Recoil SPL12D2 Review: A 12-Inch SPL Sub Listed at 2,500 W RMS and 5,000 W Max
The Recoil SPL12D2 is a 12-inch dual voice coil subwoofer from Recoil's SPL series, listed at 2,500 W RMS and 5,000 W max. The India MRP is ₹1,40,000, against ₹50,000 for the 12-inch SW12D2. Recoil's USA page says it is built for serious competition applications and designed to be pushed hard, with no test data given. It suits a buyer designing a whole system around the driver, not one adding bass to a factory setup. The listing is on our Recoil SPL12D2 product page.

Key takeaways
Recoil's USA table lists 2,500 W RMS and 5,000 W max, and its text calls the 5,000 W figure peak. The 5000W in our product name is that max figure, so size the amplifier from the RMS number.
The USA table gives a nominal dual 1.8 ohm, where our listing says dual 2 ohm. Wired in parallel that is about 0.9 ohm, so check the amplifier's minimum load first.
The Recoil pages we read give no recommended amplifier power or box volume, and the two recoilaudio.com amplifier pages print their power figures with no RMS, max or peak label.
We found no independent reviews or test data in October 2026, so the competition wording is Recoil's own claim.

Figures come from Recoil's USA page for the SPL12D2, which files it under Black Myth Series 666 where our listing says SPL Series. Our listing agrees on power, depth and cutout, and the 11.8 kg magnet figure comes from it.
What Recoil says, and what it leaves out
The USA page says the SPL12D2 is built for serious competition applications, delivering 2500W RMS and 5000W peak, and that it is designed to be pushed hard. The page gives no competition results, test data or recommended amplifier power, so we repeat the wording as Recoil's and add nothing to it.
The sources disagree on construction. Our listing describes a 6K woven carbon-fibre cone, a foam surround and a 540-degree enclosed heatsink. The USA page for this model describes a three-layer carbon-fibre cone and a 2-inch WideRidge surround, and mentions no heatsink. Recoil's page for the related dual 1-ohm SPL12D1 carries the foam-surround and heatsink wording. Because the sources conflict, we leave cone, surround and cooling out of the table.
Wiring, amplifier loads and current
Each coil is a nominal 1.8 ohm on Recoil's table. That makes about 3.6 ohm in series and about 0.9 ohm in parallel, which is arithmetic and not a Recoil wiring instruction. The amplifier pages below print ratings at 1, 2 and 4 ohm, so read the amplifier's manual for its minimum stable load before wiring the coils in parallel.
The Recoil pages we read name no recommended amplifier for this sub. On recoilaudio.com the SPL6500.1 page prints 6,500 W at 1 ohm, 4,000 W at 2 ohm and 2,150 W at 4 ohm, all at 14.4 V, and the DII5000.1 page prints 5,200 W, 3,180 W and 1,800 W. Neither carries an RMS, max or peak label, and Recoil's US store pages for the same amplifiers label only their 1 ohm figure RMS, so we cannot compare them with the sub's 2,500 W RMS. Our SPL6500.1 and DII5000.1 reviews cover each amplifier. Get a labelled RMS figure at your chosen load before you commit.
The same pages list fuse ratings of 400 A and 350 A, which hints at the current involved, and quote power at 14.4 V, which a car may not hold at idle with the AC on. Their MRPs are ₹1,40,000 and ₹60,000, so the sub plus either amplifier is ₹2,80,000 or ₹2,00,000 before cable, battery, box and fitting.
Enclosure and boot space
The USA page lists Thiele-Small parameters, including Fs 33 Hz, Qts 0.34 and Vas 15.4 L, but no recommended enclosure type or volume. The driver is 268 mm deep at the mounting point and 321 mm overall, with a 288 mm cutout and 325 mm overall diameter. With an 11.8 kg magnet, the baffle needs bracing and the box needs bolting down. VA3 Car Studio builds custom subwoofer enclosures.
What owners and reviewers say about the Recoil SPL12D2
When we checked in October 2026 we found no independent owner reviews or test results for the SPL12D2. The USA page has no review content. Recoil's page for the SPL12D1 is a different model, promotional copy with no spec table, test data or reviews. The competition wording therefore rests on Recoil alone. If you run one, tell us in the comments which amplifier, box and car you pair it with.
SPL12D2 vs SPL15D2 and SW12D2
The Recoil SPL15D2 carries the same 2,500 W RMS and 5,000 W max ratings at ₹1,50,000 MRP. On the USA pages it has 707 cm² of cone area against 453 cm², a 31 Hz to 250 Hz range against 37 Hz to 350 Hz, a 297.6 mm mounting depth against 268.2 mm and a 352 mm cutout against 288 mm.
The Recoil SW12D2 is rated 1,200 W RMS at ₹50,000 MRP, ₹90,000 less, and our listing gives it a 192 mm mounting depth, 76 mm less than the SPL12D2.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy the SPL12D2 if you are planning a system around a driver Recoil describes as built for serious competition applications, you can budget for the amplifier, electrical work and a box made for it, and you accept that we found no independent test of its ratings.
Look elsewhere if you want everyday bass, a shallow install or a modest amplifier. The RW12D4 needs far less amplifier and, in our listings, 138 mm less depth. Skip it too if you need owner reviews first. Our guide to figuring out the need for an amplifier covers sizing, and check local noise rules before running a system like this on the road.
Installation notes for Indian cars
Plan the electrical side first: heavy cable, a fuse close to the battery, a solid ground, and a battery and alternator that can supply the amplifier. Boots trap heat through an Indian summer, so leave air around a large amplifier; the SPL6500.1 page lists 724 mm by 235 mm by 67 mm, so measure the space. Bolt the box down against speed breakers. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation.
Price and where to buy
The SPL12D2 has an India MRP of ₹1,40,000. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current offer on the SPL12D2 product page. Our listing describes it as a genuine Recoil product.
Recoil's published warranty terms give one year to the original purchaser and say a blown or burned voice coil is not a manufacturing defect, which matters for a driver Recoil says is designed to be pushed hard. They say nothing about coverage outside the USA, so confirm India terms with Recoil or its distributor before you buy.
The bottom line
The SPL12D2 is a 12-inch driver rated 2,500 W RMS and 5,000 W max, with a nominal 1.8 ohm per coil and a ₹1,40,000 MRP. Its purpose comes from Recoil's own wording, and the amplifier figures that could feed it are not consistently labelled RMS. Settle the amplifier, power supply and box on paper before you order the driver.
Recoil SPL12D2 FAQ
Is the Recoil SPL12D2 a 2,500 W or a 5,000 W subwoofer?
Recoil lists 2,500 W RMS and 5,000 W max, and calls the 5,000 W figure peak. The 5000W in our product name is the max figure, so size the amplifier from the 2,500 W RMS rating.
What impedance is the SPL12D2?
The model name and our listing say dual 2 ohm, while Recoil's USA table lists a nominal dual 1.8 ohm. In parallel that is about 0.9 ohm and in series about 3.6 ohm, so check the amplifier's minimum load.
Does Recoil publish a recommended amplifier or box for the SPL12D2?
No. The Recoil pages we read give no recommended amplifier power or enclosure volume, although the USA page lists Thiele-Small parameters, including a Vas of 15.4 litres.
What warranty covers the SPL12D2?
Recoil's published terms give one year to the original purchaser and exclude blown or burned voice coils as manufacturing defects. They say nothing about coverage outside the USA, so confirm India terms with Recoil or its distributor.
