Recoil PW65D4 Review: 6.5-Inch Subwoofer and Its Conflicting 200 W and 350 W RMS Ratings
The Recoil PW65D4 is a 6.5-inch dual 4-ohm subwoofer from Recoil's Echo Pro range, and its power rating depends on which Recoil page you read. Recoil's own site and our listing say 200 W RMS and 400 W peak, while Recoil Audio USA says 350 W RMS and 700 W max. Its Indian MRP is ₹11,000. This review sets the two sets of figures side by side and shows how to size an amplifier while they disagree. You can see it on our Recoil PW65D4 product page.

Quick summary
Recoil's own page and our listing give 200 W RMS. Recoil Audio USA gives 350 W RMS. We cannot tell which is right.
The same two sources also differ on sensitivity, magnet weight and frequency response.
Until Recoil settles it, treat 200 W RMS as the limit when setting the gain.
The mounting dimensions and Thiele/Small figures appear only on the US page, so measure the driver before cutting a baffle.
No owner reviews or independent tests turned up in October 2026.

Two sets of figures for one subwoofer
Recoil's own page labels 200 Watts as RMS and 400 Watts as Peak, and our listing carries the same numbers. Recoil Audio USA labels 350 Watts as RMS Power Handling and 700 Watts as MAX.
Figure | Recoil's own page and our listing | Recoil Audio USA |
|---|---|---|
RMS power | 200 W | 350 W |
Peak or max power | 400 W (peak) | 700 W (labelled MAX) |
Sensitivity | 83 dB | 79.6 dB |
Magnet | 34 oz ferrite | 45 oz ferrite |
Frequency response | 50 Hz – 500 Hz | 42 Hz (a bullet says 42 Hz to 800 Hz) |

Overall diameter | Not stated | 172 mm (6.77 in) |
These are not rounding differences. Neither page says why they differ, so we cannot tell which one describes the driver you would receive.
Sizing an amplifier while the ratings disagree
Take the lower figure as the limit. Setting the gain for 200 W RMS protects the driver if Recoil's own page is right and gives up only some headroom if Recoil Audio USA is right. Recoil's warranty terms, written for the US, say blown or burned voice coils are not manufacturing defects, so caution costs less than a burned coil.
The US page says the two 4-ohm coils wire to 2 ohm or 8 ohm, and the amplifiers below list nothing at 8 ohm. The Zapco ST-1B (₹15,990 MRP) lists 300 W at 2 ohm, with Zapco giving watts and no RMS label, so it is already above the lower reading and needs a low gain setting. The Steg QM500.1 (₹39,990 MRP) lists 350 W RMS at 2 ohm over 11 – 14.4 V, which matches the higher reading and sits well above the lower one.
Box volume and the unconfirmed dimensions
Recoil publishes no enclosure volume or type. The US page gives a 107 mm mounting depth, a 149 mm cut-out and a 172 mm overall diameter, but it is also the page that disagrees with Recoil's own on power, sensitivity and magnet, so treat those as provisional and measure the driver.
The Vas of 4.7 L is lower than the 6.7 L of the Recoil PWS8D4 and the 12.4 L of the Recoil PW8D4, and the Qts of 0.82 is higher than their 0.61 and 0.58. As a rule of thumb, both point towards a small sealed box, though that is not a Recoil recommendation. VA3 Car Studio builds custom subwoofer enclosures.
The PW65D4 beside the JL Audio 6W3v3-4
A useful 6.5-inch comparison is the JL Audio 6W3v3-4, a single 4-ohm driver at ₹35,990 MRP. JL publishes one power figure, 150 W RMS, an Xmax of 8.89 mm, a 108 mm mounting depth and a 140 mm mounting hole. It also gives a recommended sealed enclosure of 4.2 litres for a driver with a Vas of 5.13 L. That box belongs to JL's driver, not to the Recoil, but it shows the kind of documentation the PW65D4 lacks.
What owners and reviewers say about the Recoil PW65D4
We found no owner reviews or independent tests when we looked in October 2026. Recoil's own page shows Reviews (0), and Recoil Audio USA's page shows no reviews or rating. DIYMobileAudio and Sonic Electronix search pages returned errors, Amazon blocks automated access and a CarAudioForum search came back empty. An owner could settle the rating question: if you run a PW65D4, leave a comment with the RMS figure printed on your driver or box.
Who should buy the PW65D4, and who shouldn't
Buy it if you need a 6.5-inch driver for a small sealed box at a low MRP, will set the gain against the lower rating, and accept that Recoil's pages disagree.
Look elsewhere if you need one firm power figure and published enclosure advice, which the JL Audio 6W3v3-4 offers at a much higher MRP. Also look elsewhere if you are counting on 350 W RMS, since only one Recoil page says so.
Installation notes for Indian cars
Set the gain with a test tone and a multimeter against the lower 200 W RMS figure, and enable the subsonic filter if the amplifier has one. Mount the driver in a rigid box, fuse the power cable near the battery, and keep the amplifier clear of any place in the boot where water collects in the monsoon. Damping the panels near a small box helps stop rattles; our sound damping guide explains how. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation.
Price and where to buy
The PW65D4 has an India MRP of ₹11,000. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check today's price on the PW65D4 product page. Recoil's warranty terms are written for the US and state no India terms, so confirm them with Recoil or its distributor before you order.
The bottom line
The PW65D4 is a low-MRP 6.5-inch driver whose own maker gives two answers on power, sensitivity and magnet size. That makes it a sensible buy only for someone who will work to the lower rating and measure the driver before building a box. If an owner can read the true RMS figure off a unit, the question is settled.
Recoil PW65D4 FAQ
Is the Recoil PW65D4 200 W or 350 W RMS?
Recoil's own page and our listing say 200 W RMS and 400 W peak. Recoil Audio USA says 350 W RMS and 700 W max. We cannot tell which is right, so set the gain for the lower figure.
Which amplifier suits the Recoil PW65D4?
Aim at or just above 200 W RMS at 2 ohm and keep the gain low. The Zapco ST-1B lists 300 W at 2 ohm, and the Steg QM500.1 lists 350 W RMS, which matches only the higher reading.
Where do the PW65D4 dimensions come from?
Only from Recoil Audio USA: a 107 mm mounting depth, a 149 mm cut-out and a 172 mm overall diameter. Recoil's own page and our listing give none, so measure the driver before you build a box.
