Alpine RS-W10 Review: An 81 mm-Deep 10-Inch Sub, D4 and D2 Wiring Explained
Updated: Oct 6
The Alpine RS-W10 is a 10-inch (25 cm) shallow-mount subwoofer from Alpine's R-Series that needs only 81 mm of mounting depth yet handles 600 W RMS (1,800 W peak) with 20 mm of linear excursion. Our listing covers both versions, the RS-W10D4 with dual 4-ohm voice coils and the RS-W10D2 with dual 2-ohm coils, at an Indian MRP of ₹82,999, the most expensive of the three Alpine 10-inch subwoofer drivers we stock. It is for cars where a conventional sub won't fit: under or behind a seat, or in a thin box against the boot wall. Check today's price on our RS-W10 product page.

Key takeaways
81 mm mounting depth with a 4-inch voice coil and 20 mm Xmax: real subwoofer hardware in a slim package.
Two versions: the D4 suits a single sub on a 2-ohm mono amplifier; the D2 suits a single sub at 4 ohms or a pair wired to 2 ohms.
Alpine's guide gives three sealed boxes, the smallest only about 159 mm deep outside.
Owner reviews are few, but they praise clean, hard-hitting bass from a small space.

Headline figures are Alpine UK's RS-W10D4 ratings, which our listing uses; power range, DC resistance, cutout and box sizes come from Alpine's US R-Series Shallow application guide. Alpine's US documents differ on some figures (the guide lists 25–100 Hz; the launch release, 79 dB for the 10-inch).
How Alpine fits a real sub into 81 mm
The trick is in the motor. Alpine uses a neodymium magnet in what it calls a Gen2 DD Linear magnetic circuit, with a dual magnetic gap that the guide credits with low distortion at high excursion. The guide also lists a motor cooling fin that carries heat away from the voice coil and a vented coil former for airflow. Both help in an Indian summer, when a closed boot bakes and a hard-driven voice coil heats up fast.
The cast aluminium frame takes Alpine's optional RS grille, and the screw terminals are heavy-gauge. With a 4-inch voice coil and 20 mm of one-way excursion, this is a serious sub that happens to be thin.
Sealed boxes: Alpine's three sizes
Alpine UK gives a sealed volume of 13.9 to 29.4 litres. The US guide turns that into three ready-to-build sealed boxes for the 10-inch, with net volumes based on 19 mm MDF:
Small: about 406 x 381 x 159 mm external (16 x 15 x 6.25 in), about 14 litres (0.50 cubic feet) net.
Medium: about 457 x 381 x 178 mm (18 x 15 x 7 in), about 21 litres (0.75 cubic feet) net.
Large: about 508 x 381 x 222 mm (20 x 15 x 8.75 in), about 28 litres (1.00 cubic foot) net.
The small box suits under-seat or behind-seat installs; the large one reaches lowest. Alpine's guide lists sealed boxes only; no ported volumes are listed.
D4 or D2: wiring choices for the RS-W10
Both versions have two voice coils, and Alpine's diagrams show the resulting loads. The right version depends on how many subs you want and which amplifier you use; amplifier figures below are from our listings.
One RS-W10D4: coils in parallel give 2 Ω; in series, 8 Ω. At 2 Ω, the S2-A60M makes 600 W RMS, matching the sub's rating.
One RS-W10D2: coils in series give 4 Ω; in parallel, 1 Ω. At 4 Ω, the S2-A120M makes 600 W RMS, and the R2-A75M makes 500 W, the bottom of Alpine's power range. The 1-ohm option needs an amplifier rated for it.
Two RS-W10D2s: wire each in series and the pair in parallel for 2 Ω total; Alpine's guide lists two 2-ohm dual-coil subs as a 2-ohm load. The S2-A120M or the R2-A150M, each rated at 1,200 W into 2 Ω, then supplies about 600 W per sub.
Two RS-W10D4s: Alpine shows a 4-ohm final load, at which none of the mono amplifiers above reaches 500 W per sub, so, with these amplifiers, the D2 is the better choice for a pair.
What owners and reviewers say about the Alpine RS-W10
Owner feedback is scarce, all from the US and for the D4. This is the picture when we checked in October 2026.
