic that is parallel for 2 ohm and series for 8 ohm. Neither wiring gives 4 ohm.
How much space does the RW12D4 need?
Our listing gives a 130 mm mounting depth, a 148 mm overall depth and a 278 mm cutout. The USA page gives 130.5 mm, 148.5 mm, 278 mm and a 306.2 mm overall diameter.
Does the RW12D4 have an NBR or a foam surround?
Recoil's pages disagree. The recoilaudio.com page and our listing say NBR rubber, while the USA page text says a high-roll foam surround. Ask Recoil or its distributor to confirm before you buy.
