Alpine S2-W10 Review: D4 or D2, Wiring, Box Sizes and Amp Pairing for the 10-Inch S2
Updated: Oct 6
The Alpine S2-W10 is a 10-inch (25 cm) subwoofer from Alpine's next-generation S-Series, sold in two versions: the S2-W10D4 with dual 4-ohm voice coils and the S2-W10D2 with dual 2-ohm coils. Both are rated at 600 W RMS and 1,800 W peak, with 15 mm of one-way excursion and a published response of 25 Hz to 215 Hz. Its Indian MRP is ₹24,999 for either version, between the 8-inch S2-W8D4 and 12-inch S2-W12 and well below the R-Series R2-W10. It suits buyers who want proper 10-inch bass from a mid-sized box, and the choice of version comes down to your amplifier. See today's price on our S2-W10 product page.

Key takeaways
Two versions, same power rating: dual 4-ohm (S2-W10D4) wires to 2 or 8 ohms, dual 2-ohm (S2-W10D2) to 1 or 4 ohms.
One D4 at 2 ohms on Alpine's S2-A60M, or one D2 at 4 ohms on the S2-A120M, gets exactly the 600 W RMS rating.
Alpine UK recommends 12.7 to 25.5 litres sealed or 22.6 to 38 litres ported.
US owners describe punchy, hard-hitting bass for the size; one notes slight distortion at maximum volume.

Figures come from Alpine UK's S2-W10D4 and S2-W10D2 pages and Alpine's S2 subwoofer spec sheet. The D2 page repeats the D4's 84.9 dB, but the spec sheet lists 84.5 dB for the D2. Our listing quotes the D4 figures. None of these sources gives a mounting depth or cutout, so ask us to measure before building a tight box.
Driver design
The S2-W10 uses a carbon fibre and polypropylene cone with a polypropylene and ceramic dust cap, driven by a 66 mm voice coil and a 1.8 kg strontium ferrite magnet. Alpine's HAMR (High-Amplitude Multi-Roll) surround is fitted, and Alpine UK quotes 15 mm of one-way excursion. At 84.9 dB the D4 sits between the S2-W8D4 (82.7 dB) and the S2-W12D4 (86.2 dB) for sensitivity.
D4 or D2: wiring choices for each version
Each version has two voice coils that can be wired in parallel or in series. The right version is the one that gives your amplifier its best load.
One S2-W10D4: coils in parallel give 2 ohms. Alpine's S2-A60M is rated at 600 W RMS into 2 ohms, an exact match. Series gives 8 ohms, where most mono amps make much less power.
One S2-W10D2: coils in series give 4 ohms, where the S2-A120M makes 600 W RMS. Coils in parallel give 1 ohm, where the S2-A60M is also rated at 600 W.
Two S2-W10D4s: wire each to 2 ohms and the pair in parallel for 1 ohm; the S2-A120M's 1,200 W RMS into 1 ohm gives each sub 600 W.
Two S2-W10D2s: wire each to 4 ohms and the pair in parallel for 2 ohms, where the S2-A120M or the R2-A150M makes 1,200 W RMS. Don't wire two D2s down to half an ohm; none of these amplifiers is rated for it.
For a single sub, the D4 on an S2-A60M is the simplest pairing, and a 2-ohm load is easier on an amplifier than 1 ohm. Choose the D2 if you already own an amplifier that makes its power at 4 ohms. Set the gain with a test tone, and see our guide on why an amplifier matters.
What owners and reviewers say about the Alpine S2-W10
Feedback is limited and US-only. When we checked in October 2026, OnlineCarStereo showed three reviews of the D4 version from September 2023 to May 2026. One owner runs it in a sealed box under the back seat of a Ford F-150 on about 550 W RMS per sub and calls it smooth and hard-hitting. A Chevrolet Silverado owner likes its punch for the size and plans to buy another, but notes minor distortion at maximum volume, which they say doesn't matter at moderate bass levels. The third says it was as expected, with the best price they found.
The D2 version has one OnlineCarStereo review, from October 2025, praising surprising low-end punch from a compact 10-inch and an easy install. OnlineCarStereo moderates reviews to remove unproven negative comments, so treat all of this as a favourable sample. Alpine's pages are promotional, and we found no independent test.
S2-W10 vs S2-W12, S2-W8D4 and the R-Series
The S2-W12 (₹25,999 MRP) shares the 600 W RMS rating, 66 mm coil and 15 mm excursion, adds cone area and 86.2 dB sensitivity (D4), but wants a bigger box: 17.3 to 34 litres sealed in our listing. The S2-W8D4 (₹20,999 MRP) halves the power rating for smaller boots.
The R-Series R2-W10 (₹41,999 MRP) raises the rating to 750 W RMS and excursion to 20 mm, so it suits a bigger amplifier. On sensitivity the S2-W10 gives nothing away on paper: Alpine UK lists the R2-W10D4 at 82.4 dB. If mounting depth is the problem, the shallow RS-W10 is 81 mm deep but costs ₹82,999.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy the S2-W10 if you want solid 10-inch bass from a box of about 13 to 25 litres sealed, you're pairing it with an S2-A60M or S2-A120M, or you plan two subs on one amplifier.
Look elsewhere if your boot can't spare that much space, where the S2-W8D4 or a shallow sub fits better, or if you're building around a 750 W-plus amplifier, where the R2-W10's higher rating fits better.
Installation notes for Indian cars
A sealed box of 13 to 25 litres is moderate in size, but measure the boot opening and the space behind the rear seat before building one, and secure it so it can't slide on rough roads. The terminals take up to 8 AWG speaker wire, and no grille is included, so protect the cone from luggage. For power, Alpine's manuals call for 4 AWG wire on both the S2-A60M (up to 10 m) and the S2-A120M (up to 4.5 m). A 1,200 W amplifier draws heavily, and voltage can sag at idle with the AC on, so a healthy battery matters. Alpine advises mounting the amplifier where air can circulate. Price and where to buy
The Alpine S2-W10 carries an India MRP of ₹24,999, with effect from 1 June 2026, and our listing covers both the D4 and D2 versions. Tell us which you need when you order on our S2-W10 D4/D2 listing. Every unit we sell is a genuine Alpine product.

The bottom line
This is a well-judged 10-inch: 600 W RMS, generous excursion, modest box requirements and two coil options that make amplifier matching easy. Owner feedback is thin but positive, with one note of strain at full volume. Pick the D4 for one sub on an S2-A60M or two on an S2-A120M, and the D2 for a 4-ohm amplifier.
Alpine S2-W10 FAQ
Should I buy the Alpine S2-W10 in D4 or D2?
Match it to your amplifier. The D4 wires to 2 ohms for one sub, which suits the S2-A60M. The D2 wires to 4 ohms or 1 ohm, which suits an amplifier like the S2-A120M at 4 ohms. For two subs, D4s give 1 ohm and D2s give 2 ohms.
What box does the S2-W10 need?
Alpine UK recommends 12.7 to 25.5 litres for a sealed box and 22.6 to 38 litres for a ported box, for both versions. Sealed saves space and sounds tighter; ported plays louder around its tuning frequency.
How much amplifier power does the S2-W10 need?
It is rated at 600 W RMS. Alpine's S2-A60M delivers exactly that into 2 ohms (a D4) or 1 ohm (a D2), and the S2-A120M delivers it into 4 ohms (a D2 in series).