Three reviews on OnlineCarStereo, from March 2024 to October 2025, praise the shallow design for tight installs, clean output at high volume, and bass described as tight and hard-hitting, with solid build quality. One owner fits it in an under-seat truck box and still gets deep bass from the 10-inch cone; another runs it from a JL Audio mono amplifier. The one gripe is practical: one owner, who built their own box, advises searching for the right match. OnlineCarStereo moderates reviews.
A Best Buy marketplace listing showed a 4.95 average from 21 reviews, but the review text wasn't visible to us, so we can't say what owners wrote. Alpine's January 2023 launch release is promotional. We couldn't find readable reviews of the D2 version, or any Indian owner reports.
RS-W10 vs other Alpine 10-inch subs
The R2-W10 costs about half as much at ₹41,999 and handles more power, 750 W RMS, but needs roughly 150 mm of mounting depth against 81 mm here. With boot space, it costs far less for more rated power; without it, the RS-W10 is the one that fits. The S2-W10 (₹24,999, 600 W RMS) is the budget conventional option, and the SS-SB10 (₹79,999) is a ready-loaded shallow enclosure if you'd rather not build a box. For a bigger cone in a similarly slim package, see the 12-inch RS-W12D4.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy the RS-W10 if space is the problem: a CNG cylinder or spare wheel takes the boot floor, you want the boot kept clear, or you are fitting a sub under or behind a seat. Choose the D4 for one sub on a 2-ohm amplifier and the D2 for one sub at 4 ohms or a pair.
Look elsewhere if you have room for a normal box. A conventional Alpine 10-inch costs far less for similar or greater power handling, and one owner of this sub, who built their own box, advises searching for the right match.
Installation notes for Indian cars
Measure the space first, including seat travel if the box goes under or behind a seat, and build to Alpine's sealed dimensions with 19 mm MDF. Seal every joint and bolt the box down firmly; rough roads and speed breakers shake a loose enclosure until it rattles or moves. Run power cable and fusing exactly as your amplifier's manual specifies, and keep the amplifier ventilated, since boots get very hot when parked in the sun.
Set the amplifier's low-pass around 80 Hz and its gain with a test tone, especially with an amplifier that can exceed 600 W. Our guide to choosing an amplifier covers the basics. VA3 Car Studio offers professional installation, including custom enclosures, at our Ghaziabad studio.
Price and where to buy
The RS-W10 carries an MRP of ₹82,999 in our current Indian price list, and the listing covers both the D4 and D2 versions; tell us which you need when ordering. We often sell below MRP, so check the current offer on the RS-W10 product page. Every unit we sell is a genuine Alpine product.

The bottom line
The RS-W10 is an expensive answer to a specific problem: getting proper bass where depth is scarce. With a 4-inch voice coil, 20 mm Xmax and a neodymium motor in 81 mm, it is built to work hard. Pick the version that suits your wiring plan and build one of Alpine's sealed boxes.
Alpine RS-W10 FAQ
Should I buy the D4 or D2 version of the Alpine RS-W10?
For one sub on a mono amplifier that makes its best power at 2 ohms, choose the RS-W10D4 and wire its coils in parallel. For one sub at 4 ohms, or two subs wired to 2 ohms, choose the RS-W10D2.
How big a box does the RS-W10 need?
Alpine UK gives a sealed volume of 13.9 to 29.4 litres. The US guide's smallest recommended sealed box measures about 406 x 381 x 159 mm outside, with about 14 litres (0.50 cubic feet) of net volume.
What amplifier suits the RS-W10?
Alpine's power range is 500 to 600 W RMS. A single RS-W10D4 at 2 ohms pairs with the S2-A60M (600 W at 2 ohms per our listing); a single RS-W10D2 at 4 ohms pairs with the S2-A120M (600 W at 4 ohms).
