Morel IP-BMW 42C Review: The Plug-In BMW Coaxial for Positions Without a Tweeter
The Morel IP-BMW 42C is a 4-inch (100 mm) two-way coaxial from Morel's Integration Performance range, designed to mount in BMW speaker positions on DirectFit adapters and plug into the factory wiring. It is rated at 40 W RMS (120 W maximum), with 89 dB sensitivity at 2.83 V and an 80 Hz – 22 kHz response. Its Indian MRP is ₹39,990, below the Reference-series BMW kits we sell. It suits BMW owners who need a one-piece replacement for a position with no separate tweeter, on factory or modest amplifier power. See today's price on our Morel IP-BMW 42C product page.

Quick summary
A coaxial for BMW positions without a tweeter location, which is the use Morel's own product sheet describes.
40 W RMS and 89 dB at 2.83 V; Morel designs its Performance series for factory amplifiers or modest aftermarket ones.
DirectFit adapters, BMW-specific plugs and installation tools are in the box, so nothing needs cutting.
No customer reviews yet; the only hands-on account we found is a retailer's install story covering a full Morel BMW system.

Figures come from Morel's IP-BMW4C product sheet, which matches our listing line for line. The sheet gives no mounting depth and no list of BMW models.
One speaker, two names, and why it's a coaxial
You will find this speaker under two names. Morel's sheet and its 2023 launch press release call it the IP-BMW4C; our store lists it as the IP-BMW 42C. The figures are identical, so it is the same product.
The coaxial layout is the point. Morel describes it as the answer where the factory provides no tweeter location, and its press release says the compact 0.8-inch tweeter keeps Morel's soft-dome design. With the tweeter in the centre of the woofer, one speaker covers the range from a single opening.
One caution: some overseas retailers, such as Thomas Performance in the UK, describe this coaxial with a 1.1-inch tweeter. Morel's own documents say 0.8 inch (20.3 mm). The 28 mm (1.1-inch) MT100 tweeter belongs to the IP-BMW42 component set.
Factory amplifier or aftermarket power?
Morel's press release says the Performance-series kits are designed to work with factory-installed amplifiers or low-to-moderately powerful aftermarket ones, and our listing calls this coaxial efficient enough to work well on the factory amplifier. With 89 dB at 2.83 V and a 40 W RMS rating, that fits: it doesn't demand much power, and it isn't rated to take a lot.
If you add an amplifier later, keep it modest. Morel's MDSP 6/4A is rated at 25 W RMS x 4 into 4 Ω in our listing and ships with a high-level input harness, so it can take the factory signal and stay inside the coaxial's rating. Our article on why car audio systems need DSP explains what processing adds, and VA3 Car Studio does DSP tuning.
What owners and reviewers say about the Morel IP-BMW 42C
When we checked in October 2026, the listings we could read at Thomas Performance and Celsus ICE in the UK showed no customer reviews for this coaxial, and our searches found no owner threads about it on BMW forums.
The one hands-on account we found is a Crutchfield install story from August 2026. Treat it as retailer content: Crutchfield sells these kits, and the car belongs to one of its employees. The IP-BMW4C went into the rear positions, with the IP-BMW42 component set (see our Morel IP-BMW42 review) in the front doors and two IP-BMWSUB82 subwoofers (our IP-BMWSUB82 review) under the front seats. The owner reported better clarity, more detail and punchier, better-defined bass, but those impressions cover the whole system, not the coaxial alone. The article adds that the speakers used the factory screws and plugged into the existing harnesses.
Morel's 2023 launch press release is promotional, but it states the aim plainly: better clarity and output than the factory speakers, on factory or moderate amplifier power. If you have fitted this coaxial, tell us how it worked in your car.
How it compares: IP-BMW42, IR-BMW 4INT and Awave BW4
Morel's IP-BMW42 product sheet rates the component sibling at 50 W RMS against 40 W here, with the same 120 W maximum, 89 dB and 80 Hz – 22 kHz. The real difference is the separate 28 mm MT100 tweeter, which snaps into a tweeter location. Where a position has one, the component set makes better use of it.
The Morel IR-BMW 4INT is the Reference-series take on the one-driver idea: 80 W RMS, 250 W maximum, 90 dB at the same 2.83 V and 80 Hz – 25 kHz, with a concentric 28 mm Acuflex silk dome, designed for amplifier and DSP upgrades. Its ₹84,990 MRP is more than twice this coaxial's.
The Awave BW4 is a BMW-specific coaxial at ₹14,990 MRP. Our listing rates it at 30 W RMS and 60 W maximum with a 100 Hz – 20 kHz response, so the Morel is rated higher and quotes a wider range on paper. The BW4's 85.9 dB comes without a stated test voltage, so don't compare it directly with Morel's 2.83 V figure.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy it if you are replacing BMW speakers in positions without a tweeter location, you will stay on the factory amplifier or a small one, and you want an install that plugs into the factory wiring and can be reversed. Morel notes that OE-grade connectors suit leased cars.
Look elsewhere if the position has a tweeter location, or you are planning a DSP and a strong amplifier, the kind of system Morel says its Reference kits are for. And don't expect deep bass from a 4-inch driver quoted down to 80 Hz; that is a subwoofer's job.
Installation notes for Indian cars
Morel says its DirectFit adapters fit all modern BMW models and that the mounting hardware and installation tools are included; its press release adds that the three brackets in each BMW kit attach with three screws. Morel names no models or chassis codes, so neither do we: ask us to check fitment for your car.
Plastic trim clips go brittle with age and summer heat, so expect to replace one or two when panels come off. Polypropylene cones cope well with humidity inside a closed door, but any speaker sounds better in a solid, quiet panel, so consider damping while it is open; our sound damping guide covers the method. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation.
Price and where to buy
The Morel IP-BMW 42C has an MRP of ₹39,990. Check today's price and stock on our IP-BMW 42C store page, and tell us your car's model and audio package when you order so we can check fitment.

The bottom line
This coaxial puts a Morel two-way into BMW positions with no room for a separate tweeter, without cutting anything. Its rating and Morel's own description point to factory or modest amplifier power, and on that it is a sensible, reversible upgrade. Where your car has a tweeter location, the IP-BMW42 makes better use of it, and owner feedback on the coaxial itself is still thin.
Morel IP-BMW 42C FAQ
Is the Morel IP-BMW 42C the same speaker as the IP-BMW4C?
Yes. Morel's product sheet and press release use the name IP-BMW4C, and its figures match our IP-BMW 42C listing exactly: a 4-inch two-way coaxial rated at 40 W RMS, 120 W maximum, 89 dB at 2.83 V and 80 Hz to 22 kHz.
Does the IP-BMW 42C need an aftermarket amplifier?
No. Morel says its Performance-series kits are designed to work with factory-installed or low-to-moderately powerful aftermarket amplifiers. If you add one, keep its output within the speaker's 40 W RMS rating per channel.
Which BMW models does it fit?
Morel says its DirectFit adapters fit all modern BMW models, but the product sheet lists no specific models or chassis codes. Ask us to check fitment for your car and its audio package before ordering.
Should I buy the coaxial or the IP-BMW42 component set?
Use the component set wherever your car has a tweeter location, because its separate 28 mm tweeter can be fitted there. Choose the coaxial for positions without one, which is the use Morel describes for it.
