Audison APBMW X4M Review: 4-Inch BMW and Mini Coaxial vs X4E

6 min read

The Audison APBMW X4M is a 100 mm (4 in) coaxial speaker from Audison's Prima range for BMW and Mini, rated at 40 W continuous and 80 W peak into 4 ohm, with a 24 mm Tetolon dome tweeter. Audison says it is designed for BMW-Mini models that do not allow a two-way system at the front, or for upgrading the rear system. The Indian MRP is ₹49,990. It has a near-identical sibling, the X4E, so we also cover how the two differ. See it on our Audison APBMW X4M product page.

Audison APBMW X4M 4-inch coaxial speaker for BMW and Mini

Key takeaways

  • It is a coaxial: the 24 mm dome tweeter works with the 100 mm woofer, and Audison's pages describe no separate crossover.

  • The X4M and X4E carry identical ratings on Audison's pages (4 ohm, 40 W continuous, 80 W peak, 88 dB). The published differences are weight, basket dimensions and some driver parameters.

  • Audison does not explain the M and E suffixes, and its product pages give no car series, models or years, so ask us to check fitment before you order.

  • We found no customer reviews for the X4M when we checked in October 2026.

How the Audison APBMW X4M is built

Audison says the water-repellent pressed-paper cone gives a natural midrange without plastic resonance, and that the 24 mm Tetolon tweeter is built from lightweight, damping materials, with dispersion optimised for OEM placement (Audison cites FEM simulation). The basket and fixing screws are made for the specific car model, though its pages never say which.

A coaxial puts the tweeter on the woofer's axis, so there is no tweeter position to choose and Audison describes no crossover; the trade-off is no separate tweeter mount, which a component kit such as the K4M allows.

Audison APBMW X4M vs X4E: what Audison publishes

The two models share the same ratings, coil sizes, magnet and tweeter on Audison's pages and datasheets, and neither page mentions the other model or explains what M and E stand for. The published differences are weight, basket dimensions and some driver parameters.

Every dimension except D is smaller on the X4M. OnlineCarStereo adds the label Small Basket to its X4M product description, and a search listing for its X4E page reads Large Basket; that fits the figures, but it is a retailer's label and Audison uses neither. Audison does not say which cars take which, so choose by fitment, not by the table, and ask us to check. Our X4E review covers the other model.

Driving it: head unit or amplifier

Audison's pages give no recommended amplifier power. With 88 dB sensitivity and a 40 W continuous rating, the speaker can run from a head unit, and an external amplifier adds clean headroom. If you add one, match its clean output per channel to the 40 W continuous figure rather than the 80 W peak. Our guide to whether you need an amplifier covers the basics. The response starts at 100 Hz, so this is not a bass driver. For deep bass, Audison's APBMW S8 subwoofer replaces a factory under-seat speaker where the car has one.

What owners and reviewers say about the Audison APBMW X4M

We found no customer reviews for the X4M when we checked in October 2026. The OnlineCarStereo X4M page shows none. The sibling X4E's pages at OnlineCarStereo and Audiokauppa (a Finnish retailer) show none either; we count them only as related.

The wider write-up is a BestCarAudio spotlight from September 2021. It is labelled as a sponsored post, so we treat it as promotional, and it has no measured data. It says the range is designed for efficient operation with small to moderately powered amplifiers. The one customer comment we found is an undated review on a UK retailer's MINI door-speaker upgrade kit built from Audison Prima speakers. It calls the kit a big improvement over the base door speakers, even without additional amplification, but the page does not name the Audison model, so it may not be the X4M. If you own one, tell us how it sounds in your car.

Audison APBMW X4M vs K4M and the Morel IP-BMW 42C

The Audison APBMW K4M is the component-kit option: 50 W continuous and 100 W peak, 90 Hz to 23 kHz, a 29 mm tweeter and a crossover with a -3 dB or 0 dB level setting, at the same ₹49,990 MRP. Audison words their use differently: the X coaxials for models that do not allow a two-way system at the front, the K kits for models with factory two-way systems. For some cars, then, the car decides which applies.

Morel's 4-inch BMW coaxial, the IP-BMW 42C, is rated 40 W RMS and 120 W peak at 89 dB with a response from 80 Hz to 22 kHz. Its MRP is ₹39,990, which is ₹10,000 below the Audison. The makers word power differently (Audison continuous, Morel RMS) and make their own fitment claims, so compare fitment before price and ask us to check your car.

Who should buy the Audison APBMW X4M, and who shouldn't

Buy it if your car's speaker position suits a coaxial, you want a basket and connectors matched to the car, and you have confirmed fitment with us.

Look elsewhere if you want a separate tweeter mount (look at the K4M), need bass below 100 Hz, or want a model list on the product page, since Audison's pages and datasheet give none. Retailers abroad publish lists that we have not verified for cars sold in India.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Indian doors see heat, dust and monsoon water, and Audison's general APBMW manual says to keep speakers away from water, excess humidity, dust and dirt, so keep the connectors out of the door's wet path. Damp the door while it is open; our guide to applying sound damping explains how. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation.

Audison also lists a separate APBMW A4E part for BMW models with non-standard fixings. Its page names no models, so ask us whether your car needs anything beyond the supplied basket.

Audison APBMW X4M price and where to buy

The Audison APBMW X4M carries an MRP of ₹49,990, the same as the X4E. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current offer on the product page.

Audison APBMW X4M - another view

The bottom line

The Audison APBMW X4M is a plug-and-play 4-inch coaxial with a car-specific basket, rated 40 W continuous. On Audison's figures it differs from the X4E in weight and basket size, not in ratings. It lacks owner reviews, a model list on Audison's pages and any explanation of the M suffix. Confirm fitment with us first, then choose between this and the K4M by whether your car allows a separate tweeter.

Audison APBMW X4M FAQ

What is the difference between the Audison APBMW X4M and X4E?

Their ratings match on Audison's pages. The X4M weighs 0.4 kg against 0.5 kg, and every dimension on Audison's drawing except D is smaller. Audison does not explain M and E or say which cars take which, so ask us to check fitment.

Does the Audison APBMW X4M need an amplifier?

Audison publishes no amplifier requirement. It is rated 4 ohm, 88 dB and 40 W continuous, so it can run from a head unit, and an amplifier adds clean headroom. Ask us about your setup.

Will the Audison APBMW X4M fit my BMW or Mini?

Audison's pages name only BMW-Mini and say the speaker comes with a basket and fixing screws made for the specific car model, without naming the model. Send us your car's make, model and year and ask us to check fitment.
