Updated: Oct 6

The Alpine R2-S69 is a 6x9-inch (16 x 24 cm) two-way coaxial speaker from Alpine's next-generation R-Series, rated at 100 W RMS and 300 W peak into 4 Ω, with a glass-fibre reinforced cone and a 25 mm magnesium hard-dome tweeter. Its Indian MRP is ₹29,999, which makes it the most expensive of the three Alpine 6x9 coaxials we stock, above the S2-S69 and the budget SPJ-691C3. It suits cars with factory oval openings or a rear parcel shelf, and buyers who want the extra cone area of a 6x9 and plan to add an amplifier. You can check today's price on our R2-S69 product page.

Alpine R2-S69 6x9-inch two-way coaxial car speaker

Key takeaways

  • A drop-in coaxial: the tweeter and crossover are built into the 6x9 woofer, so there is one speaker per side and nothing extra to mount.

  • 100 W RMS handling with 88 dB sensitivity (Alpine UK; the US manual says 90 dB): it plays on head-unit power but is sized for an amplifier.

  • Mounting depth is 76 mm and the oval cutout 149 x 220 mm, so check door or shelf clearance first.

  • US buyers rate it highly for bass and clarity, but the reviews are few and almost all incentivised.

Figures come from Alpine UK's R2-S69 page and Alpine's US R2-S69 owner's manual. Where they disagree, both are shown; our listing's 65 Hz figure matches Alpine UK.

What changed in the R2 generation

Alpine's US product page, which is promotional, explains the R2 thinking. Earlier R-Series speakers used neodymium magnets; the R2 line moves to a larger ferrite motor, which Alpine says adds midbass. The cone rides on Alpine's High Amplitude Multi-Roll (HAMR) surround, meant to travel further while staying linear, and mounting depth is unchanged from the previous generation.

The glass-fibre reinforced cone sits in a composite basket. Stiff, light cones resist the flexing that blurs vocals at volume, and unlike paper they don't soak up monsoon humidity. The magnesium tweeter's quoted 40 kHz reach is what earns the Hi-Res badge. Nobody hears that octave, but a light, rigid dome bodes well for crisp detail.

Head-unit power or an amplifier?

Sensitivity of 88 to 90 dB is middle of the road. A head unit will drive the R2-S69 cleanly at everyday volumes, and one Best Buy owner said they sounded good before an amplifier went in. But the 100 W RMS rating shows where it is happiest. Head-unit amplifiers run out of clean power early, and it's clipping, not honest wattage, that kills tweeters.

The natural partner is Alpine's R2-A60F, which our listing rates at 100 W RMS per channel into 4 Ω, a direct match. On a tighter budget, the S2-A36F, with four 60 W RMS channels, is still a big step up. Set the gains with a test tone, and if you add a subwoofer, high-pass the 6x9s so they don't waste excursion on the deepest notes.

Where a 6x9 fits in an Indian car

If the factory speakers are round 6.5-inch units, a 6x9 needs a custom door baffle or a rear parcel-shelf mount. If the car already has oval openings, the R2-S69 may need only an adapter ring, and we can check that for you. Either way, measure against the 149 x 220 mm cutout and 76 mm depth.

As a coaxial, its tweeter fires from wherever the woofer sits, so low in a door it images lower than a component set's dash-mounted tweeter. That is why many installs use 6x9 coaxials as rear fill behind a front component set.

What owners and reviewers say about the Alpine R2-S69

Feedback is thin and all from the US. This is what we found when we checked in October 2026.

On Best Buy, all nine reviews give five stars, a 5.0 average. Owners praise strong bass with smooth highs, a clear gain over factory speakers, and a low profile that helped with fitting; one rated them well above a factory Bose system. The caveat: every review carries Best Buy's label saying the reviewer received promo considerations or a sweepstakes entry for writing it, and one is from a Best Buy employee.

The single OnlineCarStereo review, from February 2024, reports clean sound with no distortion when pushed hard and likes the protective grilles. That site moderates reviews, so treat it as a favourable sample. Alpine's own R2-S69 product page is promotional. We found no independent lab test or long-term forum write-up, and none of the reviews we read raised a complaint. If you have fitted a pair, tell us how they work in your car.

R2-S69 vs S2-S69 and R2-S65

The S2-S69 costs ₹10,000 less at MRP (₹19,999) and is closer on paper than that gap suggests. Alpine UK quotes it at 90 dB and 55 Hz – 40 kHz, against 88 dB and 65 Hz – 40 kHz for the R2-S69, and it also has a HAMR surround and a Hi-Res tweeter. The R2-S69 clearly leads on power handling: 100 W RMS and 300 W peak against 85 W and 260 W. On head-unit power the S2-S69 is the sensible saving; with an amplifier, the extra headroom is what you pay for.

The round R2-S65 (₹24,999) shares the R2-S69's Alpine UK ratings for power, sensitivity and response, with a shallower 63 mm depth and a 135 mm cutout, so the 6x9's case is cone area rather than a deeper published figure. For front doors, the R2-S65C component set (₹32,999) lets you raise the tweeters towards the dash, and the SPJ-691C3 3-way 6x9 (₹6,699) is the budget entry point.

Who should buy it, and who shouldn't

Buy the R2-S69 if your car has 6x9 openings or a usable parcel shelf, you want more cone area than a 6.5-inch speaker offers, and you will drive it from an amplifier such as the R2-A60F, where the 100 W RMS rating earns its keep.

Look elsewhere if the speakers will stay on head-unit power, where the cheaper S2-S69 matches it on paper, or if you want a raised front soundstage, which a component set does better. If your car takes only round speakers, the R2-S65 is simpler.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Measure the opening and the depth behind it, including window glass travel in the doors. The baffle or adapter ring must seal fully around the speaker, or the rear wave cancels the front and the bass disappears. Damp the door skin or shelf while it's open; our sound damping guide explains how. Alpine's manual adds one point: disconnect any existing factory tweeter before fitting the R2-S69.

Parcel shelves under sloping rear glass get very hot in a north Indian summer, so mount securely and keep wiring clear of sharp edges. VA3 Car Studio offers professional installation at our Ghaziabad studio.

Price and where to buy

The R2-S69 carries an MRP of ₹29,999 in our current Indian price list. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so see the current offer on the R2-S69 product page. Every pair we sell is a genuine Alpine product.

The bottom line

The R2-S69 is a 6x9 coaxial with a 100 W RMS rating, a magnesium tweeter and Alpine's newer ferrite motor. On paper it doesn't beat the cheaper S2-S69 for sensitivity or bass reach, so its real argument is headroom for an amplifier. Fit it with a matching amp, a sealed baffle and some damping, and it is a tidy way to get more out of a car with oval openings.

Alpine R2-S69 FAQ

Can the Alpine R2-S69 run without an amplifier?

Yes, at everyday volumes. Its sensitivity is 88 dB per Alpine UK (90 dB in the US manual), so a head unit can drive it, but the 100 W RMS rating means an amplifier lets it play louder and cleaner.

What mounting depth and cutout does the R2-S69 need?

Alpine lists a mounting depth of 76 mm and an oval cutout of 149 x 220 mm. Measure your door or parcel shelf, including window glass travel, before ordering, or ask us to check fitment.

Is the R2-S69 a coaxial or a component speaker?

It is a coaxial. The magnesium tweeter and crossover are built into the 6x9 woofer, so it installs as one speaker per side. For separate tweeters in the same family, look at the R2-S65C component set.
