Audison APBX 8 AS2 Review: Active 8-Inch Sealed Sub With Built-In Amp

6 min read

The Audison APBX 8 AS2 is an active 8-inch (200 mm) sealed subwoofer box from Audison's Prima range, with a 250 W RMS Class D amplifier built in and a rating of 250 W continuous and 500 W peak. Audison gives a 158 mm (6.22 in) profile and supplies a remote level control. The Indian MRP is ₹59,990, and it suits buyers who want one self-contained box instead of a separate driver, enclosure and amplifier. See it on our Audison APBX 8 AS2 product page.

Audison APBX 8 AS2 Prima 8-inch active subwoofer box

Key takeaways

  • Amplifier and driver are matched inside the box: 250 W RMS Class D into a 0.4 ohm driver, with no speaker cable to choose.

  • Inputs are RCA or high level on a multi-pole connector, and ART turn-on can follow the remote lead or the signal.

  • Audison's 2S² design allows down-firing for more extension or up-firing for more punch and definition.

  • We found no customer reviews for the 8-inch, and the pages we read give no built-in fuse value.

Figures come from Audison's APBX 8 AS2 page, its 2022 datasheet and our listing. One paragraph on Audison's page says 50 to 200 Hz for the low-pass range; its table and datasheet say 50 to 300 Hz, which we use. Audison does not define the letters on its drawing, so we read 368 x 294 mm as the footprint and 158 mm as the profile. The drawing also carries an unexplained 135 mm figure; Frankie's Auto Electrics lists 135 mm as the height and 158 mm with the feet fitted, so allow for the larger number.

What the built-in amplifier does

The amplifier is Class D with He-Li technology, which Audison describes as high efficiency and low impedance, and the 0.4 ohm driver is matched to it at the factory. Audison also describes DBT, Dynamic Bass Tracking, an input stage that it says watches the signal in real time and anticipates peaks.

The controls sit on the amplifier: the low-pass filter can be bypassed when a processor's dedicated sub output feeds the box, alongside phase, bass boost and a subsonic filter. Keep the ratings apart: 250 W RMS is the amplifier's figure, and 500 W is a peak figure.

Connecting it to a factory or aftermarket stereo

Audison supplies an RCA input and a high-level input on a multi-pole connector for OEM integration. ART, the automatic turn-on, can follow the remote lead, the high-level signal or the audio signal, and the included HRC AP remote adjusts the level from the driver's seat. Whether your car's factory outputs suit that connector depends on the car, so ask us before you order.

Down-firing or up-firing: the 2S² box

Audison's 2S² (2 Sides / 2 Sounds) design lets the box sit either way. Down-firing, on the supplied levelling feet with hook-and-loop inserts, gives more low-frequency extension in Audison's words; up-firing gives more punch and definition.

What owners and reviewers say about the Audison APBX 8 AS2

We found no owner evidence for the 8-inch model when we checked in October 2026. The pages for it at OnlineCarStereo, Sound of Tristate and Frankie's Auto Electrics showed no customer reviews.

The nearest evidence is for the larger sibling. One 2023 buyer on OnlineCarStereo's APBX 10 AS2 page described it as a high-quality, small-profile sub that proved surprisingly powerful once installed in their car. That covers the 10-inch, not this box, and it is a single opinion. A BestCarAudio spotlight on the 10-inch is a sponsored post, so we treat it as promotional; it gives no measured test data. None of the sources we recorded is from an Indian owner. If you own an APBX 8 AS2, tell us how it behaves in your car.

Audison APBX 8 AS2 vs APBX 10 AS2, Hertz MPBX 250 S2 and JL ACS110LG-TW1

Audison's APBX 10 AS2 uses the same filter range, phase, bass boost, subsonic filter and remote, with a 10-inch driver rated 400 W continuous and 800 W peak and a 400 W RMS amplifier. Audison lists its footprint as 440 x 334 mm against 368 x 294 mm here, the same 158 mm profile figure, and 30 A against 18 A at maximum musical power. Our older post on the APBX 10 AS2 covers it.

The Hertz MPBX 250 S2, from Audison's sister brand Hertz (both belong to Elettromedia), has the same ₹59,990 MRP but is a passive box: a 10-inch driver rated 500 W continuous and 1000 W peak at 2 ohm that needs its own amplifier. JL Audio's powered ACS110LG-TW1 is a 10-inch box with a built-in amplifier listed at 400 W at 0.25 ohm, with an MRP of ₹99,990.

Who should buy the Audison APBX 8 AS2, and who shouldn't

Buy it if you want bass from one box with no separate amplifier to match, you have a factory stereo and need a high-level input, or you want to try both firing directions.

Look elsewhere if you want to choose your own amplifier and driver (the Audison APS 10 is a bare driver you box yourself), need more than 250 W RMS, or have nowhere firm, dry and ventilated for the amplifier. See our guide on whether you need an amplifier.

Installation notes for Indian cars

Audison's general APBX and APS manual, which does not name individual models, says to fit an external fuse rated 30% above the amplifier's built-in one, in an insulated holder within 40 cm of the battery positive terminal. The pages we read for this model give no built-in fuse value or cable gauge, so ask us before choosing them. The manual also says the amplifier can reach about 80 degrees Celsius and warns against damp, dust and dirt, which matters in a hot, dusty Indian boot and during the monsoon. Mount it where air can move and water cannot reach.

Audison lists a 10 to 16 V supply range, so check that the battery and alternator can hold it with the AC and headlights on. VA3 Car Studio in Ghaziabad offers professional installation, and DSP tuning if you drive the box from a processor. Damping the boot cuts rattles; see our guide to applying sound damping in a car.

Audison APBX 8 AS2 price and where to buy

The Audison APBX 8 AS2 carries an MRP of ₹59,990. The built-in amplifier is part of that price, and our listing says the HRC AP remote and a metal grille are included. VA3 Car Studio often sells below MRP, so check the current offer on the Audison APBX 8 AS2 product page.

The bottom line

The Audison APBX 8 AS2 is a self-contained 8-inch sub: matched amplifier and driver, level controls, factory-friendly inputs and two firing positions. What it lacks is evidence from owners, and the fuse value is not in the pages we read. If you can give it a cool, dry home and a proper power feed, it is a tidy answer.

Audison APBX 8 AS2 FAQ

Does the Audison APBX 8 AS2 need a separate amplifier?

No. It has a 250 W RMS Class D amplifier built in. You still need a fused power feed, a ground and a signal source; ART can take turn-on from the remote lead, the high-level signal or the audio signal.

Can the Audison APBX 8 AS2 connect to a factory stereo?

Audison provides a high-level input on a multi-pole connector, described as for OEM integration. Whether it suits your car depends on the stereo's outputs, so ask us before you order.

What is the difference between the Audison APBX 8 AS2 and the APBX 10 AS2?

The APBX 8 AS2 has an 8-inch driver rated 250 W continuous and a 250 W RMS amplifier. The APBX 10 AS2 has a 10-inch driver rated 400 W continuous and a 400 W RMS amplifier. Their filter range, phase, bass boost and remote match on Audison's pages.
