Alpine HDZ-65CS Review: Status Component Speakers With Slim-Fit Tweeters
Updated: Oct 6
The Alpine HDZ-65CS is the slim-fit version of Alpine's Status two-way component set: two 170 mm carbon-composite woofers, two slim-fit tweeters just 40 mm across (58 mm with their housings) and a pair of adjustable crossovers, rated at 100 W RMS with 88 dB sensitivity. Its Indian MRP is ₹89,999, the same as the standard HDZ-65C, which shares the woofer but uses a larger 70 mm ring-radiator tweeter. The CS is the set to choose when you want separate tweeters but have only a small factory tweeter position or a slim pillar to put them in. See today's offer on our Alpine HDZ-65CS product page.

Key takeaways
The slim-fit tweeter is 40 mm across (58 mm with housing), and Alpine's US launch release describes the CS as an OEM-fit set with a shallow-mount tweeter.
Same 170 mm woofer, 100 W RMS rating, 88 dB sensitivity and crossover adjustments as the standard HDZ-65C; on the published figures, only the tweeter differs.
The crossovers offer +3, 0 or −3 dB of tweeter level and a 6 or 12 dB/oct woofer slope.
We found no owner reviews of the CS itself; two owners of the standard HDZ-65C are positive.

Slim-fit or standard: what the S changes
The S in HDZ-65CS refers to the slim-fit tweeter. The standard HDZ-65C uses a ring-radiator tweeter 70 mm in diameter with a 25 mm voice coil; the CS uses a slim-fit tweeter 40 mm across, 58 mm in its housing. The other published figures are shared: the 170 mm carbon-composite woofer in its die-cast basket, the 100 W RMS rating, the 88 dB sensitivity, the 142 mm cut-out and 67 mm depth, and the crossover adjustments.
Both sets carry the same ₹89,999 MRP, so the choice comes down to where your tweeters will go. A small tweeter is far easier to fit into a factory tweeter pod, a mirror-triangle panel or a slim A-pillar without cutting or building custom pods. If you're happy to build pods, or your car has room for a bigger tweeter, the standard set is the alternative.
The crossovers and tuning
The supplied crossovers let you set the tweeter level at +3, 0 or −3 dB and choose a 6 or 12 dB/oct slope for the woofer. In a car, the level switch is often the most useful control a passive set offers. A tweeter firing off a raked windscreen can sound bright, so −3 dB tames it, while one mounted low or well off-axis may need +3 dB. The woofer slope changes how firmly the woofer hands over to the tweeter; which works better depends on the door and the tweeter position, so try both.
Mount the crossover boxes somewhere dry. Inside the door is the worst place in a monsoon, and a kick panel or under-dash location is usually safer.
Head unit or amplifier?
Like the HDZ-65 coaxial, the CS quotes 88 dB at 2.83 V, and Alpine recommends up to 100 W RMS per channel. A head unit will make it play, but that recommendation points to an amplifier. The Status HDA-F60, rated at 100 W x 4 into 4 ohms, matches it exactly. With tweeters close to the listener on the pillars, clipping is what damages them, so set gains with a test tone.
What owners and reviewers say about the Alpine HDZ-65CS
When we checked in October 2026, we found no owner reviews of the HDZ-65CS itself, and the OnlineCarStereo CS listing had none posted. The closest feedback covers the standard HDZ-65C, which shares this set's woofer and crossover but not its tweeter. On the OnlineCarStereo HDZ-65C listing, two owners posting in 2024 praised the cone looks, build quality and sound, and said the woofers, tweeters and crossovers deliver; one called the set a bit pricey.
That's feedback on a sibling, not on the slim-fit tweeter that makes the CS different. Alpine's 2022 launch release calls the HDZ-65CS an OEM-fit set and is promotional. If you've fitted the CS, we'd like to hear how the slim tweeters worked in your car.
Alpine HDZ-65CS vs HDZ-65C, HDZ-653S and R2-S652
Against the HDZ-65C, the tweeter is the only difference in the published specifications, as above. Going up to the slim-fit three-way HDZ-653S (₹1,14,999) keeps the slim tweeter idea and adds a 96 mm midrange, which helps vocals but needs a third mounting position.
The R-Series R2-S652 (₹36,999) shares the 100 W RMS rating and die-cast baskets, and its crossovers adjust the level of both the 6.5-inch driver and the tweeter. Its woofers use glass-fibre cones and are quoted from 65 Hz rather than 55 Hz, and its 88 dB sensitivity is measured at 1 W, a different convention from the HDZ-65CS's 2.83 V figure. The HDZ-65CS costs ₹53,000 more; what that buys on paper is the carbon-composite cone, the lower quoted bass limit and the slim-fit tweeter design.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy the HDZ-65CS if you want a Status component set, your car offers only small or factory tweeter positions, and you'll drive it from an amplifier.
Look elsewhere if you have room for a larger tweeter, since the standard HDZ-65C costs the same and is worth comparing; if you want a midrange for vocals, where the HDZ-653S adds one; or if budget matters most, where the R2-S652 shares the power rating for far less.
Installation notes for Indian cars
The woofer needs a 142 mm cut-out and 67 mm of depth, and many factory openings need an adapter ring; check window-glass clearance with the glass fully down. Seal the woofer to the door and damp the outer skin while the panel is off; our sound damping guide explains why it matters.
For the tweeters, measure the factory pod or the pillar space against the 58 mm housing before ordering, and aim them across the cabin towards the opposite seat. Keep crossover wiring short and away from window mechanisms. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation; ask us to check fitment for your car.
Price and where to buy
The Alpine HDZ-65CS has an MRP of ₹89,999 in the Indian price list effective 1 June 2026. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP; check today's offer on the HDZ-65CS product page. Every set we sell is a genuine Alpine product.

The bottom line
The HDZ-65CS gives you the Status woofer, power rating and adjustable crossovers with a tweeter small enough for factory locations. If your car has room for a larger tweeter, the standard HDZ-65C costs the same, and if budget comes first, the R2-S652 is far cheaper. We found no owner feedback on the CS itself, so buy it for its published design and for the fit it offers.
Alpine HDZ-65CS FAQ
What is the difference between the Alpine HDZ-65CS and the HDZ-65C?
On the published specifications, only the tweeter differs. The HDZ-65CS uses a slim-fit tweeter 40 mm across (58 mm with housing), while the HDZ-65C uses a 70 mm ring-radiator tweeter. The woofer, power rating, sensitivity, crossover adjustments and MRP are the same.
Can the HDZ-65CS tweeters go in factory tweeter locations?
That's what the slim-fit design is for, and Alpine's US launch release describes the CS as an OEM-fit set. Factory pods vary, so measure yours against the 58 mm housing or ask us to check before ordering.
Does the HDZ-65CS need an amplifier?
It will play from a head unit, but Alpine recommends up to 100 W RMS per channel. A four-channel amplifier such as the HDA-F60, rated at 100 W x 4 into 4 ohms, suits it well.
