Recoil SW2.5 Review: 2.5-Inch Single 4-Ohm Mini Driver, 20 W RMS and 80 W Peak
The Recoil SW2.5 is a bare mini subwoofer driver: a 2.76-inch paper-cone unit with a single 4-ohm voice coil, rated 20 W RMS and 80 W peak. It is listed as a driver, not a finished subwoofer, so you supply the enclosure and an amplifier channel. The Indian MRP is ₹5,000. It suits a builder who wants a small driver with published ratings for a custom box and who accepts that its response starts at 146 Hz. The driver is on our SW2.5 product page.

Key takeaways
Both power figures are labelled: 20 W RMS and 80 W peak. Plan the amplifier around the RMS number.
It is a single 4-ohm driver with a 20 mm voice coil, a paper cone and a published range of 146 Hz to 2 kHz.
Sensitivity is listed at 74 dB, lower than the 92 dB listed for the Recoil RBMW-8W woofers, which generally means less sound for each watt.
Recoil publishes Fs and Qts, but its VAS figure has no unit and no enclosure is recommended. We found no owner reviews to summarise.

Figures come from Recoil's SW2.5 page, which is promotional material, and our listing. Recoil's page prints the voice coil as 8 in (20 mm), which looks like a misprint of the inch figure; we use the 20 mm that our listing also shows. Neither source lists the box contents or a recommended enclosure.
A driver, not a finished subwoofer
A bare driver does nothing until it is mounted in an enclosure and fed by an amplifier channel. Neither Recoil's page nor our listing mentions a box, so plan to build or buy one. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad builds custom subwoofer boxes, pods and baffles, and offers DSP tuning once the driver is in the car.
If you would rather not build anything, Recoil also lists a pre-loaded mini subwoofer, the Recoil SS2.5. We cannot say whether it uses this driver, because neither page says so.
Reading Fs, Qts and sensitivity
Fs is the frequency at which a driver resonates freely in air. Recoil lists 146 Hz, and the published frequency response starts at the same 146 Hz, so do not expect this driver to be a source of deep bass. From 146 Hz upwards it is working in the upper bass and lower midrange.
Qts and VAS are the figures an enclosure designer would normally use to work out a box. Recoil lists a Qts of 1.16 and a VAS of 0.1 with no unit, and it recommends no enclosure. The page therefore does not give enough to calculate a volume, and we do not offer one. Sensitivity is listed at 74 dB, lower than the 92 dB on the Recoil RBMW-8W woofers, and a lower number generally means less sound for each watt. Recoil does not say how either figure was measured.
20 W RMS and 80 W peak
Recoil labels both figures on this driver: 20 W RMS and 80 W peak. The RMS number describes what the driver can take continuously, and the peak figure covers short bursts. Do not size an amplifier channel from the 80 W, and use a high-pass filter so the driver is not asked for bass below its range. If you are unsure whether you need a separate amplifier, our guide on the need for an amplifier in car sound systems is a place to start.
What owners and reviewers say about the Recoil SW2.5
When we checked in October 2026, Recoil's SW2.5 page showed no customer reviews. We found no owner thread, retailer review or published test that we could open and read, and several large retailer and video sites would not load for our research. That is a limit on what we can verify, not proof that nobody has used one.
We would rather leave it at that than invent a verdict. If you have built a box around an SW2.5, add a comment and tell other readers what you made and how it sounds.
SW2.5 vs SS2.5 and SW10P
The SS2.5 is the pre-loaded option: a 2.75-inch driver in a ported acrylic case, with an unlabelled 20 W, a 110 Hz to 1.5 kHz range and no impedance, at ₹9,000. The SW2.5 has an MRP of ₹5,000, publishes far more about the driver and leaves the enclosure to you.
If you want real low-bass output, look at a different class of product. The Recoil SW10P is a complete active subwoofer with a 10-inch driver, a passive radiator and a built-in amplifier rated 300 W RMS, at ₹40,000. It is a boxed unit that needs boot space, which the SW2.5 does not.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy it if you are building a small custom enclosure, have an amplifier channel that suits a 4-ohm load, and want a driver whose impedance, power ratings, Fs and Qts are published. A small custom pod or baffle is the sort of project to consider.
Look elsewhere if you want a finished product, deep bass or a loud one. Sensitivity of 74 dB and a 146 Hz starting point do not point that way, and the SS2.5 or a larger Recoil subwoofer is the simpler route.
Installation notes for Indian cars
Seal the enclosure joints, use proper speaker wire, and keep the cone and the box away from places where water can reach them, since Recoil lists a paper cone. Set the amplifier's high-pass filter so the driver is not sent bass it cannot reproduce, and increase the level gradually while listening for strain.
A custom pod or baffle needs an accurate mounting hole, so measure the driver itself before you cut anything. Recoil's page does not publish a cut-out diameter or a mounting depth, and our listing does not either. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation and DSP tuning, and you should confirm the cut-out diameter and mounting depth with the maker before ordering.
Price and where to buy
The Recoil SW2.5 has an MRP of ₹5,000 in our listing. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current offer on the SW2.5 product page. We list it as a genuine Recoil product. Warranty is per Recoil's published terms; confirm India terms with the maker before you order.
The bottom line
The Recoil SW2.5 is a small driver with clear ratings for someone building their own enclosure: labelled RMS and peak ratings, a single 4-ohm voice coil and published Fs and Qts. It is not a finished subwoofer, its response starts at 146 Hz, and there are no owner reviews to lean on, so buy it for the project and not for the bass depth.
Recoil SW2.5 FAQ
Is the Recoil SW2.5 rated in RMS or peak watts?
Both are listed. Recoil gives 20 W RMS and 80 W peak, so plan the amplifier around the 20 W RMS figure and not the peak.
What impedance is the SW2.5?
It is a single 4-ohm driver with a 20 mm voice coil, so it presents a 4-ohm load to the amplifier channel.
Does the SW2.5 come with an enclosure?
It is listed as a driver. Neither Recoil's page nor our listing mentions an enclosure, so plan on supplying one. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad builds custom subwoofer boxes.
