Recoil RL880.4 Review: Compact Four-Channel Amp With Speaker-Level Inputs

6 min read

The Recoil RL880.4 is a compact full-range Class D four-channel amplifier from Recoil's L-3 series, listed at 220 W x 4 at 2 ohm and 140 W x 4 at 4 ohm (14.4 V), with 380 W x 2 bridged at 4 ohm. Recoil's main-site page puts RMS on the 880 W figure in its title and lists those figures after it, while its US store page gives them with no label, so we attribute the label rather than assume it. The Indian MRP is ₹18,000, equal to the RL680.1, ₹1,000 above the RL680.4 and ₹12,000 below the RL1200.4. Its listed RCA and speaker-level inputs make it a candidate for a factory-stereo upgrade. The full listing is on our product page for the RL880.4.

Recoil RL880.4 L-3 Series compact 4-channel amplifier

Key takeaways

  • Listed output is 220 W x 4 at 2 ohm, 140 W x 4 at 4 ohm (14.4 V) and 380 W x 2 bridged at 4 ohm. At 4 ohm the four channels add up to 560 W, not the 880 W in the title.

  • Our listing's spec table labels the figures RMS. Recoil's main-site page puts RMS on its 880 W figure and lists them after it, while its US store page gives the same figures with no label.

  • Both RCA and speaker-level inputs are listed, with HPF, LPF or full-range settings from 30 to 300 Hz and a 75 °C overheat cut-off.

  • Fuse rating, operating voltage and weight are not listed, and we found no owner or reviewer write-ups.

The figures come from our store listing. The output figures match Recoil's main-site RL880.4 page and its US store page, both of which are promotional copy. The main-site page gives no supply voltage and no crossover range.

Is the RL880.4 rated in RMS?

It depends which Recoil page you read. The main site titles it 880W RMS Power (2x380W Bridged) and lists 4x140W at 4 ohm, 4x220W at 2 ohm and 2x380W bridged at 4 ohm. Our listing repeats those figures in a row headed RMS power. Recoil's US store page shows the same numbers and no label. The main-site page attaches RMS to the 880W figure, in its title and again in its first feature bullet, and does not repeat the word beside the figures that follow, so we pass the label on only as far as that page goes.

The 880 W in the title is the 2 ohm total, four channels at 220 W. Most car speakers are 4 ohm, and there the listing gives 140 W x 4, a combined 560 W. Plan around the load your speakers present.

Speaker-level inputs for factory head units

Many factory head units, touchscreens included, have no RCA outputs. This amplifier lists both RCA and speaker-level inputs, so a factory unit's speaker wires can feed it directly, without a line output converter. The listing does not say how the amplifier turns on from a factory signal, so settle the remote or turn-on arrangement before you start.

Our listing gives the HPF, LPF and full-range settings as adjustable from 30 to 300 Hz, and Recoil's main-site page describes them as independent per channel. Whether one pair can be bridged while the other stays stereo is not listed.

Size, heat and the 75 °C cut-off

Recoil's main-site page pitches it for installs where space is limited, which is promotional wording. At about 101 x 125 x 51 mm it is small, but measure the space first. The listing gives a 75 °C overheat cut-off, a figure worth respecting in Indian summers. A car parked in the sun starts the drive with a hot boot and cabin, so give the amplifier air and a rigid mount, not carpet, luggage or a sealed panel.

What owners and reviewers say about the Recoil RL880.4

When we checked in October 2026, we found no owner or reviewer write-ups we could read for the RL880.4. Neither Recoil's main-site page nor its US store page shows any reviews, so there is nothing from the maker to quote beyond promotional copy. If you already run one, we would like to hear how it behaves.

Compared with the RL680.4 and RL1200.4

The Recoil RL680.4 (₹17,000 MRP) lists 95 W x 4 at 4 ohm, 170 W x 4 at 2 ohm and 250 W x 2 bridged, so the RL880.4 lists 45 W, 50 W and 130 W more for ₹1,000 more at MRP. The RL680.4 listing adds a 35 A fuse rating, a 9 to 16 V operating range and 750 mA idle current that the RL880.4 listing lacks, but gives a low-level input range only. Its listing also carries no RMS label.

The Recoil RL1200.4 (₹30,000 MRP) lists 300 W x 4 at 2 ohm and 520 W x 2 bridged, with nothing per channel at 4 ohm. The Recoil RL1100.5 (₹28,000 MRP) adds a fifth channel for a subwoofer. The comparison is of listed numbers, which carry different labels across these pages.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the RL880.4 if you are upgrading a factory system, want four channels with speaker-level inputs, and want per-channel output stated at 4 ohm as well as 2 ohm. Our guide to the need for an amplifier in car sound systems covers the basics.

Look elsewhere if you need a published fuse rating and operating voltage, which the RL680.4 and RL680.1 give, more output at 2 ohm, which the RL1200.4 lists, or a dedicated subwoofer channel.

Installation notes for Indian cars

If you tap the factory speaker wires, check the wire gauge and the splice quality, because thin factory wire and loose joints can be weak points. Ground the amplifier to bare metal and fuse the power cable close to the battery. If your speakers need baffles or pods to fit the door, VA3 Car Studio can build them, and we offer professional installation in Ghaziabad. Damping the doors helps; see our guide to applying sound damping in a car.

Recoil RL880.4 price in India and where to buy

The RL880.4 carries an MRP of ₹18,000. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current offer on the RL880.4 product page. Our listing describes it as a genuine Recoil product and says Recoil's manufacturer warranty applies where Recoil offers one. Recoil's warranty page is a general statement, headed as a speaker warranty, so confirm the India terms with the maker before you order.

Recoil RL880.4 - another view

The bottom line

The RL880.4 is a small four-channel amplifier, and the only one of the L3 four-channel amplifiers we list whose listing names speaker-level inputs, with output stated at both 2 ohm and 4 ohm. Its gaps are the fuse rating, operating voltage and weight, and a labelling split between Recoil's own pages. Size the system from the 4 ohm figures, not the 880 W in the title.

Recoil RL880.4 FAQ

What power does the Recoil RL880.4 deliver?

Our listing gives 220 W x 4 at 2 ohm, 140 W x 4 at 4 ohm (14.4 V) and 380 W x 2 bridged at 4 ohm. Our spec table calls these RMS, and Recoil's main-site page puts RMS on its 880 W figure and lists these after it; Recoil's US store page does not label them.

Does the RL880.4 have speaker-level inputs?

Yes. Our listing and Recoil's main-site page both list RCA and speaker-level inputs, so it can take a signal from a factory head unit's speaker wires.

Can the RL880.4 be bridged?

Yes. The listing gives 380 W x 2 bridged at 4 ohm. It does not say whether one pair can be bridged while the other stays stereo, so check that before planning a mixed layout.
